I definitely like the angrier tones of this version. I adored the final version but prefer this one. It’s sadness laced with so many more emotions - rage, shock, numbness, and feelings of humiliation. It’s such a rich piece and the animation showed it so well. 💕

one of my favorite animatics in general i think some of the visuals and affects are ACTUALLY insane (like 4:24-4:35) also. i know why they went with burn over this.. the one that made it into the musical fits Eliza a lot more (she was always calm) plus (spoilers lol) she forgives him a few songs later so it wouldn't feel right if she were angrier here and then just forgave him so easily. I do wish some of the FANTASTIC lines from this song made it into the musical though (Like "We are your legacy" !!!!) also all the voices here are women who played Eliza! they are all INCREDIBLY talented. beautiful song.

Thank you. Yes. I think Lin wrote the First Burn lyrics with something closer to Angelica's voice in mind than Eliza's. I 100% believe Angelica would have delivered lines like "I can't be trusted around you," implying she's about to throw hands, while I have trouble believing Eliza would say them. They're powerful lyrics, and I'm not surprised so many people nowadays resonate with them more, but the version that made it into the musical reflects Eliza's character far better, which was better for the show as a whole. I see "First Burn" as a - damn good - alternate timeline version of events where Alexander ended up with the other Schuyler sister... and HER reaction to his affair.

I too love both versions! I almost see First Burn and Burn happening in a sequence of events. First Burn being her initial reaction and then Burn being once she had cooled down enough to actually talk to Alexander.

this version fits so much better with Congratulations because of the lines about Jefferson in both but I get how it wouldn't flow as much or tie the story up in such a neat bow so I consider them companion pieces totally outside of Hamilton now

It would be hard to play this type of song on a theater stage since its a melody of like 6 girls, plus it doesn’t fit Eliza’s character, so I see why they cut it but I definitely like this version better.

Did anyone else turn their volume up really high because the video is quiet, and then the “let’s get it!” at the end of the video just blew out their eardrums? Hilarious, but ouch. On a different note this is probably the best reactions I’ve seen to this animatic and song. I’ve seen the video so many times but to watch you experience it for the first time and to see the range of emotions you felt all at once really made me remember why I love this animatic so much. The part that really got me was "I see how you look at my sister". Although Aliza never said anything about it deep down I believe she always knew that Alexander looked at Angelica in a way he did not look at her. Of course Alexander loved Aliza and would not do anything with her sister. Alhough, Aliza knows Alexander loves her, I can not help but believe that she felt a little jealous towards her sister. She just never gave it too much thought or care. Because she knew her sister would never do something like that to her beacouse of their strong sisterly love for each other. But after Alexander cheated on her she just exploded and everything she has been bottling up for years came to the surface. This line proves that Aliza may be a pasifistic character but she knows more than she is letting on. Not to mention a breaking point. No matter how much aggresive she was when he called out all of his mistakes she had every right to lash out on Alexander after what he did.
