When I stopped at the one in Barstow an elderly man saw me taking photos indoors and he approached me and shook my hand and introduced himself. Turns out he was the founder of Del Taco ! Took a photo together.

Each time I-40 traffic was visible in your videos, I was reminded of the many trips I made from Pennsylvania, through Memphis to the Bay Area and back again. Since I was a Road Warrior, chewing up the asphalt as fast as I could, I didn't have the opportunity to take a few hours and stray a couple miles off the beaten path and explore the sights as you do.

I was there in 1964, was in high school. This first street location bore a lot of similarity to the building in Yermo. The food was absolutely legendary, something about their combination of ingredients and the spices was flat out the most satisfying food ever. The refried beans in a paper cup and topped with shred cheddar cheese, the taco burger was to die for, the meat burrito was awesome and the tacos were just irresistible. I moved away in 1973 and have never had as good a food since.
@davidbrainerd6539 Жыл бұрын
I was also in Barstow then. Dad used to get tacos from Tao Tia before they became Del Taco! Was in the first high school class(1967) of John F . Kennedy High School. Moved away after graduation.

@@davidbrainerd6539 I don't bring up a memory of the face but I do remember the name David Brainerd! I enjoyed this road trip very much. Natalie was a nice addition. I have lived in SoCal my entire (long) life. I've been a huge fan of Huell Howser since the early eighties (miss him so much). I have learned about so many interesting places in my own home state through him, and have often wondered if Adam's work was influenced by him. I see similarities. Of course, I'm now a big fan of Adam The Woo as well. As was said, there are countless places to get tacos in California, and some are truly amazing. I wouldn't place Del Taco at the top. But when smothered with their "Del Scorcho" sauce they do make a tasty snack.
