HI Phil. Just an update on the rigs I have copied from you. I have been fishing with a friend over the last few weeks. My score is now 12-3 with a lot of the fish coming onto the top hook. The fixed top hook just nails it, the stop is working well and doesn't move on fish under 2lb. I have swapped over to 40lb snood which seems to be keeping tangles at bay. Many thanks for your rig tips which are working well for me, my mate still hasn't figured out what I am doing different. PS we share the same bait. Keep em rolling and tight lines,. Andy and also Pixientroll Andy..

good video thanks. I like the tip about the fixed top hook. I shall look at making ( figuring out ) a couple for this weekends Cod session on the East Yorkshire coast.

Have a look for some videos on the knotless knot. Tie the bottom hook on your snood first but cut the snood a little longer than you need (you will lose a few inches through wrapping). Then leave the gap you prefer and get tying. Cheers 👍🏼

@@BanditFishingUK I figured it out just before I read your replay. Many thanks for the reply. I use knotless knots for all my feeder fishing on lakes. Makes sense now. Hair rig the bottom hook. Good luck with the Cod fishing. I will let you know how my Friday night session goes. Andy.

I made a couple of the rigs up, worked well and got me coddy. The only thing I did wrong , (now rectified), the gap from the bottom hook to the top hook was a little bit big. Baits were not big enough for it. Re tied with 2 1/4" gap ( about 55mm ) and good to go. Great bits of advice thanks. Andy.

Great news Andy! Yes you have to determine the rough size of your bait before you fix the top hook but after a bit of trial and error it will be worth the effort. Glad it worked for you 👍🏼

Great vids lads!! Recognise lots of the marks you fish as I’m a Barry boy originally! I was just wondering what rod and reel set up you use for mixed ground and especially targeting cod
@BanditFishingUK4 жыл бұрын
Hi Stu! I (Phil) use my Century Kompressor sports or Zziplex m4gts on clean or mixed ground but generally on rough I’ll use the centuries. Reel wise we like Penn casting specials and sl3Osh reels for most Bristol Channel work. They hold plenty of strong line which suits us 👍🏼🎣

Looking to fish magor ledges soon, but what tides best to stay on the ledges and not get pushed back by the tide?? What tide chart do you follow when you plan fishing the ledges?? Just so when I plan on going the tide will be not too high?? Hope what I said makes sense lol. I fish redwick ledges and that is fished on neap tides. I would assume magor is pretty much the same. Cheers Jas.
@BanditFishingUK4 жыл бұрын
Exactly the same as redwick. The very smallest neaps to stay on the ledges. We usually go off the Cardiff scale so less than 10m on that scale. But the smaller the better. An onshore wind can obviously whip it up and make the waves wash over but you probably know that anyway. Be safe and Good luck 👍🏼

Just wondering is the stop with the rubber tubing meant to slide once you put the fish under pressure reeling in or is the pulley to act as a normal 1 hook flapper?
@BanditFishingUK4 жыл бұрын
The stop slides once you’ve got the weight of the fish, the idea behind it is when the fish takes the bait there’s instant resistance hopefully meaning the fish self hooks. Both myself and Phil have used it for most of our fishing over the past 12 months with great success.

Another great video Phil, well done. I fished Goldcliff today, had a couple of Whiting. Do you find that the Cod prefer a stronger current/rip?? Thanks, Gareth
@BanditFishingUK4 жыл бұрын
Can’t beat a bit of whiting fishing! Yes I like a bit of rip when cod fishing and I find I get a lot of them just off the main current if there’s a visible rip. If you cast in to the rip itself the lead seems to settle in the right spot anyway. Thanks for watching!

Phil what was the length of the snood & size please on that short pulley rig
@BanditFishingUK2 жыл бұрын
Sorry we’ve missed your comment until now Gary. The finished length is around 18 inches. I did a video on making the rig from scratch kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqLOdoiJoceEbNE. As you know there are no hard and fast rules and rigs as short as 12 inches work also. We generally use shorter rigs when the tide is pulling harder. Thanks for watching 👍🏼🎣

Where in magor is that Mark
@BanditFishingUK4 жыл бұрын
It is near the outfall which is between Redwick and what I think is a water treatment plant near Magor. This mark is just on the eastern side of the outfall/stream that you will easily find on google maps or similar. The ledges are better fished on the smallest of tides and calmer conditions. The bigger tides will push you back on to the grass and can even get a bit dangerous so are best avoided
@nathanthomas91444 жыл бұрын
Cheers for the info / recommendations on fishing this mark it only 20 mins away from we so will be giving it a shot 👍 nice to see a channel replying to comments keep up the good work
@andyscoey35934 жыл бұрын
Hi guys. A little bit late on this reply to the video. Question about fixing your bottom hook. Do you ever think about changing the way your bottom hook is tied. Line through the hook side of the eye and then whip onto the shank . Knotless knot and tag cut off. I am finding this makes a big difference on the fresh water fishing, ie Carp,Tench,Bream etc. More hook ups. It alters the angle of the hook and helps to get the point in, should reduce bumped fish. I have tied a few pulley rigs as you have with the bottom hook whipped onto the shank. I will fish this and a normal rig side by side for a few sessions and get back to you on a later video. I want to see if there is any difference. Cheers for now. Andy Scoey.
@BanditFishingUK4 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, I (Phil) played about with this way of tying the hooks on for a while on my flapper rigs but it didn’t help my hook up rate, in fact it might have made it a touch worse. I believe they call it a snelled hook. American fishermen use it a lot for catfish. Also with the bottom hook, even if it is a knotless knot, it will still be whipped to the bait straight so you might not see the benefits but it’s still worth a go! Thinking about your rigs and improving them is a massive part of any type of fishing and small adjustments can put more fish on the beach. We look forward to seeing how you get off with your rig experiment. Thanks for watching!
