People forget that it didn’t take 500hp to do the same work trucks do today, 30 years ago. Nothing beats hearing them injectors rattle and that turbo spoolin. Awesome truck.
@straightpipediesel8 ай бұрын
The difference is when this truck was built, there was a 55 MPH nationwide speed limit (some exceptions to 65). Today, you got 70-75 in cities. Same thing in Europe today, the EU requires anybody towing to have a 90 kph/55 MPH limit (80 kph/49 MPH in some countries) which is why they tow RVs with a midsize sedan.

It made me a diesel guy. I love the sound, the feel, the torque, everything. I've got a 95 powerstroke. It was my first diesel and I still have it and drive it. I've always wanted a Cummins but could never afford one. So I listen to videos like this and enjoy other people's. Someday I'll have one. Thanks for posting this. Amazing how much trucks have advanced. Only 10k lbs and pushing what you would want to regularly haul with that truck. My dads 2015 F150 with the 3.5L engine handles 10k no problem. Accelerated strong up hills, engine brake hold it down hills, brakes strong, handles overall smooth. Almost as if pickup classes have shifted up, 1/2 tons today can do easily what 3/4 ton 25 years ago could barley do. But personally, I would rather be seen driving a 1st gen cummins than a lousy f150 ecobost lol.
@EngineersGarage1 Жыл бұрын
Yeah this load is about the limit. The truck can get more weight moving for sure but it only weights 4600 lbs so it gets pushed around a bit. I agree there has been a shift in truck classes. Having many 1500s of every brand in my family it's definitely true they could move this load better, just not as nearly as fun!

I'm hoping to get myself a 1st or 2nd gen with a 5.9 soon just because of videos like this one here. I currently have a 2012 4th gen but due to poor fuel mileage (I don't know why it's getting bad mileage, I've done everything I can) I just want to go old school and get something with less technology involved just so I can get the real diesel experience Edit: does this truck have an exhaust brake? I know they didn't have them from the factory but I was wondering if you put one aftermarket or tried to stay mostly original.
@EngineersGarage13 жыл бұрын
Can't go wrong with either a 1st or 2nd gen. The newer emissions systems and weight of new trucks kills the fuel efficiency. I don't have an exhaust brake. It's something that's on my long term list of mods, I still have to do 60lb valve springs for the brake.
