One of the better interviews I`ve seen. Big thanks. He wasn`t bombarded with dull questions relating to movies from his books and was given a chance to speak. Would like to hear him talk about something other than writing one day. Like what baseball player does he hate, does he watch reality shows..etc.

(RIP) Mr. Leonard "52 Pick-Up" was a great hard-boiled story.

I agree with you and the person you quoted. When I was going to film school, I went for directing but writing inevitably was thrust upon me as well as producing (to get things started, financed and done). I learned that if you wanted to direct starting out you should write your own material. All I can say is you're correct, it does suck a persons' soul. What you put on paper is like expressions from the soul. Actors think they have it bad but, they forget about the ones who wrote everything.

He says his first female lead character is "one or two books away"- that would end up being Jackie Burke in Rum Punch, who Tarantino filmed as Jackie Brown!
