The difference between density altitude and elevation tends to be pretty similar across an area (experiencing the same weather). For example, your 99F takeoff might've had a DA of 4,100 ft, meaning a difference of 3,000 ft, so expect every airport nearby to have a DA that is 3,000 ft above the field elevation. In this case, the AWOS reporting 7,900 ft DA was ~2,800 ft above field elevation. For a wag, the correction from pressure altitude to density altitude is 120 times the deviation from ISA in C. Lastly, the Cirrus might even display DA.

Great decision on going back. I fly SR20s in Duluth Minnesota where i think the highest density altitude i’ve seen here is 4,500’. Exactly why I'm not a fan of Cirrus. In a lot of cases I feel they are overrated. If I had been in that situation in my '69 Piper Cherokee 160, wouldn't have even been an issue. I have taken off at max weight in high density altitude conditions, and while I would never boast a great climb rate, runway length has never been an issue. That being said, there are things that Cirruses do well... taking off in short distances is not one of them.

@johnflaherty95953 жыл бұрын
OK, calling a no-go is good if you're not comfortable, yet I'm somewhat perplexed. I heard plenty about density altitude issues in tech school; mostly B-52s can't take in the South when it's too hot; they don't want the Bufs over-running the runway because of being too heavy for the heat. Yet you're obviously airborne and appear to be well above the ground. Is this an issue wherein it's too hot to allow for climbing quickly enough to get over upcoming terrain? Is it a matter of being too heavy to take off safely from a destination airfield? I think I'm missing something here. .... Ah, ..helps to get to the end of the video. So there WAS a concern about a safe takeoff at the intended destination. Too bad.

A bottle of fr3 in the oil will make that engine far more resistant to heat. It will run cooler and with less parasitic drag and give you a reasonable percentage of increased horsepower for a 25.00 bottle of oil additive. ZMAX conditioner for the metals inside the engine will also increase your heat dispersion rates and that was originally designed for aircraft engines. I am thoroughly surprised, and a little bit shocked, that if you guys are so much into engines on automobiles which are basically as close to Aerospace engines as they have ever been, that you guys don't know anything about this. Maybe you just haven't been around long enough to absorb some of these old tricks that we use to make sure that engines last longer. But I've only been working on mechanical accoutrements since 1964.

Jeffrey and Christian I have to admit I do love the Cirrus SR-20 it's really nice although if I had to decide between the Cirrus SR-20 and the Bonanza F-33A. It would be kind of hard but I'd choose the Bonanza. It's bittersweet that the Cirrus SR-20 may get taken by a new owner, however if that's the case I know they will enjoy it. I have to admit the SR-22 is an amazing aircraft. I was curious why someone wouldn't be so interested in a Cirrus? I would say my answer to the question "Would you have gone or turned around?" I would have loved to have gone, however I want to do the best/safe decision which in that case I'd turn around. I wish there could be a way to make the SR-20 capable of flying in heat like you all were flying in.

The Bonanza is not at all a beginner airplane. No way. Take the Cirrus for flight training or sell it and get a Piper Archer with strong attitudes to learn to fly.
