To answer your question, the firing of guns at funerals is kinda like how waving or handshakes evolved from showing strangers that you're unarmed. Back when cannons took a LONG time to reload, warships would fire their guns to show other ships they weren't hostile. At some point that action became emblematic of the navy, and it morphed from there into a funeral rite.

It is shown that Marcus feels remorse about the death of his mentor. He thinks that he is carrying on her legacy of being a buffer between the upper and lower cities by working with Silco. The problem is that Grayson and Vander were (more or less) on equal footing while Silco completely dominates Marcus.

The entire theater scene was very well done, it shows you how theres a lot of politics involved in the higher positions of piltover. While heimerdinger is just oblivious to all that, just enjoying the play in the dark.

What's interesting is when Vi tells Caitlyn that she could get evidence for her but not from in prison, Vi is lying. She believes Silco is running things but she's been locked in Stillwater for 6 years or more. She could not know any details of Silco's operations or have any idea how to get Caitlyn evidence to bring Silco down. When Vi sees the monkey drawing in Caitlyn's evidence file, this is the first confirmation to Vi that Powder might still be alive. At this point, Vi's priority is getting out and trying to find her sister. This perfectly illustrates the lesson Vi tries to impart to Caitlyn in the brothel. "If you want people to talk to you, you need to let them think YOU HAVE what THEY WANT.", i.e. Vi wants out of Stillwater. Caitlyn wants proof of Silco's involvement with organized crime. Vi tells Caitlyn that she can get proof. It's also subtly implied that Babette, the owner of the brothel, did know who Jinx/Powder is but didn't have the heart to tell Vi and probably wouldn't accept the truth coming from her. She tells Vi who might know, Sevika, as she would, rightly, believe Vi would need to see for herself what happened to her sister.

Marcus is basically doing what Graycon was doing before, entering a deal with the head of the undercity, at the moment thats silco, he clearly hates silco but he realizes that him working with him and keeping him in check is better than letting him run rampant

The white stuff isn't crayon. For us older folk we new exactly what we saw when that came on screen. In the olden days of yore, or as you youngsters like to call it, old-timers days, ok boomer, there existed a technology where upon you could with light imprint an image on a light sensitive film. Then with a chemical process make that film stable. Then you used said film to transfer that image onto a special kind of paper. We called those transferred images 'photographic images' or 'photos' for short. If you then add a hormone driven female teenager or a petulant small child with a scissor or sharp object you could scratch said surface down to the white area underneath the photograph. Usually the teenager used this technique as a way to subconsciously (and sometimes not so subconsciously) express their emotion about the people in the image. Would there be a person of interest in a romantically fashion you could scratch little hearts around their head or even enclose the head of said person within a heart. If said person didn't reciprocate said romantic feelings... well, then the scratches usually would be of a different sorts. Usually the persons eyes would be scratched out. Think of it as a kind of ritualistic, almost voodoo kind of magic. The eyes are the gates to the soul of a person. Scratch the eyes of an image of that person it would serve as a form of a voodoo doll. Scratch the eyes of every last image you possess of that person you have in your household and maybe your parent would have to have a little talk with you. Or be on the phone discussing the possibility to enhance your dosis of medicine. Therefore when we see the 'scratches', its usually when Jinx have one of her little episodes, its her mind altering the past (or as we shall see, even the present) to fit according to her mood du jour. It is a very effective way to see her mental state and way to see the world. Its something she have had since the beginning. Remember the first scene in the first episode? When the scratches was there on the dead people they saw on the bridge? That was Powders mind dealing with the sight of dead people. Scratch out their eyes in your memory, and they're not really people.

Vi was taken and put in prison both to keep her alive and as the "pound of flesh" that Piltover needed for the explosion they caused. Marcus does feel guilty and felt he is now required to work for Silco because he can reveal that Marcus caused the death of Grayson. Jinx managed to steal Jayce's notes along with the gemstone, so she was recreating that device Jayce and Viktor had made. Your Arcane reactions has been my favourite. Having waited for so many years for season 2, we could only get by from reactors and Schnee videos... Totally recommend to you Schnee's video called "The SECRET to ARCANE's Depth...", criminally underwatched but totally mindblowing.

Jayce living life, loving, and making progress through learned necessary concessions, power capitulation, and mindfulness. With compassion still in his mind and heart, but the wisdom and caution of his first teacher at the top of his current priorities. He is not without flaws but Viktor, shirks living for fear of his impending demise, he focuses on his work with aiding others as his excuse while his main priority is finding a way to save himself.

Jayce embodies the dangers of science combined with politics. Viktor the dangers of careless science pushed by Time, sickness etc... There are so much parallels in that sequence. 2 dangers/risks of science, 2 way of bringing life, 2 ways to dedicate yourself (3 with heimerdinger, staying out of politic and rushed careless dangerous researchs)... To Say that Viktor is doing better than Jayce IS dumb. You can't achieve great thing with a narrowed vision, you can clearly see that he feels a urge due to is medical condition that will drive him to take all risks, when Jayce IS ready to take all risks of having the political/bourgeoisie get a hand on technology and therefore shape it to their need. Arcane isn't a Hollywood show, you can't oversimplify it with that good vs Bad Hollywood filtre. In Real life nobody wants to do Bad, you just get lost. Silco, jinx, Jayce, Viktor, same fight, different brain and ways.

I gotta say I’ve really been loving your reactions to this. Arcane is probably my favourite show, but I also played the game know the lore and thus I thought a lot of the story telling was amazing it’s really nice to see it from an outside perspective who doesn’t know the characters. I think for me Mel was an outstanding character and also since she’s only been in the show I knew nothing about her trying to figure out what her motives are is interesting. I think it’s ironic that a cartoon show has probably the most realistic characters where they feel like real people. The biggest disappointment of arcane is they announced season 2 is the final season.

Sad detail: when Vi heard the guard's cane, she started rolling her shoulders because she was getting ready to get beaten down. It's such a part of her routine that she associates the sound of the cane with a beat down.

Cupcake is a callback to the first episode when the gang was moving through Top Side to steal from Jayce's lab, there are cupcakes one of the balconies and one of the gang grabs the cupcakes to eat.

It's also a reference to the game. Caitlyn has skill called Yorlde Snap Trap, in which she lays a trap with a cupcake as bait. Then Vi came out and her lines had her nickname Caitlyn "cupcake" in reference to the traps.

i like marcus, between the cast he is the most ordinary person, and his character goes full circle. he is in the same sport as grayson, she had a deal with the undercity in exchange of peace, and the concelors probably were as corrupt, but while she had Vander he has Silco, and no one can make that deal but him, so he dont like it, but is his burden.

Arcane, adjective: understood by few; mysterious or secret. Addendum: from several fantasy sources, prominently Dungeons and Dragons, wizard's magic in particular is described as "arcane" magic, which is apt: it is based on secret, well-guarded or hard to obtain knowledge. That is likely where the use of "Arcane" in this show has arrived by. However, that is not the sum of it. An understanding of specific and general relativity is somewhat arcane; it requires study and is very non-trivial. The same is true of tax codes, marine biology, mathematics and psychology. All of these subjects are arcane by dint of being poorly understood by most people and well understood by a vanishingly small minority. I do feel that you're brushing over something in Sevika's fight with Vi... Sevika was sitting around minding her own business, playing cards with colleagues/friends/whatever. Then Vi attacks her out of nowhere with a flying knee to the face. I don't think any fight that starts that way can really be said to be indicative of relative skills between the fighters - I'd say Sevika is the better fighter between them, and indeed, Vi only survives because of outside intervention in the fight. But there's another thing to consider - Vi attacking Sevika at all is indicative of poor planning, shortsighted thinking, and a willingness to use violence as the first and only resort... and her accusation of Sevika being a "traitor" is laughable. She betrayed no one. Betrayal requires a breach of trust or confidentiality. Sevika told Vander to his face that she was done following his cause and organizing, in a situation where the only fallout of her doing so was political. There's no reason to suspect that she told Silco any of Vander's secrets. or that she was privy to any of them, even. She changed teams very publicly and in an orderly fashion. If she's not allowed to do that, then she would have to be a slave without the right to her own self-determination. Vi is reacting like a child, because she is a child still. I would hazard that you do not mature much while growing up in a horrific torture prison. Marcus did put Vi in prison, seemingly without due process of any kind. It does seem that's perfectly acceptable in the laws of Piltover; the big tattooed thug that got sent there was remanded without any kind of trial or due process as well. However - Vi was absolutely the guilty party in the crime Marcus was investigating, namely the burglary at Jayce's workshop/lab, so while I find the so-called legal system present in Piltover repugnant, for once they at least got the right person. As such, the council, Heimerdinger in particular (as the head of the council for two centuries) are responsible for the state of Piltover's laws, territories and citizens. I would in fact argue that Silco's rebellion is not only justified and necessary, but an inevitable consequence of the misrule and oppression that is taking place. It is basically not possible to keep a population pacified in toxic slum with mere police brutality without resistance emerging.

Really loving the Viktor love XD I rewatched this yesterday, and I paused at the high score list and you could get a good grasp of the low numbers. Claggor's few attempts are drowned out by Vi's. When you take a look at the score range, then follow the score being shown as Jinx is playing, you can see her ending in a solid 2nd to Vi's top score. I might be reading too much into this, but I think it is implying that she is still solidly the #2, her little sister even after all this time, not simply that she just couldn't beat her. Aside from that, I think there is something to where she was standing where she shot the bird (where she originally fixed the contraption for Milo), but I'm not too sure what it means. Maybe Milo's hair was crow black or something? I'm not sure if Milo is represented by the crow, or if it has some other meaning maybe trauma or underworldy-related. This show just bleeds detail it is wild!

​@@babette5918 Could be, but considering how good the writing in this show is, I doubt it. I found a good way to learn a character is to just watch them during a scene. You pick up so much about their character, such as Milo's relationship with Vi shown in the first episodes (likely just wanting to get praise from her since he respects her rather than anything romantic) and a rivalry with Powder I think?). But regarding the crow, I think there are a few instances of crows being one of the few animals that can survive on that bottom side. Next time I watch this, I'm gonna see if I can spot each crow reference to see if there is a pattern. That's the amazing thing about great art like this. You can view it many times and keep picking up more details every time.

Hi again, came here with a couple more good kinda fresh animes you may have missed. 1) Tengoku Daimakyou. Interesting anime with mystery in postapocalyptic world with well-written characters, dramas, world. A good anime. 2) Kusuriya no Hitorigoto. Takes place back in years in China , its kinda a story about a girl who is a beautiful character, she really is a gem in my opinion, visuals are pretty, dialogs are interesting (cause main girl is very smart and its a pleasure to watch her story and how she solves situations and reveals whole big story).

I find interesting how you see the "shooting challenge" incident between Grayson and young Cait at the start of the episode. For me, i fully agree with Cait here. Grayson said she thought Cait deserved the victory, but if she deserved it, she would have won by herself, even if her opponent had given 100% of herself. From my perspective, Cait is right, yes she deserved the victory, but by letting her win for free, Grayson stole this victory and it's pretty lame. You can"t appreciate a trophy if you think that your opponent let you won. Cait is already frustrated by the fact that her life is pre-directed by her parents, she want to prove herself and be praised for her skills, not for her parents or bloodline. I'm 100% with Cait, i would be mad if someone would stole my indeed deserved victory, by just letting me a free win.

Marcus is the perfect story of a corrupt cop. Marus wantetd to do the right ting, Silco offerd him asistance and carear. Marcus didnt know then who he is and acepted. The good women died but marcus dindt came out of the deal. So he hat to play along Silco. It is realy simular to a corrupt cop in reality. The Underworld konw how to get cops allround.
