To the person who asked the question about criminology: I have my degree in criminal Justice and criminology, and no, things are not held back during those courses. We go into crimes like this with a fine tooth comb to understand aspects of crime. We had extensive lessons on death penalty, crime deterrent, how people commit crimes, and how criminology plays a role in apprehending suspects. But, it doesn’t really teach people how to crime better, especially in these cases, because what you learn, essentially, is there’s absolutely no way to leave no trace, especially in this modern era and especially with brutally violent crimes and especially when a victim has the ability to and does fight back. Criminology is also about a lot more than just how people commit crimes and how you catch them. You tend to focus on areas of criminology when you study and a lot of it can be philosophical. Such as: what is justice? What does it mean? Why is it important? What are the different philosophies of different justice systems? What works and what doesn’t to create a “utopia” of no crime. Why do people commit crimes? What does and doesn’t deter crime. Etc. etc. The fact of the matter is that people aren’t teaching these courses thinking someone in the room is trying to learn how to crime better, they’re teaching these courses with the understanding that the people in the room have a genuine interest in criminology and criminal Justice and helping people understand what that means. Hope that helps ☺️

Dear Emily, I’m unsure who asked for you to go over to someone else’s stream (doesn’t matter) but I want to thank you so much for doing your own thing. I am subscribed to a dozen legal/crime channels. You are far and beyond THE BEST! You are appreciated by thousands of law nerds. Thank you for your fair and “unsensationalized” approach. You are sensitive to your fans as well as the victims. Upon further review, 41:10, I was wrong, they asked her to backup to watch law&crime’s coverage of the PCA. still rude in my opinion, we watch Emily for her analysis which is always fair, intelligent and factual. Facts not F***ery. I apologize for my error. But I stand by my statement that Emily is the best at breaking down the cases and that is why we keep coming back.

I know probably a lot of us who watch way too much true crime content see the roommate as terrible for not calling immediately, however we tend to forget that not everyone thinks it's automatically something bad when something happens. These are all college students in a room mate situation. If you opened your door abs saw a stranger, you wouldn't think "bad" necessarily, you would probably think "roomy brought home a guy friend"... especially after a party. A dude with a face mask and hat just looks like a dude who wants to keep covid free, not ski mask murderer. The roomy said what she heard sounded like they were playing with the dog. She cries, maybe the guy is breaking up with her. There are a thousand different reasons why it wouldn't necessarily be a bad scenario, and only that one that makes it tragic. Those survivors are gonna go through hell in their own guilt, we don't need to pile any more on that. Leave the room mates alone.

But when you are a female and very young, in a college house, where often strangers that are men come in, mostly prob thinking about keeping yourself safe from the R word and not the M word. So her response to a stranger she didn’t know that late with no one really around prob did startle her, but possibly not highly unusual or impossible and going into her room and locking the door does not seem out of proportion since she doesn’t have any idea, nor prob could even imagine, as I assume she is still very naive.

I’m very much obsessed by true crime, however I also read around forensic psychology and the brain on fear and trauma slows cognitive function, add in the alcohol and she was very impaired. I don’t at all think it’s weird or odd. While there is more info on this PCA it isn’t the whole story. People are too quick to judge when they have no idea how they’d react. I absolutely don’t think it’s weird, I think she’s the victim of a crime also, and the fact she’s even still here is incredibly lucky. She didn’t stab 4 people and the only reason her interview testimony is included here is because she just so happened to see him fleeing.

She just described BK and puts him in the residence at the time of the murders. That and the cellular data is very important. @therealz360z7 I feel bad for Kohberger's family, assuming they knew nothing about what he did, but police believe that this man is a quadruple murderer. Who knows what else he was capable of doing and whether his family was in danger? His family live in a gated community. The photos show large rural lots and little traffic. Access is restricted and it's difficult for police to just sit on the street and watch the house without him seeing them or neighbors noticing. If that had happened, who knows what Kohberger might have done ? He wouldn't have been the first mass murderer to take his family with him on the way out. By doing things the way they did, they may have saved his family's life. Windows and doors can be replaced and although what happened to the family is awful, it might have been the better choice.

As someone who has been in a very scary situation before but narrowly escaped, thank you for making a point to emphasize that when going through a traumatic experience our brains can not be very rational. Whenever I think back to my experience I feel a sense of frustration because there were things I wish I had done or had observed that could have helped in the investigation but my mind was just in flight mode and wanted to leave and you just freeze and go numb and don’t fully process or “realize” in the moment what is actually happening because its something you hear happen to other people but not yourself. I wouldn’t be surprised if something similar happened with that witness. That everything she was witnessing in that moment was so bizarre and for a moment you doubt your judgement and don’t even fully process what is actually happening until later when your brain is finally able to process what you just witnessed or went through. I feel for the surviving victims and though my situation was not to the extent of what they had to go through, I can imagine how much PTSD they will have to deal with from now on. It’s so easy to say “if I was in this situation I would do this” but once you are in a specific situation, believe me, it is not always that straight forward. And just to add, the affidavit does not reveal all the other information so there is more to that witness probably than what they have revealed at this time.

@@orphanedhanyou I totally understand that point as well about why a masked person isn’t a huge red flag to immediately call 911 and for that I don’t quite have an answer either. Obviously just speculating and I have questions too about it but I think because the probable cause was mainly to just outline reasoning to arrest him, they probably left out a lot more detail of her account and just added in her description of the guy because for the arrest warrant that was the only necessary information that needed to be shared at this time. We will have to wait and see what more details there are in regards to her side of the story. I just don’t like when ppl jump online and immediately blame someone who has also been going through it and probably dealing with survivors guilt as well and then having to read conspiracy theories. In a house with a boyfriend over, another girl broken up with her boyfriend and everyone had been out drinking, crying wouldn’t automatically indicate murderer in the house. I’m curious if maybe he had a stun gun or something to incapacitate them and keep them from screaming because I do find that unusual

I have not followed this case basically at all, but I did hear the roommates came home after drinking as you mentioned. This isn't to victim shame, but to help others prevent being victims: the sister says in video clip i saw earlier today that there was no "high risk" behavior to trigger a reason why this happened. While there is no link from drinking to the murder itself, just because drinking & getting drunk is "normal" or "common" people, especially teens, need to be aware that doesn't change it from being high risk behavior. While this is a murder, alcohol is the root of so many deaths in young people. In this case who knows if they were less inebriated or sober could they have better defended themselves or had better senses about them.

In the affidavit, the surviving roommate reported that she thought she heard the roommate playing with her dog. Then "someone's here". Add that in with party house (read revolving door type home) it makes sense that she didn't investigate. She saw a stranger, and froze. He probably didn't see her, and that 'freeze' reaction was more of a not wanting to be seen spying vs fearing for her life. Most roommates don't live like families do, so the likelihood of a.roommate investigating a disturbance is low to begin with. In summary, DM seemingly didn't realize the gravity of what she was hearing. She's lucky that the perp didn't see her.

As for the witness roommate, it does sound a little weird that she didn't really do anything, but then I think of how many times I've seen or heard something spooky at night that got me to do things like silently lock my door, etc, only to do nothing else and wait it out. You assume you're wrong, not that a murderer is actually inside the house, etc. I can only imagine that in a house with so many people living and visiting, she convinced herself that she was being dramatic, etc, and that'd it turn out to have been no big deal the next day.

Agreed. The amount of times I think I heard a suspicious noise and swept my house for it to only be my cat's is more times than I want to admit. If it was a house with 4-5 other roommates on 3 diff floors there is no way I'd go wander the whole house, I'd just lock in my room and call friends or police if I keep hearing alarming noises. I'm assuming the roommate went back to sleep, which means she obviously wasnt still concerned enough about anything. If we think she's sus then we think she's lying about something or all of it, which then why? So then we're assuming she was involved in the killings or knew about it? So when I hear the case I keep in mind that possibility but so far nothing has shown how or why. And if she is lying and didn't see a person (or it wasn't this defendant) then why/ how did his DNA get to the crime scene? Anyway, just cuz we think the roommate should have done something different doesn't mean she's the guilty party.

It is so true that you never know how you will react in a violent/traumatic situation. I know we would all like to think we would be quick on our feet but that is simply not the case for everyone, especially young adults. I was robbed at gun point when I was 19, I actually thanked the guy and told him to have a nice night. It took a few mins for me to actually process what happened and call 911. The PD questioned me in court and asked if I was really as freighted as I was because of my reaction..that said, what the roommate witnessed was so, so much more traumatic than what happened to me, so I can only imagine how she is feeling and may not even know why she reacted the way she did, when she did. It is not for us to judge- especially considering, if this does go to trial, I am sure the PD will question her about it. That will be traumatic enough. So as public on lookers, PLEASE let’s not judge, question or make assumption about her for how she reacted! I am sure she already see’s enough online, she doesn’t need to see more!

If that Reddit survey post was indeed him, I will not be at all surprised if we find out that his base motive was just to experience for himself how "emotions and psychological traits influenced decision-making when committing" this crime. There is likely a reason why he chose that house or the victims, but he may have seen this all as an "experiment" which would make him a very scary kind of killer. There is a psycological thing (that actually has a fancy name, but I forgot it): the level of self assurance is usually low, when one is totally out of the topic. As soon as one starts gaining the very first learning experience, there come the feeling you know everything - and a person gets on the top of self assurance. Then, when continuing to learn, we drop this feeling down to earth again as we realized that the actual ocean of knowledge is huge. And only after we can slowly-slowly get a bit higher level of self assurance - but usually it never gets that initial peak. I think this guy was into digital data & security. Maybe made his first steps. This led him to a conclusion he knows everything - and definitely enough to commit a crime. Yet he was not educated enough to keep a little bit more factors inda head. The thing he overseen even some common sense details just depicts his level of general wisdom. Too young + too sure = disaster.

I'm late to this party but I have live chat replay running while I watch and as I've seen in other places, there is so much speculation about the roommate not calling 911 and I would just like to share my perspective. It's my understanding that it was a busy house with a lot of people coming and going at all hours. I've lived in a home like that and I remember very distinctly in the middle of the night one night being awoken by sounds coming from one of my roommates bedrooms and getting up to open my door to hear a little better. It was quiet at that point so I closed it and laid back down but before I could fall asleep again I heard what sounded like arguing. Once more I got up and opened the door and just then, coming down the dark hallway toward me, was someone I didn't recognize. I froze in fear/embarrassment at being caught eavesdropping/ awkwardness. He didn't even make eye contact with me, just walked past me down the stairs and out the front door. I closed my door, locked it, and went back to bed. Until I fell asleep I ran different scenarios in my mind trying to figure out who he might have been and which one of my roommates might have had him over. It never occurred to me that he might have just murdered my roommates. Now I'm imagining that if he had done something to anyone in the house, the world would be speculating about why I didn't call 911! I haven't heard anything yet to give me a reason to think the roommate should have done anything more than what she did. Just like I didn't feel the need to do anything that night. I sure as hell didn't think I should call 911, and my roommates were roommates. They weren't my besties, they weren't family, we got along well but we didn't all hang out together and it wasn't the kind of relationship where I would tipped it on the hall and knock on their doors and see which one of them had had a guy over so I think because of my own experience I understand completely why this roommate did and didn't do what she did and didn't do. I'm so hurt for her that there's so much speculation out there. I can only imagine the guilt I would live with if something had happened that night and I can only imagine the guilt this girl is going to live with for the rest of her life. I pray she can find some peace but she isn't going to find it if she's reading comments like the ones I've been seeing.

They had been having a college weekend night, maybe they hadn't been to sleep yet, but who isn't tired, things don't fully click. There's just so many factors here (including fight or flight, freezing, freaking the crap out and just wanting to be away from the person and thinking of my own safety, etc) that make sense to me that they didn't call 911 that moment. I can understand that perspective, and in certain ways I do agree. But I also wonder what kind of torture it must be to sit on death row, in complete and total seclusion, awaiting the day of your death. You’re a trapped animal in a cage waiting to be slaughtered. It seems the day of death comes much later after sentencing, there’s a period of time where they have to wait.. and I feel like that’s part of the punishment. You can still experience some form of joy in prison when you’re not on death row. Maybe even laugh, smile, joke around. Maybe the other prisoners would take care of the issue like they did Dahmar, I guess we’ll wait and see. All I know is that life is precious, and every breath we take is a gift. He took four lives in the most barbaric way. He should be sent into the same endless nothingness that he sent Ethan, Madison, Xana and Kaylee into far before their time and so unfairly. Freeze is totally understandable. But once you are inside and safe for hours? It's easy to dismiss and make excuses for seeing a suspicious person, but we need to ensure people feel empowered to feel they can call campus police or 911 vs talk themselves out of it or feel "stupid" if it turned out to be nothing. See something say something!

I absolutely don’t blame her for her reaction, frankly I would probably have done the same thing and I’m willing to bet most people, especially young college students, faced with the same situation would as well. As far as the reason for the 911 call coming in later in the day, I hope everyone can reserve judgement if/until more information is available. It’s entirely possible she went into a dissociative state or passed out with having had an adrenaline rush after kind of encounter. It’s also possible that she did not realize what had actually happened until the deceased roommates were discovered. Having lived in a fairly party heavy house as a younger adult where there was a lot of traffic in and out, I can remember when there would be literal strangers sleeping on our couch for longer than I think anyone at the house cared to admit. There are so many unknowns at this point that the least we can do is assume the roommate wasn’t acting maliciously. I hope everyone involved finds peace and healing

I know from following the Vallow/Daybell case that ID has 60 days from when a plea is entered to announce if they will be seeking the death penalty. In the V/D case they waited until the actual day of the deadline to announce it.

Emily, I am on the replay gang today and I just have to say your reaction to what you are reading just made me feel so much better. I've been following this case as I like in Washington State very very close to Pullman and it is extremely scary. Anyway I had watched The Lawyer that you Know read this and I was so freaked (very similar to your response). It's just very disconcerting.

I lived in Pullman for 3 years and spent a lot of time in Moscow. Drove 270 a lot. Moscow has the food scene and cute downtown. Pullman has the bigger campus. This case has shook my family to our core. We continue to pray for the families, friend, community. Thank God for law enforcement! & for a legal system that seems to work to protect innocent suspects but also bring to Justice the guilty.

It makes me sad how much crap the roommate who didn’t call right away is getting. I can’t even imagine the fear, not wanting to get out of your room, not wanting to make a noise in your room (I.e., make a call) in case he hears you, or even just freezing out of fear. Everyone acting like know exactly what they’d do has no way of knowing unless they’ve gone through a similar experience.

It says one of the victims were on TikTok at 4:12, but if you don’t actively leave the app or lock your phone, the video just keeps repeating. I’m not sure if there’s a way to check if the same video played more than once or if she was actively swiping. Makes me feel a little sick to think about, but I think it’s important to note

Praying for all of the victims may they rest peacefully, for their families to continue to heal with everyday that goes by, also for the surviving roommates and anyone else trying to heal🙏🏼 As always, I love following you and your coverage (of all cases, not just this one) because you break it down with class and respect for the families and people effected by this senseless. You talk about all the law things in a way that NO ONE else does and personally taught me a lot. I just wanted you to know that you are one of a kind, truly! I always wanted a best friend like you😬 but I have a sister-in-law that is like a twin to you in so many ways.. so I’ll take what I can get😜 🤭 Thank you for being you! Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy new year! ✨❤️

Coming from someone who has a fiance and a sister in law that is an attorney I can really appreciate you doing your thing at home. It is horrible. Especially those that do family law. It's rough in those streets. You have so many emotions from your clients wanting to contact you at all hours of the night and using their emotions to deal with their situation instead of your advice. And then want to blame you for the things you suggested they don't do. It's ALOT of stress. I commend you for turning your skill into an awesome channel. I love your videos.

I read an article that Bryan had Pennsylvania plates at the time of the murder and had to update to Washington plates 5 days later due to his annual renewal/having been in Washington for a certain period of time. So, it's possible that he had no front license plate (Pennsylvania plates) during the murders and then did have a front license plate (Washington plates) at the time of the stop.
