PERFECT first tune for an intro to KG. VERY well played, Jen, whomever you are! Then again, I'm partial since it popped my Gizzardly cherry as well... I first heard this song a few years ago on a small college radio station around 1am as I drove home. As the song continued, static began as I approached the edge of the broadcast's (pretty limited) range. Rather than continuing home, I doubled back and drove in circles around the college until the tune (finally) ended. I immediately pulled up the rest of the album on my phone and kept driving aimlessly until it concluded. Pulling into my driveway over an hour later, I was more musically jazzed then I'd been in at least a year. (And I work in the music industry, so that really says something.) Crumbling Castle, Polygwandanaland, its partners in the absolutely unprecedentedly prolific year that was 2017, and indeed the entire KG ouvre is wonderfully strong, refreshing, and unique. In short... Welcome to the Gizzverse!

@@jennifer9047 Hey Jen. Quick note to say that I and my touring colleagues have met and spoken with members of many of the bands you follow (KG, Tool, Muse, etc), and every one of those musicians, at the least, doesn't care for, and at the most, absolutely hates Donald Trump, the new American Right, and modern conservative capitalism. You should maybe pay more attention to their lyrics, because they do not see the world the way you do. At all. Consider Infest the Rats Nest, an easy example. It is an overt call to environmental action and justice. Stu has spoken extensively about animal and ecological rights, and how baffled he and the band are by climate change deniers. Similarly, my bandmate had a great chat with Maynard and Danny a couple years ago about their support for the Green New Deal. Long and short, your politics and taste in music are at total odds. It's like when Paul Ryan said he was a big RAtM fan. The moment the band heard this, Tom said loudly and publicly, "Paul Ryan is the embodiment of the Machine our music rages against." Sorry not sorry, but it seems most of your favorite musicians consider your politics deplorable and don't want you among their fans.

The whole album this song opens (Polygondwanaland) is incredible. Especially the trilogy Inner Cell/Loyalty/Horology. If you want some more Gizzard to go to, that's what I would recommend.

My Favorite Band of all Time. 15 albums and a noteworthy EP in the 2010s. The Best Band of the 2010s hands down. So far for the 2020s, they released an album and 2 noteworthy live albums and they plan to release 3 more albums in 2021. With their momentum, they could easily release 20 albums this decade. The 20s started of rocky, but things sooner or later will start to look up.
@supperpuppy83 жыл бұрын
I had no idea they were going for 3 more albums this year
@elainecanby4123 жыл бұрын
@@supperpuppy8 They said they would try to release 3 albums in 2021. This was from one of their "Gizzymail" newsletters back in 2020. And since they only released one actual album in 2020 and they haven't been able to go touring as well, it makes sense with all the extra time they've had in the studio. From the reports I've read, the band plan on going back on tour in October 2021, but that could be rescheduled as well because of COVID. With how things are turning out, 2021 could be the second time they release 5 albums. The band themselves said they'd never do it again, but extraordinary circumstances have shifted the wheels of fate.

I find this like a progressive desert/stoner rock with a pinch of Tool, but with the sound rawness of 70's psychedelic rock, maybe some Steve Hillage vibe too.

Can’t recommend these songs enough: Billabong Valley - microtonal song with a western vibe. Unable to accurately depict how perfect this song is. It sneaks up on you, but it’s gorgeous. Digital Black - Grungey/progressive song with chugging power chords, eerie keyboards, and a narrative about a depressed cyborg with a desire to die and take the entire universe with him. Polygondwanaland/Castle in the Air/Deserted Dunes Welcome Weary Feet - A pseudo-suite of 3 songs that follow Crumbling Castle on the album. Great drumming and contrapuntal instrumental bits with great melodies. Self-Immolate/Hell - The closing two tracks of their thrash metal album. The only problem with either of these songs is that Hell needs to be about 5 minutes longer because the very ending is insane. Catching Smoke - The best song from their synth-pop album. One of the catchiest songs of all time, and the organic rhythm section mixed with synthetic melodies and pads helps it retain that King Gizzard secret sauce. The Wheel - Lowkey and jazzy, with melodies that creep right into you and feel like they were discovered rather than written. One of the best songs they’ve ever written. Muddy Water - a random incredibly catchy Celtic-style song done in a very King Gizzard fashion.

The way I look at it, these guys are so talented that it's hard to put into perspective. Just try imagine literally ANY artist that is played frequently on the radio. None of the would be able to play any KGLW song. Their standard of performance and song writing whilst also making the music super easy to listen to is completely unrivalled. Maybe I'm biased, but I don't care they're incredible.
