I agree had these ,cosworths ,R5 turbos they are totally different to modern machines I don't always believe these massive horsepower golfs I dove a BMW with a quoted 600 did not feel it

A lot of it I think is to do with driver aids like traction control etc kills the power plus modern cars are heavy I remember pushing my rs6 when it broke down was crazy heavy.

Totally agree mate, I had a 330bhp pulsar and it was electric to drive. These old cars have a proper feel to them, something a modern car with huge power lacks. To much technological influence over them and too refined to be exciting.

Back in 92’ my mate had a convertible RS Turbo in Imperial Blue with black leather. He had an uprated intercooler and a Superchips ECU tune. It was the shit and it turned many heads. Another mate transferred the full running gear from an RS Turbo write-off (engine/gearbox/diff/suspension/brakes/wheels/body-kit/interior) onto an Escort van. Repainted it in Mallard green and installed a couple 15” Pro-Plus subs in the back. Even though I’ve always been a VAG boy, I really really liked that RS Turbo van. I thought it was the coolest means of transport I’d ever seen!

Everyone thought the timing gear was gubbed on that one super fast 1/4 mile run as it was never replicated, can you clear that up all these years later? I used to have a grey series two, was operating on a student budget building it myself. Eventually saw 206@the wheels and 150mph. The Severn valley boys were always that bit faster :). Cheers

Had one back in 09 loved it . The ones left now are mint compared to back then . Rust would fall from the sunroof when you hit a pothole and my feet were always in 2" of water 😂

I had one in white similar spec around 20 years ago, it was one of the fastest in the UK at the time, built by Jamsport, was 2.1 zvh, GT30, omex etc, was 315hp and mad fast back then.

reasonatley sold my 320 bhp vrs Frontwheel drive mk1 . powerful FRs old school we grew up racing Mk2 escorts and ford Capris {bags of Nails glued together} and minis when the french started to hit us with R5 and 205 gtis and VW golf we all went Nuts mush. they glued to the road with what we all had Ford retaliated with the XR series and the Prima Octavia Gloriania the mighty RS escort ... fluck me just creamed me pants lol... great car

Back in the early 90’s I had a series 1 and a series 2 both tuned by Collins Performance to around 195 Bhp . My favourite was the series 1 , fantastic drivers car , miss it and wish I still had it 😢

My RS Turbo was, for 10 years, the fastest in the world with the original 1600CVH engine. First in the world to pass 160mph and 170mph officially timed by Performance Ford. It had a dyno-proven 350bhp from 1600cc's and 8-valves, but with modern mappable ECU and some great engineering. Videos of it on my channel, but you'll have to dig!

I once had to pick up a work van which had been sat outside a body shop for months, there was large webs around the roof and about 20 small baby spiders spread around the cab on windows, dash etc.. I dumped the van on motorway hard shoulder when they started moving around on way back and the mommy spider crawled out from behind roof lining hanging on a web. Got in loads of trouble with my company and police for dumping it and walking off 😂

IV had two xr3i s and they're nice cars but the mk 4 turbo I remember had horrible torque steer but that looks nice and they do like to rust around back window rubber and arches and around petrol cap , they were a brilliant cheap run about
