Brooke- as a former New Yorker, my advice is to get a fold-up “granny cart” for groceries. Seriously. And you should be able to store it under your bed or hang on the inside of a closet door with command hooks. I know they look goofy but once you have one, you can’t go back!
@kristinamarkovic6574 жыл бұрын
YES, Michelle Reed also used those when living in NYC!

Lots of good options on Amazon. I have one (don’t live in the city, but my garage was eleventy miles from my apartment) and it saves me multiple trips & keeps me from dropping things.

ok I know everyone in the comments is saying to get a little cart, and I kinda get that.... BUT as someone who has lived alone in the city for almost 9 years, I've found that only buying what I can carry in like 2 or 3 shopping bags actually helps me to not waste food.... I used to do "full" grocery shops and ended up throwing a lot away because you don't end up eating it, or it expires being only one person... so only buying what I can carry has really helped over the years financially!! just my 2 cents :)

How do you carry bulk stock ups on staples?
@reginatheresa1994 жыл бұрын
I agree! I don’t know anyone in NYC who does huge trips because it’s not practical and most of us don’t cook every meal.
@nicole-su8dl4 жыл бұрын
yes! i live in SF and generally just buy one bag of groceries at a time. if i missed something i’ll just go back to the store for a second trip later in the week. as a single person you really don’t go through that much food though
@nicole-su8dl4 жыл бұрын
K C i personally don’t have to buy in bulk - if i get rice it’s usually a 2-5 lb bag. a lot of people don’t stock up either because space is tight

If you're doing a small trip a backpack helps a lot to carry heavy items. Also a fold up cart is what a lot of us locals use. It's super convenient especially if you need bulkier products. One of those can usually fit 3-4 decent sized grocery bags :)

I love how real your vlogs are Brooke - you're still relatable even though you're an "influencer" and I love that! Also, for cooking what I've found works for me is to just look up recipes on pinterest that take less than 30 minutes or so and plan out all my recipes before I go to the grocery store - so I'll add all the ingredients to my list and have all my dinners for the next week or whatever planned out and then I have everything I need and have no excuse to not try the recipe! I find if I don't plan like that and just buy random things to make meals from I always end up ordering food instead

When I lived in New York I would make HUGE grocery purchases just because I was so excited about everything all the time and then I would carry the bags in parts - walk a bit, leave half the bags; return a few feet back for the other half and walk them further, and so on ;D it was definitely a hilarious scene to see (especially with trying to keep an eye on the bags staying safe) but it was so much fun! And it kept happening EVERY.Single.Time. Love and happiness to everyone!!!🧡

My routine has been non existent lately. Thanks for the inspiration. I was planning on moving to my own apartment instead of having roommates or living with my mom but then everything changed. I still thought I would do it soon but I was a bartender and it’s hitting me that I’m not going to be able to make as much money as I was before. I’m coming to terms with staying where I am now so I am living vicariously through you and your apartment. I have to remind myself that being somewhere else won’t change who I am. Having my own apartment won’t turn me into this productive person who goes to bed early and gets up in the morning but I can start those habits right now living in my moms basement.

granny cart life saver, also, as a lot of girls are saying here, buy what you need, and just go to your close grocery store, depends on where youre at, you can find these "chain" grocery stores for organic stuff, why cause you will be going in and out of your house a lot and thats how you "stock up" on things that you miss for the week, stock when you go out.... also if you want to continue doing the trader joes trips, youre someone that can get an uber, just do it, idk where youre living but for trader joes are always semi-far yes depends where youre at, like uber back home... and just make it a big one trip for trader joes. Whole Foods you can find more in the city and maybe close to you, whole foods its a weekly trip too.

So I asked Friends for recipes and idea got a cook book from Marshall’s to just keep track and Wright them down and each week before I went shopping I made sure to wright down the meals I was going to make and buy hay was needed that way nothing went to waste! When I lived in Chicago I carried an empty backpack and would use a couple reusable bags. I’d put my keys, wallet, and hand sanitizer in my backpack so I didn’t have to carry a crossbody too. The reusable bags are so much easier to carry since you can just hold it up in your shoulder. Makes it so much easier to carry a larger grocery haul!!

My family and I live in NYC and we go to the grocery store once a week. When we go grocery shopping, we normally take a cab back from the grocery store. But, this really only works because we have a doorman so they can help us bring the bags in. But, for my friends that don't have a doorman, they go multiple times a week to just get what they need versus a big stock up

I think a lot of people have been suggesting a cart, but also maybe consider budgeting for the Uber/taxi for a big shop once or twice a month for a big stock up (if your comfortable with that) or if they have it in NYC instacart to send it straight to your building. Although I’m sure that once you have enough stocked that it could just be the every couple day shops to get fresh things but figured I’d throw those ideas out, especially when it comes to the point we’re the weather is rough in the winter
