Thank y'all for introducing me to The Perishing! I concur with y'all's criticisms of it, but also with the 5-star conclusion. I was especially blown away by teeny tiny chapter eight. It felt like an incredibly profound meditation on the importance of prioritizing joy even amid the eternal struggle against marginalization. She's telling us that we must make space for loves and joys not *just* for our own wellbeing, but we must do this visibly enough to support each other. Pride as an intentional choice. Pride as a radical act. "At worse, their wrong conclusions and attacks are because you threw your pearls to pigs. Throw them anyway. "Throw them if they can help somebody else who's losing hope and being slain, boxed, and labeled by the Limited. [...] "So fling your pearls high and wild so they can come down hard and stay for another who needs to hear from you, who needs to survive too. Then brace yourself. You'll be impacted. The backlash won't feel good, but the process that opens the door to another person's freedom rarely ends in orgasm. It's just the right thing to do."

I am interested in reading Daughters of Oduma. I had no idea it will be a series, but it makes me more intrigued. I know y'all will love The Lies of the Ajungo. The world is rich with some violent action scenes and will be a part of a series as well. It is a very short novella, but worth y'all's time nonetheless.

I must be confused about the definition of "charming protagonist" because the book I'm reading right now has a protagonist who doesn't try to be "charming" in any capacity and I think she's great and wish I could be her best friend. Charming enough by my definition, since I think anyone I want to be friends with is charming. But the character that most people would call "charming" is probably the grandma who bakes a lot. I'm glad that you were able to DNF a book that wasn't keeping you engaged. You don't need to waste your time! PS- I wish I could help eat your mom's delicious looking food. Hope your stomach felt better enough that you could have some leftovers. You're ability to drink Red Bull on a queasy stomach impresses me.
