Because the news in the U.S. lies, and come over and steal and invade their country. So we have these preconceived notions about other countries, and in all actuality it's beautiful. They always show the negative and poor parts of Africa, but it's just the same in the U.S. we have places that are ridden with crime and poverty. In America they program us to think negatively about other countries through tv and the news. That's why it's great to travel and educate ourselves, because what we are being taught is not always the truth. Thank you to this family for showing us the beauty in Africa. ❤

aquariuslee561 that is true. I’ve been all over Asia and Europe. America tells us how beautiful and romantic Rome Italy is when the people who have to live there are trying to escape it , due to being overrun by Mafia. We are programmed to hate Iraq because we were told they did 9/11 when they didn’t have a thing to do with it. And Iraq is portrayed as very poor and women covered from head to toe black. And that’s not true. It’s a beautiful country but America did not help it when it illegally invaded Iraq and left nothing but destruction.

I love that you are sharing East Africa in a different and more realistic light, when I moved to Rwanda my friends and family had so many ideas about what my life would look like. With the exception of Starbucks, it looks pretty much the same. When they came for my wedding they were shocked. I’m glad you are sharing this image of Africa. Thanks!

Melissa Chege yeah even in Rwanda, we have it, it was a joke 😊. Java is very expensive and high calorie anyway, and I’m more missing the “to go” “dairy free options” and “everywhere” aspects. Everyone who lives far from home will have stuff they miss, even if there are similar options available.

Melissa Chege even in Rwanda, it’s still simple as there are no outside brands for food that I recognized from the US, but recently almost anything is available in Kigali if you know were to go. A lot of growth and change recently. It’s exciting or those of us who miss certain food and home items.

My family is originally from Iran and people have the same preconceived notions about the middle east as they do about east Africa, most people think that the world outside of the west is all dirt roads and mud huts and villages without running water. It’s so refreshing to see the comments and know that more people are being educated about the reality of life in east Africa. The media’s portrayal of “third world countries” is far from the truth. The world is beautiful and our Lord is good.

@@haleyhorn6257 I wish we could have stayed! We had 12 men break into our home and attempt to kill my father. Then then successfully broke in a second time, and attempted to do the same 5 more times. We knew many who stayed as well, but after those traumatic events we were told to leave. Great memories aside from that! :)

It might have to do with the near constant running of advertisements in America showing poor starving Africans living in shacks with no water, or the constant campaigns to raise money for aid to Africa (ie LiveAid anyone?) Seeing how it REALLY is there makes me rethink ever donating money to these things again. I feel like ive been duped by people who just want money lol.

Yes it is very convenient. This particular mall they went to has several big store supermarkets and separate vegetable stores. This is great both for us and tourists so that they are not overwhelmed. However the mall is expensive for vegetables so the open air markets are better but not for the fainthearted because they get fresh produce in bulk every day.

I am from Kenya but live in TX. I first arrived in the U.S in the summer early 90's, the #1 question I got asked was about the animals...yes they roam freely but in a game reserve,( example is the Masai Mara reserve which is 582 as miles and it's fenced off)...the fact is most Kenyans have never seen Lions, giraffes or any other wild animals. Most folk were shocked when I complained about the high temps, they assumed that I was used to it being from Africa...I am from the Kenyan highlands and average weather all year long is low 70's..July/August is our coldest season and can get to the lower 40s. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZC3g6B3frqJqZY

It's so refreshing to hear you say that about Kenya, so true what a beautiful country......I often am so surprised even by what people think of Canada...polar bears and igloo's!! I've lived here my whole life never seen either! Namaste family

Come visit Kenya and the rest of Africa, you will be blown away! I can't stop laughing and wondering what has been shown/taught about Kenya/the rest of Africa on your end. The comment section is awash with people in shock that we are civilised and live the same or even better life than most people in the western world😂😂😂 What a shame! Blame it on western world propaganda😲😲
