My final thoughts on all of this. I'm overall really happy with how (most) of the car performed. All the stuff I cobbled together pretending I could fabricate worked very well. The engine and transmission mounts, driveshaft, all the wiring, radiator pieces, fuel system, tuning, etc. All worked great. Really the only thing that broke was literally the only thing I didn't touch, which was inside the engine. I will have the car back together and better than ever as soon as I can. I already miss being behind the wheel.

I know you mentioned it, but Accusump is really the budget answer. Finnegan learned this lesson with his Firebird, if you've seen the One Lap of America episodes of Roadkill. I know you checked over the valvetrain, but early 4.8/5.3 were known for the roller wheels shattering on lifters. You'd probably see needle bearings in the pan though. Solution = Used LS1 or LS6 cam (or Elgin 1838P), "LS7" lifters, LS6 Valve springs. Horsepower TV covered the topic in their budget 4.8 build years ago, I think. Literally watched every episode while building my Volvo for Hyperfest. Congrats on getting it driving! And best of luck to getting it back to the track asap.
@FullySpooled5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting! I am definitely planning a cam and updated valvetrain in the future. This is a 2004 engine, so I'm not sure if that is early enough to have those issues. There is definitely enough metal in the oil to warrant pulling the engine and far too much to be a broken lifter. Plus the fact that it's all non-ferrous filings helps point towards a spun bearing or two. I've been waiting for my back to heal over the past month, but I will be tearing the engine apart soon to find out.

Hey mate great videos, been watching a few of yours now. I stumbled on your channel looking how to fit and adjust a slave cylinder for the T56, as I'm currently starting to do a LS1/T56 swap on my Datsun 260z resto project. Just mainly wanted to comment that wow, I'm surprised at the prices for LS's. I always thought in the land of the Free LS1's can be had for $500 each, as many other KZbin channels seem to make you believe, the endless sea, and rows of rows of $500 LS motors to pull out of the junkyard. Here in Australia we are paying $2700-$3100 USD for a LS1 with high km's, and that's off facebook marketplace, dealing with a average joe. a Junkyard will ask $7000 USD for a LS1/T56 pulled from a car. Everything is expensive as here, and shipping kills us for parts from the US (I paid $65 US for a pair of shocks through summit, then paid $150 US for postage!) Its refreshing to see that the prices are expensive over there too. So I don't get it, which LS's are these $500 killer deals? the cast iron truck LS's?? Keen to see ya get the motor fixed! Rudi.

Sucks to see, if I had to guess, the engine sitting for a few years probably has something to do with it. @@FullySpooled I can't recall the brand, but a buddy of mine had this happen as well when a different aftermarket baffled setup wasn't sufficient. I will find out and get back to you. Btw, I have been following your build since day one, I too had a SC300 in the same color (factory 5spd) but sold it shortly after purchasing because Lexus discontinued 80% of the oem parts to do a proper restoration. Keep up the good work, your car is going to be a beast!

SnglTrbo 2JZ thanks man. Always nice to see people still watching after all this time. I was hoping the baffle would help, but it’s clear that the engine needs more support with oiling than that. Some local guys are using bigger sump pans with an accusump and seem to be reliable.

@@FullySpooled on a separate note, how do you like the T56 Magnum? It has become the transmission of choice for SC/Supra builds nowadays, and it's always nice to hear real world experience/feedback from folks who have had time to use them.

I spun a bearing in 10 minutes after rebuilding my 2jz

Just go to a junkyard

I wish junkyards near me carried newer vehicles. Any car with an engine worth anything in SoCal gets stripped by the yard workers and the parts are sold for a ton of money.

Sucks just go 1jz vvti or 2jz

Savage Gaijin I thought about it, but those engines are 2-3 times the cost of an LS. Then adding the cost of a new clutch, mounts, engine management, etc and I’m easily in the $6,000-$7,000 range for a stock jz engine.

Jesus Christ you’ve never even tried to slide it a little bit in the Home Depot parking lot or punched it going around a corner in your neighborhood? I’m gonna be honest all these videos are pretty painful to watch I kind of think you should put a for sale sign on that thing and get yourself a nice minivan it really seems like that’s more your speed bud
