The only ones that could have fought against Pernida were probably Urahara and Shunsui if he went all out from the start. Other than taht, Kenpachi could have gotten the win if he went all out from the start too and didnt just play around and act stupid without his Shikai lmao

I like how they are splitting and mixing fights. It gives more cinematic effect like in TV series or movies. It's less predictable and you have more cliffhangers.

I was studying nervou tissue recently and a type of neuron caught my eye. Called Purkinje cell, its pretty much just a huge neuron. I dont know if Kubo got inspiration from it to name Pernida, but it sure made it easier for me to remember it. Edit: I searched it up and they're present in the cerebellum. They're also fundamental for motor coordination and processing sensory information.

Hey, I do not know what you are going through, but I am sorry regardless. This life is such a strange chaotic influx of joy, hope, and misery... I myself was born with asthma, and was having heart surgery by the time I was 14. I don't know if the misery in life is what makes it worth living, but I do hope whatever trials you and your loved ones are enduring, can be overcome. The problem for Rem is that she is DELIBERATELY increasing Misa's lifespan because she loves her. Light asks the question he does of Ryuzaki specifically to ensure that Rem knows that Misa will face the death penalty for using the notebook. And since using the notebook can alter one's own lifespan- and indeed she could just be taken out using the notebook anyway- this means Rem is saving Misa's life intentionally. That would cause Rem's death because of the rules Shinigami are bound by. Light has resented Rem from the start because of her threat against him. She is the one thing he can't destroy and the only shinigami that has openly threatened to take him out. Light therefore planned to find a way for Rem to go bye bye. But, he also has to worry that Misa will get upset about this. Which is why he asks her to remember L's real name- although maybe that was his plan to start as well. When she fails, and Rem intervenes to save her life, sacrificing herself as a result, Misa isn't smart enough to think twice and see through Light's manipulations.

Shinigami don't need food or water. Just lifespans from humans. That said, just because they no longer NEED food does not mean they don't enjoy it. Rem has never shown an interest in any human foods, but obviously Ryuk loves apples.

Was it really much of a gamble, though? Let's say Light got unlucky, and he never got his hands on the Notebook. He has already had his name cleared. He has no memories. It won't start up again with Higuchi gone. Unless Misa gets her hands on something, but of course that is itself premised on Light getting his memories back. Rem is unlikely to know where the other book is hidden, and she may actually just leave things as they are, thinking that Misa will be happier that way. Without Rem's help, Misa never gets her hands on the notebook again. Rem could wipe out the task force, I suppose. In that case Light wins regardless. Ryuzaki could have his suspicions, but unless it all starts up again, Light and Misa are in the clear. They just get away with it. He only has cause to question certain things once it starts up again.

So Light's plan was basically this: Give Rem back Misa's notebook, have her give it to Ryuk, then have Ryuk drop it. This effectively switches the shinigami that owns Misa's notebook to Ryuk, not Rem. Then he gave up ownership of his notebook, making Rem the owner of his original notebook. She was instructed to give it to a man who would abuse it, someone Light knew he could catch. This means that when Light and L catch Higuchi, it's Light's original notebook that he gets back. Although theoretically it may not have mattered, since he now had two notebooks that his memories were tied to, so if either one were to make contact with him, he should get his memories back.

American cops would have put holes in Higuchi the very second he started reaching for that bag. He probably would have been tackled the second he entered the building, but if not, yeah, he wouldn't have gotten the chance to draw on our cops. Japanese cops and hired criminals apparently have a bit more restraint. They were probably hoping to take him alive so they could interrogate him and have someone to put on trial.

This episode was filled with throwbacks both subtle and overt. -Hyrenkyaku -kenpachi and mayuri have been fueding since the very first captains meeting, and that old hater energy they have between eachother carries all this time later. -Mayuri used another subordinate as a bomb like in the rescue arc. Plus extendo arm -When szyal apporro said it was impossible for mayuri to replace his organs to counter resurreccion in such a short amount of time and mayuri says "and yet here I am" with no further explanation. Well we just saw a demonstration in this episode of how he might of done that so quickly. P.s. "We dont know what it is so its best to just ignore it", kenpachi charges, "Do you have something to say nemu?" Nemu knows damn well scientist dont ignore the unknown and especially not mayuri. That was the line he used to set up kenpachi and it worked. Not only did pernidas voice change but its gaining an intelligence and personality in this episode, its kind of shocking that mayuri hasn't seemed to notice yet. No one seems to notice how pernida goes from speaking broken grammar and being almost angry he couldn't understand what mayuri was talking about, then starts sounding like he is being snarky and teasing mayuri for being embarrassed, all while his sentence structure, tonality, and annunciation are improving rapidly.

Shunsui's fight with Lille is next. Seems like they're showing all the things happening in the war at the same time, like while this was happening shunsui was fighting Lille. I think this is being done to show the soul reapers looking like they've won, only for their enemies to turn the tables on them.

One interesting detail is that Mayuri uses his left hand to perform the self-surgery, which is his adaptation to Pernida's ability. So they are both using left hands of progress/evolution :) Also this gives some context to Sayel Aporro's words back in that fight where he expressed disbelief about Mayuri being able to modify his whole body in such a short amount of time. It's also awsome to see both his bootleg hirienkaku and that his sun suit served a purpose, being packed with explosive reactive armor. Btw, Perniedas VA said that his voice changes as he evolves.

For those that didn't know @10:00 he's describing the autonomic nervous system's (ANS) auto recoil ability when the skin feels pain. A brain response would take too long and the skin would burn in that time, so the body recoils on it's own out of compulsory input. I believe the concept of Pernida is reflective of the ANS's functions and is why Reio's arms gained their own sentience in the series.

from what it seems, it probably goes 1. Mayuri vs Pernida part 1 (this week) 2. Kyoraku vs Lille part 1 (next week) 3. Mayuri vs Pernida part 2 (next next week) 4. Kyoraku vs Lille part 2 (nexter next week) which, i don't really think I'd like if it goes that way, but dunno. Maybe next week is half the Mayuri fight and half the Lille fight starting

next weak probably wont be the continuation of this fight but switch to shunsuis fight. Therefore his poem. They have to give the second half of rhis fight a whole episode. This one was just setup. Shame hanataro disappeared offscreen between last episode and this one. he was not even in the group running shot in the beginning. Would have been very funny to see his struggles with the pernida colateral dammage.
