I'm really hoping that Andor goes more into this topic. Legends touched on it very early on after the Original Trilogy ended. And it is the reason the New Republic was always so weak. Half their powers didn't want a Republic, especially the smugglers, pirates, and criminals the Rebellion relied upon so heavily. They expanded this during the Clone Wars era Legends content with the former CIS planets rejecting the New Republic.
@topnotchshinobi2 жыл бұрын
I’m also curious about the “Bad Batch” era of pre-rebellion factions (and how/why they fail to overcome the Empire): We’ve got… 1- Saw Gerrera’s Partisans, 2- Cham Syndulla’s “Free Ryloth” movement, 3- Rex’s budding “clone rebellion” (along with the aid of a handful of underworld characters such as the Martez sisters, and potentially the Bad Batch themselves) 4- Maul and Crimson Dawn
@tristankawatsuma89622 жыл бұрын
The likely reason is they never organized and were too small to make a major difference. Even if your Rebel Cell kicked the Imperials off your planet, they’ll just come back with reinforcements. After the Empire crushes the Separatist Holdouts, there isn’t a large foe to fight until the Rebellion is formed. As we hear in Star Wars Rebels, there never really was anything larger than a sector-wide Rebel Cell, like Phoenix Cell for the Lothal Sector. Not to mention in these early days, memories of the Clone Wars will be fresh. Cells made up of former Republic and Separatist soldiers and agents aren’t going to want to work together. The Separatists would see Republic Cells as wanting to return to the status quo that started everything in the first place. And the Republic will view Separatist cells as wanting to continue the evils of the Separatist Alliance. After all, why would the Partisans want to work with a Separatist cell after just years ago they were fighting against a Separatist occupation? Same thing for an Umbara Rebel Cell if they had to work with a Wookie Rebel Cell. Opposite sides.
@TheLastKentuckyIrregular95242 жыл бұрын
@@tristankawatsuma8962 In Legends, Mon Mothma did manage to wrangle the CIS and Republic adherents and convince them to work together. It was after the war that things went south as the CIS loyalists still wanted their independence and didn't support the rise of a New Republic. In older Legends materials this fractured framework resulted in a lot of autonomous and semi-autonomous systems and planets that agreed to follow certain laws of the New Republic but maintained their own militaries and taxes. That is how Thrawn was able to take over so much of the galaxy; he convinced those planets to pay tribute to him and leave the New Republic and he would honor their independence, something the New Republic wasn't doing a good job of.
@Interitus12 жыл бұрын
This was something that angered me it wasn't addressed in the Sequel trilogy. It makes sense for systems to be wary of joining the new Republic, fearing it may simply become a new Empire. But this is never addressed. Why is the New Republic so weak, the movies give us no answers.
@tristankawatsuma89622 жыл бұрын
@@Interitus1 Well in the case of Canon New Republic, the reason to not want to join is the fear that it would be just as weak as the Old Republic before the Clone Wars. That they would join and get nothing in return, that if they were attacked nobody would come to their aid. The New Republic itself was so scared of becoming like the Empire that it demilitarized itself soon after the war and ensured the position of chancellor was basically powerless. Understandable intentions, but terrible consequences for the galaxy.

The galactic civil war started unofficially in 4BBY, and officially in 2BBY, the war would not outbreak until the battle of scarif. Then the battle of yavin would mark the beginning of the end of the galactic empire. As for the early rebel units, many fans will remember when the kaminoans started a clone rebellion (in legends) with their anti-clone troopers, despite their efforts they were defeated by the 501st, under the command of boba fett.

I my opinion, the Galactic Civil War officially began in 2 BBY with some early major Alliance victories over Kamino and Fresia. Fresia in particular is where the Rebel Alliance got their hands on the newly created X-Wing and the blueprints for making more of them. If we’re going to talk about early resistance movements, I would like to add the Seperatist holdouts as an honorable mention. They continued to fight the Empire even after the death of the Separatist Council, but were eventually destroyed by 9 BBY.

I really like to see a Republic and Separatist cell work together. Seeing them discuss their issues between each other while trying to work together against the Empire. Separatists complain about how if it wasn’t for the Republic, none of this would have happened in the first place. The Republic cells complain about Separatist war crimes and how technically they never solved the problem as the megacorporations ran and controlled the military. Separatists complain that the corporations wouldn’t even have been so powerful if the Republic hadn’t ignored the Outer Rim members of the Republic, leaving them exposed to pirates and criminals. The Republic cells complain about how Grievous and the generals and admirals chosen by Dooku and the Separatist Council were just as brutal as the current Imperial officers. And back and forth and back and forth. It ironically almost seems like the Republic conducted itself better morally in wartime than it did in peacetime. For the Separatists, it might have been the opposite. Who knows?

Naboo is in a strangely unique position. On the one had, their former Senator is now the Chancellor and then Emporer. Making the planet important to Palpatine. On the other their Former Queen and then Senator was against the idea of the Empire. What we don't know is what the average person from Naboo felt. What's more interesting is the Empire's harsh treatment of aliens and the fact that the Gungan also live on Naboo.
@classical4872 Жыл бұрын
From what i know, Palpatine didn't care about Naboo at all. Now, i don't know if this was always the case or if there was some point in his life where he went from caring about his homeworld to not caring at all... but i imagine that if there was a certain point in his life, it would've been during his time as a sith apprentice with a test from Darth Plagueis.

Seems like at least some of the surviving Separatists would have a lot of experience improvising this sort of thing. I hope to see more of the clone rebellion Rex is forming. Of course given the footage in the Bad Batch Seasom 2 trailer, this Rebel cell will have many non-clones in it and might even form ties with the Partisans and Ryloth Rebels early. It would be interesting and kind of ironic though if it was this clone trooper Rebel cell that struck the first real blow to the Empire. Not just destroying some factory or mining complex on a planet, or even helping rebels escape like what the Mon Calamari fleet had to do in 18 BBY when the Empire took over their planet. I’m meaning like something that has repercussions that go all the way to the Original Trilogy. Perhaps they cripple Palpatine’s cloning operation, leading it to be moved to Exegol. Or perhaps they inspire planets across the galaxy to form small rebel cells. Nothing united like the Rebel Alliance, but a prelude to it. Or maybe they even eliminate a key Imperial. For all we know, Rampart has plans to ensure the Stormtrooper program takes care of the flaws we see later on. Perhaps the clone rebellion becomes the major reason why instead of just leaving clone troopers in the Imperial Military, Palpatine kicks most of them out onto the streets and in cruddy retirement homes. Granted, that would be a negative consequence of the Clone Rebels, but it would eliminate the most efficient soldiers in the Imperial Military.
@zeratul____12282 жыл бұрын
Actually we are already seeing some like this where the Clone Commando clones aren't teaching the Stormtroopers everything they know, in essence sabotaging the program so they can continue to justify their existence a bit longer. Also the destruction of the Kamino Cloning facilities will have sent a wave through the entire Clone army, with much like the destruction of Alderaan will inspire other Clones to rise up against the Empire. So we likely will see a small scale version of that happen with something important being destroyed/lost to the Empire. One thing I have always wanted to see is something I like to call "one last day in Grand Army of the Republic". Where the remnants of the Clone Army weary and battle wron wear their armour one last time in the service to the republic; to take back the Coruscant capital by taking the senate building. Burning away the Imperial banners and raising the symbol of the Republic.

@@zeratul____1228 As great as clones would be, there is no way they could liberate Coruscant at their age by that point. I mean, strike forces of men in their late sixties to mid-seventies crippling parts of the capital to allow a larger Rebel force to liberate the city planet? The baby clones-presuming the Empire evacuated them before destroying all Kaminoan cities, would be in bodies that are early-fifties. It's because of this old age thanks to the acceleration of their aging that most clones still alive didn't partake in the Rebellion despite being kicked out of the Empire by that point.

Just a note because it frustrates me how messed up all the KZbin channels covering star wars are clearly confused about the way the clones were organised. The GAR was made up of 20 sector armies led by a high ranking jedi or possibly a member of the galactic senate (though I know of no times where this is the case, it is feasible and would make up the numbers), but usually a member of the jedi council. Each sector army comprised of roughly 25-30 clone legions or 250,000+ personnel, each made up of approximately 9216 clones plus jedi (master) general, plus clone and non-clone Republic support staff and non-clone republic command; say 10,000+ personnel. Each legion was made up of 4 battalions; during the clone wars the 501st was a battalion it did not become a legion until the empire, easy battalion was made up of approximately 2304 clones plus 1 jedi (knight) general and possibly but not always a jedi (apprentice) commander, each battalion was then split into 4 divisions of approximately 576 clones plus support staff. Each division was either split into two regiments of 288 or 4 companies of 144, which were then divided into squadrons of 36 and teams of 9. Teams were led by a corporal, lieutenant or staff sergeant. The staff sergeant leads the squadron with 2 lieutenants and a corporal (plus 8 sergeants and 24 privates), companies or regiments were led by captains, and the division led by a commander, battalions likely had a Marshall, hence the legion having a Marshall commander to assist the jedi (master) general. This is not how every legion or battalion was organised but it is the general organisation structure the GAR was based on with variations when and wherever required, as is the nature of war.
@nicholasmartin7872 жыл бұрын
In addition to the above whenever "special task force" is used it is a good indication of variation. A task force can be any size it could be made up of multiple legions or even sector armies in extreme cases, or could be a group smaller that a team like clone force 99 (the bad batch) consisting of 4 men. Whereas anakin's special task force is a division/regiment/company, it may be fixed in size or could vary between, based on the animated show I would say it is either a company within the 501st battalion or referred to whoever was with him for a mission and would then vary, but Captain rex was clearly anakin's second after Ashoka so that indicates it was company to regiment size with appo leading the other half of the division. The 501st my have been a small battalion or a standard battalion made up of 2 large divisions, or at the end of the clone wars 2 of the battalion's divisions weren't mentioned they could have been the flight (naval) or support divisions. I hope this helps clear things up a little.
