Historic first landing of a Boeing 757-200 passenger jet at St Helena Airport, and largest aircraft to date, when the Titan Airways flight touched down on Thu 30 July, 2020.
This special repatriation charter flight from UK brought in 51 passengers, (including 7 from Ascension Island) and returned to the UK next day with 94 passengers.
This video was taken over two days - the arrival on 30 July, then a series of training circuits on the airport the next morning.
Special thanks to St Helena Airport for facilitating the making of this video.

The 757, such beautiful aircraft. Absolutely love flying on these when possible. Almost had one last week (ATL to DTW) but Delta switched the flight to a 767-432 (ER) smokey Joe, still a lot of fun though. Got knocked around pretty good on the ascent, never worried a bit. Great to see Delta maintaining the vast majority of 57's still airworthy and a very respectable number of 67's as well.

This is so heartening to see. Nice video. This is the plane to serve St. Helena. It has twice the payload and twice the passenger capacity as the E 190. It also has much more range. It's fuel consumption per seat mile is only slightly higher that the newest planes. It is old technology with CRT cockpit displays but there should be tons of serviceable parts available from recently retired aircraft. It should go on to Cape Town and back.

@@whatthesaintsdidnext thank you, I am very proud of him and it was his first time landing there so it must’ve been very stressful especially with the windy conditions landing there and considering how big of a plane the 757 is but yet a very capable plane too, Boeing make the best aircraft hands down 🫡 and my dad handles the 757 extremely well, sadly the 757 has now been sold but is now used as a British airforce anti missile system test bed, better than the 757 being scrapped or left in a desert to rot

@@MB.S560 wow, that's so interesting to know where this aircraft is now, thank you. Yes, your dad and all the pilots who land here do a fantastic job. We were on a flight in ourselves just last week and the pilots announced the wind conditions were 50-60km/h just before we landed, but they really nailed the landing first time, it was so impressive and reassuring. We never flew on the Titan flights ourselves, but one of our parents did, out and back, and they had nothing but praise for the pilots and crew. All the best Daniel

Historic indeed 👍 Titan Airways did a brilliant job for the island, keeping us connected to the outside world during the pandemic years. An interesting update: the title of largest aircraft to land at St Helena passed in May this year (2023) to an RAF C17.

Dankie/ Merci Saints for this video. I watch it 2x. I thought it was possible for 3 000m runway. I will be in a cross to Runway 20. Now I see, with St. Helena in the back-round. I will be very very expensive job. Too expensive, BUT not impossible....

Thanks for the comment David. At the end of the day most things like this boil down to funds. In hindsight, a tiny bit more length on the runway would probably have made all the difference and travel from here would have been a lot more affordable. Glad you liked the video. Cheers

@@elliot7753 Not really. It's normal procedure when you want to cool down your landing gear quicker, for example when you're planning on doing quite a few short landings in a row, especially on a hot day. Yes, you'll get performance penalty, and yeah you'll burn quite a bit more fuel, but they're not really going anywhere and overheating brakes are a lot bigger concern here.

It really was, Malti 😊 Once we heard it was coming we were all looking the aircraft type up and there was so much anticipation. When it arrived that first time we were all so impressed with how easily it landed. The Titan Airways 757 kept the island connected throughout the Covid crisis, plus it provided direct flights to UK, so it is very fondly remembered by islanders.

That was a heck of a landing. Previously a B737-800 had quite a struggle for landing. While this landing is much better then previous landing.

The 737 only did one "go around". That is not "quite a struggle for landing". That whole story was blown way out of proportion by the sensational journalists who have no clue about aviation, yet alone these first time flights to airports.

@@556johny556 I agree but landing a 737-800 during tailwind was quite difficult. That's why Comair decided not to fly to saint Helena and Air Link got contract to fly there. Watch Wendover productions video " World's most useful Airport "

It's a much appreciated effort here on the island as well. Moving into 2021 we thankfully remain Covid-free still, with 100 vaccines received on the first charter flight of the year. Looking forward to receiving more as they become available which would allow incoming travel restrictions to be reconsidered. Thanks for the comment Jonathon.

Great vid! I have one question - are they doing the training circuits? I saw the A319 did it too a few months ago - is that some type of certification process for the airport to be able to accept these types on a regular basis or is Titan airways itself planing a more frequent connection to the Island? It would be exciting if there would be more options to fly there!

We still have challenging weather conditions, especially wind, however, the knowledge gathered these past few years and the weather forecasting expertise all now contributes to a smooth and reliable service. Delays, when they do happen, are mostly due to low cloud conditions rather than the wind.
