Is it just me or have you all noticed that so many of these China videos have exploded by 10x on KZbin this year after the plummet of foreign visitors since 2019. And, the number of titles wih SHOCK or SHOCKED appears so often that you never see this in any other travel titles to other countries. "The number of foreign visitors to China is significantly down compared to pre-pandemic levels, with reports indicating a drop of over 60% in 2023 compared to 2019, largely due to factors like COVID-related restrictions, geopolitical tensions, and concerns about China's government policies impacting foreign travelers; despite efforts to attract tourists back with relaxed visa policies, the number of international arrivals remains low. " "China's border authorities recorded 47.7m entries and exits by foreigners, including non-tourists, over that period. But after plummeting during the pandemic, those numbers have yet to fully recover, coming in at 3.1m and 29.2m, respectively, in the first half of this year.Oct 24, 2024"

People in EU & US are experiencing economic hardship. They can't afford to travel as much as before plus cost of flights have all skyrocketed after the pandemic.

@JasonVu-h7t30 минут бұрын
@@henryhymc2709 I just researched. The number of flights from USA to China is 50% less than before 2020 and there are no plans to increase as the remaining flights are still no where near capacity. In Europe, some 80% of the flights to China no longer exist as due to EU countries are no longer allowed to fly over Russia territory, they have fly around Russia and this adds 2-3 hours to their flights that is costlier in fuel and staff time so they cancelled as they cannot compete with Chinese flights that can cross over Russian territory. Additionally, ever since COVID and new Chinese Data Security Laws in late 2021, Western nations and Japan and Korea have been pulling their businesses outsdie of China and moving businesses back to Japan, Korea, Vietnam, India, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. The new data security laws are so broad and unclear, China can pretty much arrest anyone and any company. So, they are all pulling out. Many of the "Foreign Visitor Count" was actually many foreing workers going back and forth or their families visiting them. So, it is understandable foreign visitors to China is down some 60-70% since 2019. It appears that how the world isolated Russia that caused the collapse of the USSR, this appears now to be happening to China....the world is isolating China.

I remember when I first landed in SF (USA) airport in 2015 & the Immigration officers were so so arrogant & I thought to myself maybe it was his bad morning. Another time in 2017 and same arrogance. And I thought to myself, that's it and I won't return then. I have been to so many other countries before that and no immigration officers were as rude as US. Not my loss but yours anyways. Stay arrogant and it will boomeranged back. Now with Musk looking after DOGE, I hope they will cut down these non-productive ICE officers. I think even the Chinese immigration officers (from a so-called communist country) were more welcoming

The biggest feature of Sichuan food is numbingly hot and spicy!!!! because Sichuan is mountainous and humid all year round, so people eat numbingly and spicy food to get rid of the cold.Foreigners will definitely not be used to it when they eat it for the first time, and they will feel a bit stinging. When ordering, you can ask the restaurant to add less Sichuan peppercorns, or not add Sichuan peppercorns at all.Have fun in China!😁

I'm not a fan of all meats and cuts of meat/organs so I wouldn't blame you for caution there, but try to be more open to spices and non-meat dishes. here is the usa you go to a grocery store and see maybe 10 types of fruits and vegetables. in east/south east asia, there are dozens so you get a much wider array of flavors and textures. hope you enjoyed your trip!

Chongquing and guangzhou are also good citys for food from what i have seen on youtube. And the panda zoo in chengdu looks so cool

Spicy hot pot in those humid regions of China are traditionally used for holistic purposes of ridding the body of humidity and moisture due to the climate which is now a part of their daily cuisine. The numbness you are experiencing is from the green pepper corns and the spiciness from the red roasted chilies. Southern Chinese cuisine in the Guangdong region is completely different from the Sichuan region which focuses on subtle sweet fragrant, freshness and rarity of the ingredients.

Did they only eat vegetables for the hotpot? If that's the case, you have my full respect😂 Vegetables, especially leafy veges, are way too spicy in Sichuan hotpot due to the larger contact area that absorbs chili oil than meat. Sichuan hotpot is not meant for vegetables. The spicy strong flavor is meant to go with meat and organs, so vegetarians should definitely skip Sichuan hotpot. Very lovely video! Have a great time in China!

“Mala” is the uniqueness of the Szechuan cuisine. “Ma”= numbing and “La”= spicy hot! The numbing comes from Szechuan peppercorns with the active ingredient that functions as a topical anesthetic, that is why your mouth (oral mucosa) turns numb. Adding chili peppers to the experience and your mouth is both numb and on fire =“mala” It is an acquired taste, just like drinking beer for the first time! What the hell was that bitter bubbly drink? 🙄 personally, I love Mala more than just “La” For your China Travel 2.0, consider western China, totally different scenery, culture, and people. China has 56 official minority groups and many of them are located to the West and Northwest. Try Dali city in Yunan, many more rural experiences and nature there

49:05 As a Chinese I am sorry to tell you that you are paying super expensive prices for so-called Michelin food. The locals won't even eat this stuff, not to mention the authenticity, the price is already scam level. Not to mention that you are foreigners, we locals can't even understand what you are eating. Any small restaurant on the road is probably better than the so-called Michelin.😐

Yes, most of the money spent on these restaurants is spent on publicity, so their prices will be ridiculously high, really want to discover good food can actually be obtained by walking around in the streets and alleys, if you want to taste the upscale restaurant, you can also go to the Chinese Internet to ask, usually someone will answer!

For such a good taste and experience, though not as authentic, but I can appreciate it's novelty and originality while keeping some touch of locality in the food, it's a good price for fine dining I don't mind paying.😊

@@adamandyaz That looks like Dragon Well tea (Loongjian cha), it's from a place called Loongjian just outside Hangzhou city. A good quality authentic Dragon Well tea sells for about £1,000 per 500 grams (about 1 pound). If that tea you drank at the garden was indeed Dragon Well tea then it wasn't authentic or high quality, because most people don't know what is a good quality Dragon Well tea and how to brew it, the correct way to brew Dragon Well tea is to use 80 degree C hot water and brew the leaves for only a few seconds the first few times, strain the tea and let tlet the leaves cool down, otherwise the leaves keep on brewing which ruins the leaves. When there's less flavour left in the leaves the longer brewing time is required. Don't brew the Dragon Well tea leaves for a long time because the leaves become bitter and acidic. This applies to All good quality green tea. Good quality Dragon Well tea smells aromatic, and it tastes smooth and refreshing with slight flavour. There's nothing like good quality authentic Dragon Well tea. The high price you paid was for the garden setting, I doubt the tea was high quality because good quality tea is never brewed with hot water that has been stored inside a thermo bottle, but water must be freshly heated to the right temperature. The tea set up in that garden is not genuine, and it is overpriced, for that price you can get a few grams of fair quality Dragon Well tea served in a real authentic Chinese tea ceremony performed by a trained person using proper teaware. That garden is just a tourist trap. 😂
