Heading back from Westchester Airport to Hanscom Field, I have a much better flight. I started to get a real feel for how the plane behaves and it wasn't as challenging as the flight down. More 'traditional' lessons are coming up...stay tuned and subscribe!
If you haven't seen part 1, you can check it out here: • First Flight and Flyin...
Be sure to check out www.mikegoulian... if you're in the Greater Boston Area and want to give this a shot yourself.
Shout out also to Stefan Drury: www.youtube.co....
and Niko from Niko's Wings: / nikolaki70 who inspired this idea :)
Links to the gear I use to record these flights:
GoPro Hero 7: amzn.to/2IDLU53
NFlight 58mm Propeller Filter (minimizes the propeller in the front facing shots): amzn.to/2X2ZZle
Audio Cable to connect ATC audio from the plane to GoPro: amzn.to/2X7lLEJ
GoPro Remote - starts/stops recording for all 3 GoPros simultaneously: amzn.to/2Ftj4SG
Nikon D5600 DSLR for stills and long better shots of the plane exterior: amzn.to/2WXBzcZ

Great second episode! There are pilots who worked through the challenges of motion-sickness and succeeded in their certification goals. No prob.

Hi JD. I'll have plenty of questions for you, considering taking some lessons in a Cirrus SR20 or SR 22. Love the natural feel of your videos, sir! Very inspiring.

Hey, thanks! Ask away. Glad the vids are encouraging. It’s a lot of fun and a lot of work. (Both making the videos and learning to fly :)

JD Flies Cirrus Gotcha! For starters, why a Cirrus? It’s silly, but for me I’ve always been drawn to their aesthetics and then seeing one up close did something for me. I’ve always had an unusual affection for low winged aircraft.

It was a combo of the design/look/feel + the safety of the CAPS system. I’m in my early forties with 2 kids so my wife and I had a convo about flight lessons. The parachute made it an easier ‘yes’ since if things really get bad, you can pull the chute. This, combined with my research on Cirrus in general made it an obvious first choice. On top of all that, turns out I live only 30 minutes away from one of the best Cirrus training schools in the Northeast so it felt like the right way to start. I’ve had some comments saying that I should have chosen something cheaper like a Cessna but for me, it’s less about saving money and more about safety and the mission that I’m training for: flying for work + visiting friends/family. Hope that helps.

JD Flies Cirrus 100% agree with you. CAPS is the first thing that lured me to the brand, then I saw the cockpit and that’s been in my sights since. I love Cirrus’s actual, provable commitment to safety. When I saw the poster they keep in the factory showing how many lives saved because of CAPS, plus the deployable harness straps and crash-worthy cockpit, I felt much better about pursuing it. Just saving up now.

Love the video, not no much the music which is also louder than the commentary. As an SR20 owner working on becoming a CFI, I'm very interested in the instructor's techniques.

Amazing video. For some reason the sidestick seems so unnatural to me. Would love to try and see the difference

Good work on your videos. I learned on an SR20 after 20 hours of flying so I an relate. Great plane. Your instructor is really doing a great job to help you build confidence. May I ask how you captured the sound from your headset?

Thanks! The audio is captured directly into one of the GoPro cameras via a special cable: Nflightcam Audio Solution for GoPro Hero5, Hero6, Hero7 Black, Hero8. Search for it on Amazon or Google to see a picture. It uses one of the planes audio outputs and plugs right into the usb C port on the camera. Super convenient. The trick is synchronizing the audio between all 3 cameras but that’s another story :)

When hand flying trim is your friend...in bumpy air the trim will constantly fall out and constant adjustments are needed. If you use the A/P you can see it do the same thing.... Once again violating VFR cloud clearances. Sad. Training...muscle memory doesn't come instantly...

How difficult to control the Cirrus SR22 on the ground? since I understand that it does not have steering and you have to control it with touches on the brakes, is this true?
