Not fished that part of the country for a long time. Friend and I used to boat fish out of Watchet using uptide rods. Bites like the ones you describe as a real wallop were at times common and usually resulted in tope. Rod would whack over and then stop moving. Wind in to check the bait and hey presto little tope about 10 to 12 inches long. Lovely perfectly formed tope. Keep up the good work

Hi John. As you know I'm an advocate of peeler crab as a number one bait. For your followers who are not familiar with foraging for the rascals,. Gently turn over the rocks in the rock pool, keeping the water clear, look for the crabs that have a pink tinge on their leg joints. Pick the fellow up, take hold of any leg, give it twist, and if is about to shed/peel, the shell will come away in your fingers.

Everytime I take the car ferry across the Clyde from McInroys point to Hunters quay I always stand up top looking down at the water and wonder what is swimming around underneath me. People who don't like fishing just think it's boring standing watching the tip of your rod in the pouring rain and as we say in bonnie jockland, "it's blawin a hoolie" don't understand the thrill of what could be. Another good and simple video to understand. Frozen mackerel ( self frozen) is one of the best all round baits you can get. Only snag now is they are so scarce I haven't caught any this year! Once we could catch them by the hundred in the Summer. IT IS ALSO VERY tough but has to be frozen soon after catching, preferably while rigour mortice is still there. The last time I fished with my frozen Macks I caught Dogfish, conger, dab, whiting. Bass like it but don't get a look in 😆

We have a regulated commercial fishery for 'dogfish' here in the US. It is my understanding most of the catch is sent to Europe. When I was a kid in the '70s, the seafood company Gorton's marketed a breaded "fish stick' made with dogfish. I distinctly remember it because in my mom's family there were many commercial fisherman (my uncles and great uncles) and they thought it was a sad joke, but it made money. They caught more desirable species for our table. We ate cod, pollock, bass, mackerel, flounder, etc., and fresh water fish like trout. The two species of shark I have eaten are Mako and Porbeagle, cut in steaks, and they are delicious.

Your dogfish we call Spurdogs I believe. 👍🏻🎣
@hubrisnaut7 ай бұрын
@@TheFishLocker I think you are correct. We have smooth and spiny (spurdogs) 'dogfish' here in Maine. I am a fan of scientific names but that is not normal parlance. They are both "trash fish'' to us in 'regular conversation'. But, I've found some 'trash fish' fresh water species, like river chub, pickerel or yellow perch, are good eating. I'm willing to give both what we call 'dogfish', smooth or spiny, a try.

Thanks for the vids. I watch more of your videos than most. I’m sending you the money that I could spend on KZbin premium, to remove the adverts. I’ll suffer them for a while and send the money to the people making such good content. I missed this vid when released and so I’ve only just seen it. I know the marks well. I fish here from time to time and it’s what renewed my interest in sea fishing after a 10 year absence. I mostly lure fish for bass on the south coast or Wales these days . One day I hope to be in position to get a boat and have as much fun as you….. well almost! In the meantime, I really enjoy the content you work hard to produce. Long may it last! Cheers.

Sunday night again. You’re more patient than me. 40! Or so dogfish in inr day. Better luck next week! My local fish operative are catching lobster, Crab, turbot, brill and a variety of lovely fish. I’ve almost given up meat! They use doggies in their pots.
