Thank you ... I work a lot with these dogs day in and day out. They go every where with us. Sometimes more than the kids do at times - - a Great dog takes years to make. Ryder is only a year and half old and she’s coming at 6 months.

Hi Kayla........... I remember those 90 degree days, no cabs, pulled New Holland 77 baler, Wisconsin powered 4 cy engine with wagon behind baler. We stacked 90 bales per wagon and did maybe 4-5 wagons a day....To the barn, off loaded bales into a 40 foot New Idea bale elevator up into barn at temps 100 plus !!!!! After 5 loads you eat supper and went to bed !!!!

Some days we bring them in & he’ll unload while I continue to bale. Other days we fill trailers til we have to unload. Anymore it’s just easier to load it all the day and then he spends the morning unloading while the dew burns off. Allowing us to get home at a more decent time!

Have not bailed hay since the late 70’s when they bought our property for DFW Airport but I do remember the smell and it was great. Just like after plowing the black soil it had a great musky smell. I will never forget.

Kayla, great to see you getting started on the hay. That was one of my favorite times of year.The smell of fresh hay is one of the great smells on the farm and also corn silage is another. The baling I did was with a thrower into wagons. The good old days. Good luck and hope no issues to stop your progress.

Oh, how I love this smell of alfalfa hay, no other hay like it! We rake our hay like y'all do but we only have a 12-wheel high speed rake. If our grass hay is quite heavy, we ted it but never tedded alfalfa when we used to raise it.
@ChroniclesofKayla
@ChroniclesofKayla 3 жыл бұрын
Yea - if we Ted it’s extremely rare!!! I’m Not sure we even pulled it out at all last year - for us it’s just not necessary- and Jason won’t ever Ted Alfalfa due to leaf loss
@ronaldwinder5051
@ronaldwinder5051 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's the same reason we never tedded alfalfa, the leaf loss. If the weather permitted us to bale it dry, Carl hired a guy with a big square baler to come in and bale it for us. He started late in the evening after the dew came on to save more leaves. It made for a late night hauling it in from the field but was well worth it.

That is some hard work right there, we always stacked the bales on a wagon and went straight to the loft in the barn. Of course that was 40 yrs ago, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Loved seeing Dolly jumping in hay. Thanks for all you do.

Nice operation! When I was young, I would stack the hay on wagons, right behind the square baler. keep up the good work!
@ChroniclesofKayla
@ChroniclesofKayla 3 жыл бұрын
Jason used to have some Hay Wagons when we first started dating - ones that picked the bales up and stacked um. But they would fall in the barn - the stacks wouldn’t hold. Which led us to the the Kuhns setup we now have. Makes life so much easier doing hay with as much volume we do!

Some really nice hay there ! I am surprised that you don't need a tedder to make it happen when bad weather is forecast. Not much damage to the hay if done early in the day with dew and at a slow rotor speed . Green colour is paramount if selling to equine sector .
@ChroniclesofKayla

Yes majority of our hay sent out is too the Equine or Dairy industry. So green is HUGE. Relative Feed Value & protein is KEY for us.

If it’s too short to cut the hay we will spray if need be. However if it’s right at peak mowing - we just mow it down ... we have really only had “potatoe leaf hopper” in the past years that he’s sprayed for.
