Everybody using the same grip I see. Middle, ring, little finger in the lever and pointer on thtrigger pulle trigger, thumb on side rather than over the stock per sharp instruction, a need for speed, and that works no doubt. Some on the line looked a little uncomfortable with the motions & dexterity of that particular grip. Stay with me now, fun gun for sure and do examine the mechanics of an alternate grip and trigger pull. Just try it and see it. Place the lever in the palm of your hand, curl all your fingers inside the lever into a fist, keep your thumb outside the lever; now jack that lever then put your thumb on the trigger. For this described alternate mechanics some enthusiasts could very well find it to be rather accommodating. It is fun, absolutely.

Noticed a lot of the participants had a bit of difficulty with the “not wrapping the thumb around to save time” thing. Also would be interesting to see the old “Rifleman” TV show trick of locking down the trigger, so it will fire as soon as the lever returns to home position. He could fire very fast with that but it looked like it was all done from the hip so I don’t know how accurate the groupings would’ve been (if live rounds would’ve been used since it was a tv show they obviously fired blanks)

@zerrodefex2 жыл бұрын
Historically yes but this wasn't a cowboy action shooting class or event. Also I honestly would not put my higher power 44 magnum handloads in my revolver, I tried once and not only was the recoil not fun but I risked damaging the revolver while the rifle is built to take those heavy loads. Also a lot of those shooters were doing rifle cartridges like 30-30 and 45-70 which you're not going to realistically find a revolver for anyway. Lever rifles were made for more than just pistol cartridges.

I am not a .30-30 fan by a long shot. But, I think of the .30-30 as a hunting round and not a tactical round. For tactical purposes the .30-30 appears to be a pretty good choice. Some people think the .45-70 would be better but the recoil could/would defeat the tactical edge and aim point effectiveness. The pistol caliber bullets or even the rifle loading of the .357 mag would be very effective but may lack needed ballistics. I keep hearing that the .350 Legend should be chambered in a lever action, but if you look at the ballistic charts this little stubby straight wall cartridge generates over 50,000 psi in most cases which is beyond the safe range for traditional lever action rifles. Personally, I would choose the .35 Remington for more power and penetration and lower recoil but ammo may be a problem. I load a .35 Rem round with 180 gr FNs moving out of the muzzle at 2400 fps, but there is no factory loading to duplicate this for a lot of tactical work. It may be a good time and reason to resurrect the good old .307 Winchester with a 150 RN cooking out of the barrel at over 2600 fps. Fun video. I hope the lever action tactical gains a ton of traction.

When the instructor showed how he keeps his thumb on the same side I immediately paused and grabbed my wife"s 18" Rossi and tried that style (empty and safe, of course) and thought "hell ya" I can do this. Now I just gotta get my own lever gun. I never saw so many "modern" levers as I saw in this vid. I will be shopping soon. Thanks for this great video. Edit here: I forgot to ask was Costa shooting a 45-70? The cartridges he carried made me think of that, but I'm not an expert. My wife's Rossi is .357 shooting my reloads at 1900+ fps, whereas the same does just under 1400 out of my 6.5" Taurus Tracker. I think 45-70 may be my lever gun in the future.
