What sucks is that Hamilton did ruin her life. In real life, Eliza knew about the affair before the pamphlet, what she was pissed about was him revealing it. By doing it her reputation was extremely damaged as well because people would put blame on her for Hamilton’s affair. He also ruined Mariah Reynolds life, who was forced into this by her husband. There’s contradicting reports on what happened after the pamphlet was released but it’s generally known that she was forced out of town.

Lord of Hunger She was forced by the life her child and because her husband was very abusive emotionally and physically. She most likely didn’t want to be with Hamilton. Forced consent isn’t actual consent. Who did consent? Hamilton. This is on him just as much. She flirts with him and he agrees and comes back to her many times. I have many mixed feelings on Hamilton, but he did so many fucked up things to the people he loved and in the things he supported. I love Lin and he’s a genius, but he glossed over a lot of things.

The thing about this song that’s so great is how Eliza knows exactly how to hurt him. When it all comes down to it, Hamilton’s writing is the most personal thing to him. His greatest weapon and defense. So when she can go for anything- his morals, his character, his throat- she goes for his writing, because she knows that’ll hurt him the most. Really nice detail.

The thing about Eliza is that despite this song, as hurt as she was over the affair, she doesn’t leave him. She never divorces Alexander, never kicks him out of their home, they remain married and eventually reconciled, and having two more children together. (Historically, they have like 8 kids.) Everyone, well, most of everyone. Say that Hamilton was awful scum for cheating on Eliza, but he deeply regretted the affair and publishing the pamphlet not just because it destroyed his reputation but because it mainly broke Eliza’s heart and ruined her, after that he desperately tried to be the husband Eliza deserved. He’s not a bad person, he’s just a man who made _a lot_ of mistakes. Because like the song said “he never learned to take his time.”

Correct if I’m wrong, but I thought Eliza did leave him for sometime. I thought she went to her father and only returned to Hamilton because one of her children got sick. Her return eventually lead to a reconciliation. I might be remembering this incorrectly, though....

Karina Rodriguez no, your correct. They did separate for a considerable time but eventually came to living under the same roof again and eventually reconciling. She forgave him long before Philip died, in fact, I’d gather that Philip’s death brought them closer in their shared grief over losing their first child.

Honestly looking at her face it seems hard to say she hasnt gone through something similar. She might not have but from what ive seen from the videos jane has a super expressive face and its written all over her faces that she feels and relates to eliza. That can be a reason she took it so hard.
