We lost our sable over six months ago... It was sudden and unexpected. She had a blood clot that stopped her heart in the middle of the night. She was my childhood dog. Seeing this little baby reminded me so much of bringing her home 10 years ago. Needless to say this made me bawl like a baby.

I just lost my little prince 👑 2 days ago Was 12 years old, I’m totally devastated and sad and yes crying 😭 A part of my soul went with him! He was totally devoted to me and I to him. Awww - So sorry for your loss! We had a sheltie who was so spoiled. She had just turned 12 and one min. fine the next sick. Rushed her to the ER vet - we had just picked her up at the groomer she was fine. We had dinner and that's when I noticed the change. Wouldn't come when called, refused to eat and was shaking. I had a hunch that she was dying. Was told she was treatable at the ER vet. Told to leave her for overnight treatment. Picked her up the next day early am said she was ready to go home. The next day she died - our vet couldn't find anything wrong in the blood work.

So sorry about your and the others here loss :( My last Sheltie also had kidney failure. We had to give her daily fluid treatments for almost a year and she got better until the last couple of weeks of her life and the last couple of days was so horrible that for the first time in around 30 years I would not get another dog. I hadn't even gone one day without a dog in 30 years. Two years later I gave in and got another Sheltie when she was 3 months old. She will be 14 this year and I can't even begin to say how much I am worrying about when I have to go through it again. It never gets any easier and in fact it gets harder for me.

My Casey just passed a few weeks ago. He was great. The next day my vet called with her condolences. Also asked if we could rescue a 6mo sable sheltie. Heart broken from losing Casey but we said yes. This little guy is so sweet. He didn’t replace Casey but filled a void in our lives. I feel like we saved a life as we lost one.

I got a sheltie puppy the summer after my mom and step dad split. I remember getting him just going into Atwood's with my papa to get chicks and there was a PAWs community day and this puppy was sitting in the kennel still with the door open and my papa stopped to look at a pit and the little lonely sheltie puppy barely 10 weeks old came running up and straight into the gate in front of me and the women saw him and started laughing my papa asked her why and apparently he hadn't left the kennel all day and they had been there for 5 hours. He is almost 7 years old and he has been with me through so much. My parents splitting, so many wonderful people I loved passing, my graduation, and moving on to my second year of college he has been with me through every up down and twist and turn and I wouldnt trade him for the world hes my shelly cooper and I love him.

The hardest part of getting a new dog is knowing they will most likely die before you do. I don't know that I'd be ready to deal with that kind of pain again, but I want one so bad. I just lost mine last October after 18 years.

Furthermore, their personalities are recognizable by this time. For instance some shelties are more nervous, or more constantly in motion than others. A calm, sweet sheltie, that still enjoys a good run and playing with a ball, suits my personality and lifestyle. Ask about health, behavioral issues and personality, if they aren't offered. My first adoption was of an 11 year old sheltie. My current sheltie was adopted at the age of 6, and she will be 18 on May 15th.

This was such a beautiful video. I lost my precious Sadie only three months ago. My wonderful sable Sheltie girl was only 10.5 years old. She had a hemangiosarcoma rupture in her spleen while she was just walking around at home one evening. According to the emergency vet, surgery does very little good. It might give a dog a couple extra months. But those extra months could be very painful. So, I was totally unprepared to say goodbye - but I would NEVER let her suffer. As far as I knew she had always been a very healthy dog. I just decided today to adopt another Sheltie. She's a Sheltie puppy I found online who looks very much like the puppy in this video - who looks very much like my Sadie did when she was a puppy. Of the dog's I've had in my life, all of whom I loved you dearly, my Sadie really was special. I'll be picking up my little Jenny in a few days. I can hardly wait. They really are very precious and special companions. I hate to call my dogs pets. I feel that they take care of me in their own way just like I take care of them in my way. I've always given my dogs and cats the best food and care and so much TLC. So, to lose Sadie at an age I considered to be far too young, truly broke my heart. All we can do is to treasure the past and take care of those animals who are here in need our love and care. But, it still takes a long time get over the loss of any person or animal you love. I believe love is eternal.

Never seen a black and white in UK, though I know there are some over here. I can't think of a sweeter puppy than a sheltie, their coats are like swansdown. I now have two males. Brothers from the same litter. Had to take Mom's in as she was unable to keep up. My boys are constantly sticking up for one another. They argue with me when they think I am not paying enough attention to one of them. One insists that I pay attention to the other and versa. Blessings.

I’ve come to learn that if you have an older sheltie around like 10 or 11 and you want to get another puppy, I would recommend getting 2 puppies from the breeder. That’s what my family did. We had to put our one sheltie down 5 years ago and it still breaks my heart, and his sister was lonely and depressed and she was only 8 years old. A few months later we got our 2 shelties we have now, originally my dad wanted to get one but then thought that when our Josie girl passes the one will be lonely. So my parents came home in April of 2015 with 2 new 9 week old shelties and then our Josie passed away the following September. September 21st, 2016 is when she passed in my moms arms, the night before her 12th birthday. So i would recommend getting not just getting 1. It does make difference in your dogs life

I have a Collie puppy but I also love Sheltie's, they are normally just a little bit shy so good for 1 or 2 people while Collies just want to be everybody's friend like Lassie
