Hi Anthony 👍 that is a very nice set. I really like the unusual aspect of it being a step away from the norm. You can see why the older models run better with the Pizza cutting wheels that was out of scale but helped the coaches stay on the tracks. Thanks for sharing and Auf tschüss und glückliche Züge Andy

Hiya, Andrew! What I love most is seeing the seed of ideas of what the liveries eventually became. They feel dated, but with some nice looks. Definitely the old wheels look less realistic but provided better stability. This has been an odd impulse buy and I have done more research on this event than any other train or train set I have encountered. Cheers and all the best to you and yours!

Nice set. As a Youth, the last thing my dad and I put on our layout was a working catenary system. The wear you show on the pantograph is consistent with a little use. If it had been used a lot there would be a distinct polished section in the pantograph top or even a grove.
@ModelTrainOutsider
@ModelTrainOutsider Жыл бұрын
Hi, Damian, exactly what I saw and felt. You get a definite polish when something runs, but this was beyond polish... the coating that gets put on these metals "caramelizes" a bit when electrified, and you see that here, so the loco was clearly run a bit. The cars show no wear of any kind.

Anthony, I got this set when it was new, and although the boxes in the 1990s had small pieces of felt and thin plastic sheets, my reccolection is that this was not the case with the 1980s era sets that first came in these boxes with the vacuum formed carton inserts. I remember felt on the locomotives. I'll double check this, but I wouldn't assume it was missing. I'll double check mine (just moved, so I need to sort out where it is!).
@ModelTrainOutsider
@ModelTrainOutsider Жыл бұрын
Thank you for this information. As I stated, I was not sure when the plastic/felt sheets would appear. I did find a felt sheet in the bottom of the box, under the Video Tape, but that may have been protecting the stickers/decals, too.
@mountainmanpedro

@ModelTrainOutsider I just checked my set. The felt is behind the loco. You should also have the instructions, an exploded view diagram, and four sets of decals with destination boards for the passenger cars.

@@mountainmanpedro Same here. There was a piece of felt under the Videotape, which may have been intended there, or it may have been for the loco and got moved there.

1987... a limited and special release. This set, the BR111 from last week, one other loco and a set of 4 other coaches (#4220-4223). It has been a very fun bit of study for me.

Hello, Andrew T.! It is very interesting about these models, but one can see the seeds of the eventual liveries which immediately followed them and even today's official liveries, which have been in place for over 2 decades. A fascinating set and study the last couple of weeks.

For the final color scheme (the two tone window band one): IC kept the red, with an additional lighter purple stripe (which was also used on the ICE-1 in a modified version) FD became two tone blue, later shared with the Interregio The Silberlinge got partially repainted in mint green, but lots kept the brushed look until they were painted red CityBahn (that's where the CB stands for) became orange (which was the most common S-Bahn scheme) and later mint green For some odd reason the grey luggage van scheme was the only one that stuck. It was modified to a two tone version. For a full digital conversion of the locomotive the best solution is to start with installing the 5 pole conversion (which allows for smoother starts), then add a recent decoder

Thank you for the follow-up information, Ivo. I have found it quite fun to study a bit of this story and learn what I could about the models' production and story, but to also see the progression of liveries from this point to now. Even though some intermediate liveries occurred, one can even see the seeds of the coming liveries which are now universal in DB. A little train livery history has been fun to learn a bit about.

Thx for sharing. I first thought that this is the Pop-Color set I bought w/o loco, but apparently it’s something else. I’ve bought a bunch of older Märklin train sets and so far I can’t remember having had any issues…
@ModelTrainOutsider
@ModelTrainOutsider Жыл бұрын
Hi, Tom. Yes, this is from 1987 based on a 1985-1986 DeutscheBahn design search to create a "unified" livery for DB. A few 111s and 215s (I believe) were painted in the suggested liveries from DB's own design firm and an outside firm, and about 10 coaches. They were boserved in Heilbron, I believe, or at least made a stop at Heilbron, and DB rejected the two main suggestions. They eventually decided on a couple similar patterns which carried them into the 90s before the DB red for Regio and the White for IC/ICE were adopted.

You cannot use analog locos with the Mobile Station, because The Mobile station puts a constant 21 volts to the track. The analog locos will "see" this as full power, therefore they will run at top speed, which puts them in danger of flying off the layout. The original analogue controller only put out 18V. It is fairly easy to convert locos, to DCC as it is usually about 7 wires to connect to convert to DCC. There are 3 motor types that Marklin used in analog locos, you need parts that are specific to the motor type in that locomotive. Marklin do produce conversion kits for each of the motor types, or you can buy the parts separately.
