in case people are wondering why it's 8.9m instead of 9m, at 34:59 the game miscalculates the score of the single clear and displays 100k more than it should

I think Adrien wu ended up finding where the bug was in gym code. The true score still exists but the way it's converted to BCD to display it is scuffed. When true score increases to 8M it always makes a 100k error. There are a few other places. It is getting fixed now, Andy being the first person to score enough to notice

I remember when - even though rolling was already well established - reaching colours was basically just a concept. Theoretically possible, but far out of reach. And here we are, 3 people have crashed the game, and are stacking for tetrisses ON COLOURS, while also casually talking meanwhile. Absolutely unreal times we live in, huge congratulations to this insane score Andy!

@@jakebrowning2373 nothing more than being the highest ever to score a Tetris on it. This might be also the first Tetris on glitched colours. I have noted tetrises of other players on line 130x. This one is 1378. It's noteworthy to be recorded.

@@omerkenan6148 when a game genie code is used to uncap the score the score gets counted as a letter instead of the 6th digit: A➡️10, B➡️11 etc. Meaning A02000=1 002 000. Only the letters A, B, C, D, E, and F is used so when the score goes to 1,6 million the score “rolls over” and restarts at 0.

@@omerkenan6148 the first digit of the scroe count is hexadeicmal meaning it has 16 digits. a rollover is when someone gets enough points (1.6 million) for the score to rollover from the highest digit(F) back to the lowest digit(0). Thus every rollover equals 1.6 million points and to achieve this score of over 8 million andy had to rollover 5 times.

Single is 40, Double is 100, Triple is 300, and Tetris is 1200. Multiplier is (Level + 1)

So, for anyone that doesn't want to do the calculation, a Tetris at level 148 (Charcoal, where he topped out) would be worth 1200*149=178,800 points. That's why the world record tends to jump by such large amounts these days - if you are Tetrising at these high levels the score grows crazily fast (from level 139 onwards, you only need six tetrises to score 1 million, compared to the 42 you need on level 19).

Who can break the 10 million point barrier? The high score table is meant to hold 6 digits in the vanilla. Tetris Gym's high score table is meant to hold 7 digits, but can display up to 9 digits. These extra digits push the lines counter and the starting level to the right. Tetris Gym's high score table's lines is meant to hold 3 digits, but can display up to 5 digits. These extra digits push the starting level to the right. An AI got it all the way to 100 million and then some. A TAS started at level 0 and ended at level 0 after clearing 3,360 lines. Starting at levels 15 thru 24 requires 3,300 lines to reach the rebirth screen.

Blue scutti (the 13 year old kid) reached level 157, which is the furthest someone has gone for now in terms of lines cleared (you go up a level every 10 lines) and got a score of 6.8m on his game. Although Andy reached level 148, he got a score of 8.9m because he got more lines cleared at once (double, triples, tetrises) so its a score WR compared to the level WR, which Blue scutti still holds and which will only remain possible to beat up until the very last level at 255. There is a lot of world records you can get in Original Tetris for different things, so the game in some way is still far from "beaten" like many media and news station erroneously portrayed

Pretty simple: score record vs. level record. “That kid from the news”, BlueScuti, got the highest level so far, and PixelAndy just got the new score record. You can get the score record without getting the level record by playing more aggressively: clearing larger lines simultaneously, instead of just “staying alive”.

Can someone help explain to a noob how to read the fucked up scoring? I don’t need to know “why” it gets messed up - just how to read it. It switches from alphanumeric, to just numeric, back to alphanumeric and I’m totally lost lol. Do you need to be following along the whole time so that you know how many “switches” it has done?
