First chinook of my life | Twitching Jigs | Salmon fishing Vancouver

So I got out for a quick 1 hour Salmon fishing session in Vancouver
I was twitching a green jig and hooked onto 3 fish.
I landed two and surprisingly caught the first Chinook salmon of my life

For sure, always active. I checked out a smaller system yesterday and it was choked with Chum so didn't do much actual fishing. Kind of a bust but it was also a relief seeing good numbers of them finally.

Congrats on the chinook! They are one of the bigger salmon species, and this was a decent sized one. For so late in the chinook season that was actually in pretty decent shape. Whenever I catch chinook now, they look all like zombies.

Nice day. Know that spot well. Personally I don't remove wild fish from the water. Keep it in the net, remove the hook & let them go. One fish you had out of the water for over 30 seconds and that is much too long. Take the hook out when it's in the and lift for a quick photo if you have to. Should be able to do it under 10 seconds.

Yeah the coho was still bright but it was wild. And I thought it was a big enough Chinook for me to waste, if the meat wasn't good. Thanks for watching!

@@lzrk1d888 the system is a tough one, I have fished it some 6 time this year and it's a hit and miss. It's best to keep it a secret. It's good for quick trips, I wouldn't go here if I have enough time to fish

There is a guy in New West who ties these twitching jigs in zonker and maribou style. Found him off of FB marketplace. Cheapest I have ever seen anywhere in the lower mainland and well made too. Sold them for $4 each last year
