I lived in Rialto off of Acacia street and Ron had lived 2 minutes up the street from me. I never met him personally. He is about 20 years older than me and had moved already. I attended ROP through Rialto HS and Bill Brown was the instructor. He made the hub caps the are on the car at 4:02 in the video. I look forward to seeing the Corvette restored.

@@tonypena2956 yup chicano ww2 mechanics who earned money from the gi bill and learned basic mechanical skill from the war started lowriding along with white hotroders. They retrofitted the hydraulic landing gear from airplanes into cars........ Lowered cars were illegal so hydraulics were a quick measure to raise the car at real time when a police car was nearby...........

the Xsonic only had hydraulics 2 the front only!Ron's Corvette used lifts to lower and raise the front suspension only and btw,this car WAS NOT a lowrider.It was an experimental rod/bellflower car.The very 1st car was a 1954 Ford Convertible owned and restyled by James "Jim" Logue of Long Beach, California. Jim's Ford is one of the first cars, and maybe even the first one, that used hydraulic lifts to alter the ground clearance on all 4 corners in late 1957 or early in 1958.

@@christophermoore7944 What do you mean? Ron Aguirre said he was of "Latin" origin but he admitted to not having connections to the Chicano culture. Social Historian Anthony Macías describes Ron as "A young Mexican-American from San Bernardino", and his book is a scholarly work that includes interviews. He wouldnt call Ron Mexican-American unless he confirmed it. Lowrider magazine said his family was from the Basque country, that's either a mistake or his family were Mexicans of Basque descent i.e. white Mexicans. There are many Mexicans of Basque descent like Vicente Fox. Mexican-Americans of predom. European descent would also hide their Mexican origin to shield against racism like Ted Williams.

That is correct!!! I verified that Ron is/was of Basque descent. WE spoke about that a few months before he passed away. BTW, I was one of the producers of this segment. Ron was a great guy. There is definitely controversy as to Jim Logue's Ford, or Ron Aguirre's Corvette credited with the first hydraulics set up. KNOW THIS. The X Sonic was the first Chevy to have hydraulic front suspension, and it was the X Sonic, NOT Jim Logue's Ford that sparked the hydraulic revolution within the Lowrider community. PERIOD!!!
@barehandbandit
@barehandbandit 11 жыл бұрын
whole new level? are you kidding me. HE only did 1 setup in his car, HE never did anything else after that. The only reason the lowriding world wanted to give him credit is because they used to think he was Chicano, but he completely denounced that, he was nowhere near an innovator of custom automotive hydraulics, he simply copied the first and faded away.

Ron aguirre's X sonic wasn't the first to get hydraulics lifts, jim logue done that months before Ron put lifts on his car also lowriding wasn't started by Mexican Americans, the original lowriders were the kustoms and lead sleds of the late 50s and early 60s. And all of those cars were owned by white guys

@@skrrrtbrrrt3116 Many different ethnic groups were customizing cars but it wasn't considered lowridering like the Chicanos were doing it. Hot rod culture is totally different from lowriders. Yes, many ideas may have been taking from the hot rod culture but they were modified and taken more to an extreme such as the interiors, custom paint jobs and patterns, murals and chrome and gold plating, etching, and modifications like suicide doors, trunks and hoods. Aztec patterns and murals were an homage to the Chicanos ancestry. Hot rods stood taller with larger wheels, lowriders sat lower with smaller wheels. There are so many differences it's difficult to put into words.

@@dannyd5580 Just because chicanos gave it their own style doesn't mean they should take credit. @@skrrrtbrrrt3116 The following quote is from the National Museum of African American History and Museum..."Even if they’ve never seen one in person, most fans of west coast hip hop are familiar with the distinctive look of specialized cars known as lowriders. The cars and lowriding culture resonated across regional and racial lines. Though lowriders were first crafted in barrios across the Southwest and southern California as unique symbols of personalized creativity and Latino cultural identity, African American car enthusiasts began developing lowriders of their own. The image of lowriders coasting down L.A.’s Crenshaw Boulevard and bouncing in rhythmic unison to the bass-driven music of gangsta rap would become synonymous with the stylized presentation of west coast, urban hip hop culture." Who created Zoot suit created? Fact : Zoot suits were first associated with Black Americans in urban communities such as Harlem, Chicago, and Detroit, but were made popular by Black jazz musicians in the 1940s. Not Hispanics.
