I’m not sure they did a fantastic job with the wiring! Some very inelegant examples on show to do with beams and some dodgy looking cupboard wiring. It takes a good electrician to deal with cables in old buildings like this. Cute cottage. But all the bedroom furniture is going to have to go upstairs disassembled. That nice wardrobe will probably come apart. The bed might be harder.

Yes, definitely a lot of work went into bringing it to this state. We keep noticing lots of paint on all the wood in the house (doors, beams, ceiling…), and some of these old paint stains are bright pink 🤦‍♀️ So we’re really happy that someone actually took the time to make it look nice again

I live in an old cottage. We have a trap door going upstairs from the beams in the lounge and furniture goes upstairs that way. Apparently it was how coffins were originally taken down after someone had passed

Thank you 😊 yes, lots of different old features from different centuries. Every day we discover new things about the house. The garden is lovely, unfortunately the back wall will be covered by a wooden garden studio. But we have a beautiful wisteria growing on that holy tree, and we’ll definitely be planting some climbing roses around the garden ❤️

The wood is much stronger than it looks. That beam in particular is not structural, so should be fine. We will be getting an expert to examine the whole house just for a peace of mind ❤️

As for the wardrobe, it can probably taken apart easily. After all, in the past people had to fit it through narrow stairways also. As for the bed, just pat the mattresses on the floor for now. And buy a romantic copper bed befitting the cottage. 😍

Once upon a time a time I lived in a house very similar to yours and the only way we could get large furniture upstairs was through the upstairs windows. If they open up wide enough, without a central bar, you could consider this option. Good luck with everything.

Don’t put pressure on your selves nothing has too be perfect when you are first starting your beautiful home journey .my advice would be start any home improvements or cleaning from the top of your home and work down ..resulting in not damaging new decor trailing furniture DIY dust or damage to new decor throughout your home , also if you start in the kitchen or lounge you can get very comfortable delaying the rest off your home till another day .. start in your bedroom is a very good place to start take your time with your choices and enjoy the experience. blessings too your new house and lots of joy too you both in your new home 🏠

When my husband and I moved into our house 14 years ago, we did so in the dark in a snow storm. That first night, we also discovered our bed wouldn’t fit upstairs in the bedroom. And we accidentally locked our cars in the garage. We slept on the mattress on the floor in the dining room that night as a blizzard raged outside, and we had to break a garage window the next morning to get our cars. But 14 years later we are here, we love our cozy home. ♥️

Stunning home, I’d love to live somewhere like that. Regarding the wardrobe, open the door and look at the back panel. Many antique wardrobes were made to split in two, due to houses and especially stairways being smaller back in the day. If it was made like this, there will be a join that runs top to bottom. If it does split obviously try taking it up the stairs, but another thing people often used to do was to take it through a bedroom window! Yours are probably too small but it might be a possibility. x

Precious 😂☠️ The bones of the house look amazing and very well cared for. So much character 🏡💚 I have a large French armoire with shelves that I use for storing linens and decorations that lives in the living room where I had a wall that could accept it. I also have the bottom portion of a vanity in the living room because it doesn’t fit in my bedroom. So even without stairs my old house has a way of dictating unusual furniture placement. It’s all good…

Would it be possible to dismantle the wardrobe and reassemble it once you manage to get the panels upstairs, it's such a nice piece of furniture. Mattress laid on a blanket on the floor will be fine until you find want you want. Lovely property, it will tell you what it needs as you get used to it. ❤ XXX

Look for a hatchway to bring the larger items upstairs. There might be an area of floorboards that is cut so it can lift easily to move large items upstairs.

Our first home after we married had an older house with a spiral staircase like yours and had to have the movers take a widow out to get a bed into the upstairs bedroom. Movers are use to such things with older houses. Looking forward to following your journey. M.

Yeah, we didn’t want that furniture that much 😄 The windows are all original, so wouldn’t want to mess with that. Plus they are even smaller then the staircase access.
