When you take hard sleeper train over night Instead of flight, you save on both ticket and accomdations. You also get a good sleep if you get use to it. Highly recommended for budget travellers in China.

Some small tips for you about the slow trains: 1.The plate in hard sleeper, it is the rubbish plate. Just throw your small rubbish on it the crew will throw them. 2.Usually a canteen carrige located in the middle of the train,we called it "餐车". Some of slow trains have stir-fry food, you may try it! 3.The hard seat level is not bench inside it, you may take it in short journey.(Maybe less than 1h?) 4.If you can find an accessible toilet in the slow train, there's a western toliet inside it. I'm chinese, really hope you have a nice jounery in China!😄

I can't believe you eat the noodles without draining the water. It is supposed to be drained before you mix in the spicy sauce, so you can imagine how hot the noodles supposed to be. On the other side, please try business class next time. 1 hour train journey will be ¥200. Very expensive but luxury. Regarding the food delivery service, you can even order McDonald's on the train. They will deliver to you at your seat when you arrive at the next station. I was in Zhangjiejia a few months ago, but the gem is actually a town between JiangJieJia and Cheung Sha called Feng Wang Old Town. Very pretty especially during the night.

Just watched your Zhangjiajie vlog and can't believe how many people there were for such a big place! I'm here now and it's practically empty! Got lucky with some sunny and clear days too which is rare in winter I believe. I'm curious to know if the longer hiking trails were just as busy because it seems like the local tours don't tend to walk them?

It's crazy right? We have never seen so many people in any of the other videos or guides we watched. Super unlucky on our part but glad to hear you're having a better experience. Now try the business class experience on the HS trains another step up in travel. Premium class an intermediate upgrade from 1st class on some trains. I've settled on First class as my standard. as a balance between luxury and affordability. Love Chinese High Speen rail, better than flying for less than 1500km. Dont forget you can order ahead by phone for a seat delivery takeaway from an intermediate stop.

I’m from Changsha. Your original expectations are actually right that you only have to change the platforms at Changsha station instead of taking the metro for one stop. In the passageway leading out from the station you can see a small side gate written “change to regular-service trains” and you can go across the platforms if you have a valid ticket. The reason behind this separation is that the new part of CS station is built on the other side of the original station and tracks.

the train ticket in China is really affordable. if you take the slow train, the lowest hard seat is only 0.12 Yuan per kilometer (0.02$ per kilometer), if you take the hard sleeper seat, it's only 0.23 Yuan per kilometer (0.03$ per kilometer), if you take high-speed train, the 2nd class ticket is only 0.4 Yuan per kilometer (0.06$ per kilometer). 😃😃😃

What's worth noting is that, all railways in China are state-owned, and the government is losing money in it for the sake of people could travel affordably, so do not find it weird if you don't find soap in the toilets or anything like that, it is understandable they would cut off some low priority needs that are not dead essential, it is a developing and socialist country after all, pricing for the people always comes first. Also, I don't think there would be any wooden chair or bed in Chinese trains, all are made of steel with at least a thin cushion on them, so no worries.

the naming of train/plane seating class in China can be confusing to westerners. First class is actually what's usually called business class, while business class is the 1st class in China. To make it more clear, it goes, from highest class to lowest: In the US/UK it's First class --> Business --> economy in China it's Business --> First class --> Second class

The instant noodles Yaz has are called "fire noodles," originating from Korea, known for their extremely high spiciness, and not a local Chinese flavor. Moreover, the way to eat these noodles is to drain all the water after softening them and then mix in the sauce. In China, apart from a few spicy-loving provinces, most people only buy a pack out of curiosity or to challenge their own tolerance for spiciness. When I saw Yaz take out that pack of instant noodles, I was startled at first, thinking, "Could it be that flavor of instant noodles?" Then, I couldn’t help but curl up the corners of my mouth because I knew exactly what was going to happen next.🤣🤣🤣

Travellers have to know China on paper is always described as a superpower with great innovation on all fronts , eg technology, economy , military… u name it. But have to understand that this phenomenon only happens less than a decade… u cannot compare the style of living in smaller matured and developed countries like Japan , Germany etc in which they have century or more to change their personal habits .China is pretty much still a country with 3 so called tier standard of living. The most prosperous one is in Shanghai, Guangdong, Beijing while the less developed cities would be in Guangxi , Yunnan eg. So some poor hygiene habits of Chinese can still be observed but give them 2 or 3 decades, these poor hygiene habits would be eradicated as ppl are generally more conscious of their behaviour.

For those budget hard bunker trains, dun as much as possible to avoid the top bunker beds. Becoz they are too low even for an average height passenger to sit upright on the bed. You need to bend over to sit properly. Thus very uncomfortable. I experienced it once many years ago when I took the night train ride from GZ to Wuhan. Worse ride I ever took.

@@adamandyaz Both soft and hard seats are steel frame structures, but the material of the cushions is different. Maybe you're using a booking system that misplaces the photo or describes it incorrectly. As you can imagine, if it's wooden, with such a large number of people, the seats can easily break, and maybe the seats need to be replaced or repaired every few months.

The high speed trains in China are indeed very comfortable. That is for sure. But you know what? The whole high speed rail system in China is an economic black hole. It runs under huge government subsidy, and has created an enormous debt of 6000 billion Yuan, which is roughly equal to 800 billion US dollars which is impossible to be paid back in any time. And that’s not the end of the story: this debt is still going up rapidly day by day. To reduce the cost, the government has started to close more and more stations. Remember, there is a good reason why most developed countries, which are far more richer than China, choose not to construct high speed rail, or, at least limit its size, because economically it is much cheaper to use aviation than high speed rail.
when a high speed train can transport the youngs in the mountains the poorest place to the big city to get education, to work, with a low price, that's already a win for a country.
