I've had mine for a while. I believe the pen is mostly metal that is painted, the fireworks. My theory is that ink window diameter is smaller than piston, so piston stops. If you compare to a TWSBI, piston works same way, stops before section. Takes a few fills to get full. As you say a nice working pen.
@WaskiSquirrel2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking it was like the TWSBI. I couldn't remember why the TWSBI was like that so I decided not to comment on that. Your explanation makes sense. It's a good pen.

Nice to know about another affordable pen! I’m trying to cut down on how many pens I’ve inked up at one time. Now that I own a few good pens (Benu, sailor, aero, twsbi…) I’m not using my inexpensive ones as much, even if they do write well ! I feel like this would be a good beginner’s fp! Have a good day!
@WaskiSquirrel2 жыл бұрын
I'm limiting my inked up pens as well. It's bad when I have too many! And I agree: my more expensive pens tend to get more use...but interestingly not my MOST expensive pens. My favorites seem to be in the middle.

My first exposure to/experience with Majohn, is their P136. I was so impressed with this pen, I purchased the T2. And, no regrets here, either. Excellent fit and finish on both, and amazing writers "right out of the box" (actually, bag in my case). I had the P136 in my rotation all last month and now have the T2 inked for this month.

I think Majohn in general makes pens well with good fit and finish. I'm impressed with their quality.

I have a T5 and I like it. It's inspired by the Aurora Optima pens, but no clone. The ink window is nice but this piston issue is a bit confusing. Also I can't post it really well. But it writes very nicely and feels good in the hand. Seems to be painted brass.
@WaskiSquirrel2 жыл бұрын
I didn't know this was inspired by the Aurora Optima. That's interesting. You're right: it is painted brass. I didn't understand that when I did my first impression.

A little more similar to Aurora 88?

I’ve their A1 (Pilot VP clone), X1 (MB Boheme Clone), N1 (Tasche Ohto clone), N2, N6, 80s Mini (Parker 51’s mini version) and Wancai Mini.. All of these except A1 are pocket pens and I love them for one reason or another!

The T5 is quite a good looking pen, and at a great price. Ordinarily, I'd have picked one up already, but I'm now out of work for a year, and so I haven't bought a pen since August, when I got the HongDian 100, the X159, and the Jinhao 80. 😞
@WaskiSquirrel2 жыл бұрын
Being out of work for a year is really tough. I hope that changes soon. Of the pens you listed, I've only tried the x159, and I got in some controversy over my views on that pen.

That's a pretty pen. At about my personal max for swirliness.

I liked the minimalistic "swirliness". I just wished the effect was more three-dimensional.

I was very impressed with the T5 when I picked up several- a green, Matt black, dark red,blue. They had a lot of my favourite features- piston filler (no mess)medium nib ,ink window, good weight, girth and quality build. I don’t think Doug R was terribly impressed. They are the sort of pen you can take most places and not worry about losing. I must admit I haven’t used them much of late but that’s easily fixed. How’s the snow? Saw a man over in the US was badly injured when using his private snow plough. Why doesn’t English spell that plié? Good argument for phonetic spelling.
@unknowncrash12 жыл бұрын
Doug likes resin and metal doesn't float his boat as much hahaha. T5 is great
@WaskiSquirrel2 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen Doug's video on this pen. But you are right: I could lose this pen and not worry. The snow has melted and settled a bit. My world is still white, but if we get more snow, I won't have to throw it over my head when I shovel.

The T5 is a favorite pen. My guess is that it has a metal core; it’s heavier than most resin pens. Great all around pen. Mine is Matte finish with a Fine nib.
@WaskiSquirrel2 жыл бұрын
It may have metal, but they did well on the weight. I'll be reviewing a T1 one of these days, and one of my big complaints about it is weight.
@alanpareis7342 жыл бұрын
Nice pen and piston to boot. Can’t wait to see it in PIU to check out the finish under different light. After reading the comments, I am a bit confused is it a plastic (resin pen) a plastic veneer over metal, or painted metal over plastic core?
@WaskiSquirrel2 жыл бұрын
It's a metal pen. But it does have a thick plastic coat on it.

I don't own the T5 but I was, at one stage, considering getting one. Then I saw another KZbin pen reviewer who had problems with his sample of the pen and that put me off. Having watched this review of your particular sample I feel freshly enthused about the Majohn T5 all over again. I like a piston filler and the colours of the T5 do appeal to me. Your writing sample looked faultless, including the world famous PG test. Perhaps I should finally get one.
@WaskiSquirrel2 жыл бұрын
One of the problems with all reviewers is that we can only discuss the pen we have. When we talk about the shape, size, and finish, that's pretty universal, once you know the reviewers preferences. But problems with ink flow and such are so often the individual pen. I used a new pen this week that poured ink all over my classroom and one student's hand. But I had two of that same model. The other one was perfectly good.

Do you know what the brass nib that looks like a bullet is called. I think it might be brass

It's pretty lightweight, and has a plastic section. But I understand your dislike for metal pens. I can count on one hand the number that I've liked.
