Avanti doesnt use any part of the ECML at all. Avanti follows the WCML upto Carstairs and goes in a east direction but that section is still classed as WCML, all the way to edinburgh.

I use to get the train in the opposite direction and the first class was a joke no hot drinks as they was short staff only tiny cans of pop or water No food only packs of biscuits And that was first class

Avanti are a joke hopefully they will loose the franchise very soon, there fares are a joke plus they cancel trains left right and centre when there’s no train crew rostered

@@Sam-bz1hr Government controls the ticket prices however Virgin trains originally set the prices for their "express" services on the WCML. Hence why you look at the journeys from Euston where avanti/VT and LNWR/WMT both go to, they both have their own "(TOC name) only" tickets.

Well maybe train operators should do better and actually run their trains on-time.

I disagree with your comment. 1) Avanti Fares are high because VT set their prices high (to promote their express service )when they were competiting with LNWR/LM (Or Central Trains' /Silverlink) and those fares kept rising year on year. 2) Avanti announced that £32 Million was paid back in delay repay over the last year. Though majority of that was during the storms weather. In the same period it was announced that fare evasion was roughly £250M a year to the railway. 3) Avanti's timetable was made with next to no room for catching up. Euston to Glasgow has roughly 12 minutes of allowance for a 4 hour journey. Not to mention that given the journey they have every other operator in their way so if one of their services gets delayed, avanti gets delayed. 4) Even if no one claimed any delay repay, your ticket prices would still stay the same price. 5) When they set the ticket prices I would suspect that delay repay would have been factored in anyway, so railways (or rather DfT post-covid) would still get their revenue to cover the costs etc. Lastly I'm sure if your train was delayed you would have claimed your delay repay. I'm sure everyone would as why wouldn't you.

@@Greggs30806 I'm sure TOC's are trying their best to keep their trains to time, especially as now the DfT is in control, if they dont operate well, their "management fee" gets reduced. The other thing is it depends on whats causing the delays, majority of the time Im delayed with avanti, its either down to scotland weather or other operator trains breaking down. Both of which cant be controlled by avanti.
