Beautiful Viola! I call anything with shoulders violas. So sorry if it's a violin. I admire the simplicity of the varnish ingredients. Hope she cures up nice and hard for you! I wonder if sun thickened linseed oil would allow a less burnt appearance? That way you wouldn't have to cook it all and risk blowing up? I got through vanishing my bridge with clear nail polish 3 months ago. Just dime store clear nail polish. Two coats and it sets up in about 20 minutes to half hour. Takes maybe a week to entirely get hard. I'm very satisfied with the finish. A little thick but it sets up so nice and quick it's almost worth it. If I had to do it over I would have thined it 50/50 with acetone. To aid brushing. But as it sits I've been playing Sibillious on her and I was the one who carved her from the stock bridge blank. Hope you'll follow up and show coats 2 3 and 4 of your 5 string violin. Im a former oil painter and anything to do with painting and vanishing interests me. Thanks for showing your beautiful craftsmanship. I wish I could make my own violin! Kudos and congratulations!😅

Gorgeous violin. I just made oil varnish myself, but it also had rosin. Is your varnish only turpentine and oil? No resin? Please keep posting!

What would happen if you mixed beeswax + oil varnish + pine resin and applied it to the violin?

No one watched, I’m posting regularly on Facebook and I’ll be bringing KZbin back here shortly after I get some things sorted out.
