I think there were a couple things happening for you when you switched to the Ned. That fast water is Hellgrammite territory. I bet those smallies were keying in them and your Ned mimicked one fighting the current perfectly. The low water has smallies looking for oxygen and a riffle has the most.

Feel the same about the ned rig. I use Eagle Claw hooks with the weed guard and weighted.

High water temp is not your friend. Usually late afternoon early evening the bite turns up on the Raritan.

Definitely not a very productive start. But it did improve. The carp would not have been my fish of choice to end with but he did make it a challenge! So all in all a pretty good day 👍

I don’t think that’s right they can come and just kick you out per say. I keep fishing the raritan river in Edison/highland park and never catch anything but I’m not giving up I need to get more assortment of baits.

No one kicked me out, I just left. Didn't want to deal. Besides, it worked out in the end.
