I really like this character arc for Newt, she essentially has to go through the same trials and tribulations that Ripley does, if not more. One woman and one girl, forced to meet through dire circumstance, both teaching the other to grow (And I also like how Newt eventually rescues a Newt of her own. It's fitting, like paying back the universe for her own survival)
@FerDeLance064 жыл бұрын
Newt grew up badass - like her surrogate mom! When you think of it though, even as a little girl alone, what she must have lived through every night - listening to 'the monsters' roaming the complex (her home) looking for survivors, having to venture out for supplies in the daytime, moving stealthily, silently; knowing she could still run into one at any second ... even as a little kid, she was tough as old boots.

Couldn't agree more, I'm watching the first two movies again and it's so much better now knowing the story does have a future, out of the hands of Hollywood schmucks too absorbed in their own egos to care about the intense human drama of these stories.

I really enjoyed the novels from the 90's; after getting a chance to check out the comics a while back, the storyline differences were obvious. In Earth Hive, the space jockey made an appearance towards the end of the novel but was never heard from again. The Female War novel explained that they would set the timers for Orona's bombs for 6 months out to allow the bugs from faraway (overseas, etc.) to gather where they dropped the Mother Queen off before detonation. This plan made much more sense than what they did in the comics. Genocide explained how their plan to wait 6 months to vaporize the most bugs possible helped humans ultimately retake Earth. Of course, several of these novels were written before Alien 3 came to be, so the storylines seem a little wacky nowadays to some. Also, with the events of Prometheus and Covenant in the mix it muddies the water a bit. I still enjoy these books and these audiobooks here on your channel are very good. I'm a huge fan of the movies/novels/etc and will always be.

These comics were adapted into novels, which Derek uses dialog and details from to fill in some of the gaps that the comics don't fully flesh out. He really did a great job blending the two. I highly recommend the books if you like the comics. They're a pretty easy ready and if you've read the comics it really helps visual everything. #1 Aliens: Earthhive. #2 Aliens: Nightmare Asylum. #3 Aliens: The Female War all by Steve Perry

I always found it weird the Ripley representation in the comic books. I think it might be that Sigourney Weaver has a unique profile with high cheek bones and a square, low yet sharply defined jaw line and maybe it's asking too much of the comic book artists to properly catch that unique Weaver look.

I sense the responsibility that tugs at your voice for every bit you have done here. I would never be able to hear audio like this from someone else after experiencing all of this. The aliens have haunted my dreams since I was very young after being exposed to seeing one to them being aired on tv around 1995 or so. I didn't know what I saw at the time, but the image of he creature has never left me since. Delving deep into everything ALIEN related and trying to immerse my self completely into all of it has been my attempt at quelling this child hood fear of their design and meaning and to overcome their nihilistic torture on my mind. Thank you so much for all that you do. I have definitely lost a lot of productivity watching a lot of your content, so I hope I will be taking at least a short break for a while, but this series is what I needed to gain some simple sense of closure, at most, for the time being. Not gonna lie, I assumed Ripley was going to die battling the Queen. Perhaps Newt had escaped and she and Ripley somehow met each other’s gaze as the bomb goes off. Seeing Newt and Amy escape was more then enough for Ripley and as she sighed she felt weightless as this burning and incredibly bright light wash over her. Probably would’ve been a terrible ending but I just thought something along those lines would happen.
@vazul6664 жыл бұрын
I think that was intentional. When other stories put a main character in danger, you almost wave away the thoughts of them dying. But this is Alien, you know no one is safe. You know they will likely die. You wouldn't be too surprised if no one survives. The stakes are high.

I also have a black cat 🐈⬛ that always knows when I’m watching your channel at night. She has got me so bad at least 7 times since I found your channel. Seriously, your dedication and passion is inspiring and it shows. I have been fascinated by the alien series since I first saw it as an overly curious 11 year old, I’m 35 now. These graphic novel stories have better writing, story construction and staging than anything that came after Aliens. They definitely need to be made into a series. I have heard from your own reviews and the enthusiasm of friends that Romulus is definitely a return to what makes this universe something that we are all obsessed with 😂. I have said it once before and I’ll probably say it another 1000+ times I think you could create your own Alien Comic series that could be something special. You have great and natural understanding of the pacing, fear, anticipation and primal fear you need to feel watching these comics. Theory my housemates keep thinking I’m dying because I scream bloody murder when you get me with your jump scares 🤣 after I stop feeling primal fear I laugh so hard. This entire story line is just a poorly written mess as a whole, to be honest. Its not really the characters or other details that are wrong, more like the foundation the story is built on. Like, the Xenos wouldn't even be able to conquer Earth, their reproduction is far too inefficient. One human can only give life to a single Xeno, meanwhile a small military unit can destroy dozens of them. They'd literally run out of humans to infest and would just slowly get hunted to extinction. Maybe if multiple chestbursters could grow from a single human they could have made it work, but even then its too surreal. The basic concept of the Alien was never meant to be a civilisation threathening species, they are dangerous creatures, but not against an industrialised human military. They are only a threat in isolation, for unarmed civilians. This flaw you mentioned is just one among the thousands regarding the franchise, not just these books :/
@quempire26562 ай бұрын
Xeno’s can swim good.
@TheStreetadАй бұрын
@@tamas9554 They don't necessarily just need humans - they can canonically reproduce from anything larger than a small dog. They would be constantly coming out of the sea and countryside even without any real intelligence behind them, you would be stuck trying to eradicate them for decades. But sure, the creature's lifecycle is impossible and makes no sense for something that actually might evolve. They blast through their food and breeding stock in days or months and are then stuck hibernating indefinitely in the hope that someone eventually comes along that has both the technological prowess to find them AND the stupidity/inexperience to spread them around. Almost like they are deliberately designed to be an almost but not entirely insurmountable crisis for near-future human beings with space travel but the specific social attitudes of the 1980s. But that's fine - they are just a (semi-supernatural) force of nature for the protagonist to overcome. All movie monsters require a certain amount of willing suspension of disbelief - whether it is zombies, cloned velociraptors, demons from hell, unstoppable assassin robots from the future, sharks that understand the concept of revenge... The monster is just the vehicle to tell a story about people. In this case sure, the stupid venal humans COULD have easily wiped out the Xenomorphs if they had acted differently. They COULD have not brought the horrid things to Earth in the first place. But they didn't, because the comic has a cast of complete sociopaths, vainglorious idiots, drug-addled corporate shitbags, insane religious fundamentalists etc. The constant through-line is 'we did this to ourselves'.

Love the work you put into this. The Earth War was truly epic, but man did it exemplify everything I both love and hate about the Dark Horse Comics. The character work is fantastic (though I *really* don't like the teasing of something going on between Hick and Newt), but the Aliens themselves are just utterly pathetic. They hype them up, talk a big game about them as a perfect species or whatever, but every time the main characters are in danger they're suddenly made of tissue paper. And the Queen Mother is just the absolute alpha and omega of this-- the supreme over-mind of the alleged deadliest species in the universe, and she drops without a fight. This was a great era for a lot of reasons, but I'll never get over them turning the Aliens into the ultimate jobbers of science fiction.

I remember watching Alien 3 as a child through the fingers of my father's hand as he covered my eyes in the movie theater. I'm a thirty-six year-old man now but, I still remember my first encounter, if you will, with the Xenomorph designated, The Runner. I remember all to well the nightmares she spawned for a year straight after that, too. I wouldn't move an inch in my bed at night when the noise of rushing air via the Central AC unit was off. Thought if I did, she would hear me and snatch me right outta my bed. It's odd, though. What would normally scar a child left me...fascinated by them. To the point where even now I wonder if it was really fear that gripped me at night. It wasn't until years later I discovered Alien, Aliens, and finally rewatched Alien 3 with renewed excitement and fascination. After reading this series back in the day, and now finally hearing you masterfully retell the tale with such passion, I find myself questioning: Was I really having nightmares...or was I hearing the Queens call? If I may also add, with due credit, your voice is quite euphorious, AT. Keep up the amazing work and stay safe!

Probably about 6 of the videos will play until my system performs the automatic shutoff. I really enjoy your voice and the delivery and of course the great and interesting subject matter. Basically this channel is the asmr I use to go to sleep and now I can't do it without hearing alien theory while I lay down lol. Anyway i wanted to say that I really appreciate your passion and respect the amount of time and care you take on your quality content. Thanks again, and keep it up!

Awesome job once again. It was a pretty solid part of the story to go through. Of course kind of a downer in a few ways. For the Earth War it seems a bit poor of a choice to not make the war about Earth. Since apparently the main characters weren't fighting to get the Earth back and the only ones who get the Earth in the end never did any fighting at all...Maybe if it also tackled getting the planet back that'd be fine but...I guess not. Still, the narration as always is awesome. And there is good stuff there in terms of symbolic character arcs. Not a bad thing to somewhat pull Ripley back to herself or have Newt carry on her own arc. There was really good stuff through this massive hour of great content. Just personally kind of disappointed where the story chose to go. Maybe full bias since I like living on Earth.

I love it because it defies expectation, puts in a dark twist that only slightly spoils the satisfying closure to the characters and plot. A not-too-happy ending that makes you think back to all the previous story points; not with contempt but surprise and understanding. And yes, it is a War for Earth, where the pawns are humans (and xenomorphs), and the winner hardly does any fighting... not unlike any real wars in our history.

Great as the Rest of this Series! You really should do some Audiobook-Narrating. But whats up with Newts Hair? In some Pictures it looked like normal Hair but in another Scenes it looked, like she is a Super Saiyan or has Flames as Hair 🤣 But anyways: I was loving this Series, liked every Vid and subscribed 😉

It took me ages....but I'm finally here. You did amazing, friend. Thank you so much for all you've given us in this series. Also: Ellen Ripley is Samus Aran. Get that bitch some Chozo Armor. Right down to 1v1 with the Queen and leaving an atomic explosion in her wake. Had Metroid music blaring in my brain from the moment they told Hicks they were going.

Was this before the Space Jockeys turned out to be tall bald guys? Because I much preferred the old design
@mstcrow54294 жыл бұрын
Yes, art style is early 90's I'd say. And context places it before Alien 3 was released, or at least before Newt was planned to be dead.

they are stories from different comics in the expanded aliens universe, all made before prometheus and covenant and as such don't follow official "cannon" stuff like ripley, hicks, newt being alive, space jockeys look like elephants and not "tall bald guys", xenos have been brought to earth by rival company bio-national ...
