I was bitten by a baby squirrel when I was about eight years old. It was in a tree, "frozen" the way squirrels get, and I thought he'd be OK with being petted. He wasn't. He sank his little fangs into me but good. I had to get a tetanus shot. If a mother squirrel saw their baby being messed with, she would be within her natural rights to attack you. I realize now you've got to be careful. Acclimating wildlife to humans is bad for them as well as you. They lose their fear, and not everyone has good motives.

We weren’t sure what the sneezing sounds meant, he was most likely afraid and nervous until he let me pet his head a bit. Then he seemed to warm up to me and once climbed into my hands, I couldn’t resist. We did leave him alone for most of the first day, but his mom never came back to get him, even when he cried out for her and we even played baby squirrel noises on our phone to lure her back. Didn’t work so we took care of him the first week inside and set up a nest in the shed for him the second week.

So far, watching so many squirrels on KZbin, this is the first sensible man warning not to touch, hug, pet, kiss squirrels (even though the woman with him being stubborn) Not only They are source of diseases but we might also pass germes to them. I’ve also seen so many people assuming their mom not in the area and deciding to “rescue”them and taking home... but not with this wise man.

Yeah, unless you intend on keeping it as a pet, and they make lousy pets, people need to stop doing this stuff on KZbin, cuddling, kissing, letting the whole neighborhood handle them, even talking to them, isn't advised. You find abandoned baby, you keep it in a box, only one person handles it, and ONLY when feeding. No talking, kissing, cuddling. They let them go and they have no fear, end up being like a good kid having to live in a ghetto. They go up to the first squirrel (or person, in ghetto), thinking they're friendly and get their eyes scratched out and their tails bit off, (or sucker punched and robbed, if a kid in the ghetto).
@sagebear9739Ай бұрын
I dont think disease is too much of a worry with squirrels i dont know anything humans can pass to them and theres only a few concerning things they can pass to humans but especially with one this young I think its even less likely itd be carrying anything. Only real worry would be with a bite I think, rodent bites can cause nasty infections since theyre usually puncture wounds. Still should avoid handling them tho especially if moms around, wildlife is usually pretty stressed out by human contact like this and it mightve been causing mom to hesitate with coming to retrieve the baby.

@josephwisniewski36733 жыл бұрын
Read their summary: they did give it an acceptable formula, not milk, kept it fed, brought it indoors until it was old enough for an outdoor nest, and safe for months. Your sentiments are good, but "milk" in a dropper would also be an unpleasant death. Wrong species, wrong sugar, fat, and vitamin contents, and, of course, the need to stimulate a young rodent into urinating after feeding it. Proper formula and a little knowledge goes a long way.

This happens very, very frequently as the mothers do not waste their time and resources on them. Seldom do baby or very young squirrels fall from their nest, they are tossed.

This played out like a horror movie with all the coaxing to be careful and the panning over to see where the mother is. The moms are usually as afraid of us as we are of them, but they don't trust hawks and other known predators. They can have fleas, but not rabies. They can sense that a soothing voice means that there's no danger. I feel they fear us, because we are a mystery to them, since not too many humans bother to interact with them.
