First 10 years of operational service in the F-14A saw 79 crashes/airframe losses with 19 fatalities, which was surprisingly-low. F-35A in 18yrs: 4 write offs, 1 fatality in Japan F-35B in 16yrs: 6 write-offs, 0 fatalities F-35C in 15yrs: 1, 0 fatalities For Fleet Defense, the F-35C brings capabilities the F-14 could only dream of, as several F-14D systems development guys were involved in JSF. F-35C actually has longer legs than a 2-tank Tomcat with GE motors, vastly-superior sensors and SA, plus ISR capability that covers into maritime patrol and ASW territory. I was a fighter jet crew chief in the USAF from Aug. 1974- Aug 1980. I crewed the iconic and legendary F-4 Phantom jet first at Holloman AFB NM and then Osan AB S Korea. When I left Holloman in Aug. 1976 I was sent to Osan, Holloman got the F-15 the following year. When I left Osan after a year there, they got the F-15 the next year. I kept missing getting the chance to crew the F-15. I was sent to England AFB after my tour at Osan and I was with the Flying Tigers. We had A-7D Corsairs. Just before being discharged in Aug. 1980 I was in charge of the end of the runway crew. My job was to do the last inspection on the A-7D at the end of the runway and make sure it was air worthy. If it was I would give the thumbs up to my two weapons mechanics to arm the jet. One morning there were two F-15 sitting underneath the tower. The tail letters were HO. Holloman my first yard. Needless to say I got all pumped up and told my four weapons mechanics that I was going to have the F-15's put on show for us when they took off so be ready. When they started taxing towards us at the end of the runway i stepped out of our shack and started jumping up and down while moving my right arm in a motion letting the pilots know that I wanted to see a 90 degree take off. As they taxied by us the first pilot ignored me and the second looked at me, saluted me and gave me a thumbs up. They parked at the end of the runway side by side. The first one wound the TF100 engines up and put it into afterburner which by the way they do not need to take off so I knew he was going to do the 90 degree take off. Wheels started to come up just before the first 1K foot marker. He held all the way down the 12k runway about 100 feet off the runway, turned and then went straight up!!!!! I could not believe my eyes. Plus it happened to be a clear sky morning. No clouds perfect day for it. Took my eye off of one to see two do the same thing. after that I tried to get back to one but lost sight of them both, could only hear the roar off the engines. I went up in an F-4 at Holloman. That's the photo you see of me. Would have loved to have had the chance to go up in the Eagle.

My buddy currently flies the F15. I asked him "so do you get to break the sound barrier or do loops and barrel rolls whenever you want?" He replied, "we have a big block of controlled airspace out over the ocean and whenever we go for training I get to do pretty much whatever I want to so I break the sound barrier all the time and do a bunch of other tricks." I was so jealous. In highschool he had his pilots license before he turned 16 and whenever we went to parties and got drunk he was always the dude that may have a beer but he never got smashed or smoked cigarettes. We pretty much knew he was going to be doing great things and be some kind of leader somewhere and he is super smart. Ended up going to Embry Riddle and graduated and then was working for a private airline that flew wealthy people and out of nowhere the company went bankrupt and he was out of a job. He decided to go fly for the Air Force and is now the Commanding officer of a F15 squadron. Everyone is so proud of him. I wish I had his smarts. I got to sit in a F18 after it warmed up and started and it was just luck because I happened to be on the flight line at a F18 squadron and had I knew how to shut the canopy....I may have tried to fly. Probably not but a guy can dream. I love the F-15 and we really didn't need the F-22. The F35 VTOL Marine Variant was needed because the Harrier was aging and not even US and getting parts was harder and harder. As a Marine on deployment I spoke to a Harrier pilot and he told me the Harrier could be the fastest fighter in the world because the giant engine the thing had but he said the airframe wasn't built for speed like that. I don't know how true it was but I'm sure it could have been extremely fast. I got to watch them take off and land via hovering onboard the USS BONHOMME RICHARD for 9 months at the beginning of Afghanistan. It was cool to watch them land. I also didn't know they required 250 gallons of water because the engine got so hot during hover that it was used to cool it down. The F35 can hover without having water due to technology and new engineering practices. Anyway that's my story

@@JohnDPaganI flew in a C130 several times and it was a good bird. Only thing it needs is the cargo area/troop area to have good air conditioning because the worst ride i had was flying from Ali As Salem Airbase in Kuwait to a expedition airfield in Iraq in the summer wearing full gear and full pack and MOPP suit and it was hotter than a coal diggers butt in the Sahara desert. We were soaked in sweat from head to toe and we were going to be somewhere that didn't have showers and it ended up being 28 days before we got rotated and back to a cold shower. The filth that washed off us was astounding. Our baby wipes had ran out on day 16 and they only get so much dirt off. I also had the worst chaffing I've ever had. Could almost see groin tendons. Infected and all. Took months to fully heal. C130 was super agile though. On the way up they started banking hard and it was because a RPG was shot at us. Our trail bird took bullet hits and had to turn back because they were slowly losing hydraulics.

If those dummy missiles are weight-representative of the AMRAAM, that demo was even more impressive! An Iraqi MiG-25 hit a US F-15 with a radar-guided missile, and before that a Syrian Mig-21 hit an Israeli F-15 with a heat-seaking missile, but in both instances the F-15 was able to return to base. So those weren't exactly "wins" for the F-15, but they weren't "kills" either.

Well shot, high quality video with great sound. Did anyone else notice the slight flutter in the vertical stabilizers right as it was going into the tail slide? I've seen it before in other videos of this plane as well.

Amazing how very dangerous and lethal a fighter jet looks when armed.

Does that aircraft have moveable exhaust nozzles?
@MrSchwabentier6 ай бұрын
no. Just the classic variable size, but not vectoring

With the addition of GE 110 engines, the airplane is finally all that it was designed to be! Note that the exhaust nozzle outer flaps are on and they stay on.
