Countries have tax treaties, essentially if you say pay 20% tax on money you make in the USA but the tax rate in Australia is 30%, when you bring your money to Australia you pay the 10% difference. If the NRL players are licking their lips about tax savings Australia would have made a special tax deal not to apply full outstanding taxes on PNG earned money.

It is going to make the argument of money versus success very obvious as soon as their first squad is announced. Dolphins couldn't get marquee for their first season from 2 years of throwing money at players and they would have been able to live in a really nice area. V'landys has been great with his no nonsense decision making up to now, this could fall very flat and be very embarassing. I was under the impression that all the clubs have to vote to include any new franchise, how would any club vote for a competitor to have double the cash to spend on players and get 10% of gate takings of every other club thus draining finances from everyone else? Might sell out a PNG stadium at $1a ticket, but the people there cant afford to pay for a normally priced ticket every week. Saying it will transform the country may be true over 40 years, but 15 million a season in player wages alone will kill the thing unless every other side has to forego revenue to keep them afloat long term. If they played 5 games a year in PNG and had a home ground in North Qld somewhere it would be feasible, pretty sure the Hunters play out of Nth Qld and thats a QLD cup team.

(1) PNG politics sucks. Dear NRL, please stay out of politics. It's all very clear. (2) PNG needs big imporvement in it's public service and better access to good health and education for it's citizens and not rugby league. We have everything but we are very poor in managing them due to our own attitude/ethical problems, greed, corruption, etc. I think its better for both countries to relook at the Enhanced Cooperation Program (ECP) which was an Australian aid program to PNG that aimed to address law and order issues, improve border and transport security, and reform the public sector. Revive and enforce it further. (3) PNG will turn 50 years old in 2025 and we haven't even have railways after the old remains left by the early missionaries & colonies in the old abandoned coconut plantations, which are no longer there (only in photos). Oz taxpayers money into PNG rugby league team is a joke...WAKE UP!
