Merry Christmas Alex hope you get some warm socks from Santa this year. Your feet and ankles could get cold hole hopping lol. Think I'm going to have to pick up a 10inch composite one this year and try that gear set up on it with my drill for 2025 Thanks for your time good stuff.

Merry Christmas! hahaha, thanks on the socks idea lol. Made me laugh! It was actually pretty nice out this day, about 32 degrees so it wasn't bad. Good deal on the 10" setup!!!

I purchased the panoptix unit at St. Pau shoe for a good price and have been pleased. Yes older tech but was talk of town just a few short years ago I am sure my ignorance but not sure why would leave in forward view and fish with that view once set up vs using fv to scout. That’s is how I have used and the set up works well as no need to keep the transducer in place The transducer has stayed in place in down view when use the float- I keep an eye on it but does do good job of staying in place Overall like much better than vex as is helpful to see the view view of fish in area I do want to get into some Deeper water with it to see if still works as well before my Return window expires Do not like that did not come with cover In summary, for me, it has fit the bill but still Learning and tesstig

Alex, really sorry to hijack this thread (love the video BTW) but I had a question regarding your Otter Hideout; can you run 34-36" rods in there or is it too tight? Thanks and keep up the great content!

I had the same questions with the Garmin setup and that directional thing and how you keep it facing a certain direction and at a certain height.
@AlexTimm

Let's just say it currently seems to be a pain if you have more than 12" of ice (aka cord out past it), maybe there are some tricks I'll learn, and likely not as big of a deal if in down mode, but I'm not initially impressed
@bsimmons00
@bsimmons00 Ай бұрын
@@AlexTimm I had thought it came with a float too but I don't see it shown anywhere. Without ever handling one, my first thought would be to get a float/pool noodle, slit it to get it on the cable between the transducer and that pointer thing and then ziptie it so it doesn't come off. Then at least it could float in the hole and after some settling, the pointer thing might actually point in the same direction as the transducer.
@Saskatchewan1984
@Saskatchewan1984 Ай бұрын
I had thought the cord would be a problem in getting transducer pointing where you want , as under water cameras have always been that way unless you have a holder for the cord , almost need to make a holder for that , that goes across the hole that it could sit on , maybe would help keep it in right direction ,
@AlexTimm
@AlexTimm Ай бұрын
@bsimmons00 it does actually come with a float. However, that would make it worse as it would just spin. I would think

have fallen victim to “I told you so”….and eating a bit of crow After quite a bit of time on ice, returned the panoptix unit. In water under 20 feet, I was very satisfied but in deeper water, hard to find lure without gain cranked to point screen of a lot of clutter. Tried all combos of settings and finally through in flag. The transducer mostly stayed in place in down view but had to keep eye on it. Took more monkeying around in forward view Returned to Scheels and walked out with the livescope 32 set up it has on sale. This unit with battery upgrade is a few bucks less than the panoptix. With Scheels return policy, will be able to try this unit out risk free - just like did with the panoptix. Still a bit leery about the size of the system but with the “free” trial, I thought made sense to try it. Will likely upgrade pole and put on shuttle so a few more bucks to maybe spend if keep unit. Very good service from Scheels. Return line was wrapped around the corner and observant employee saw me with the panoptix and pulled me out of line and called ahead to fishing to let them know I was coming and fishing guy was waiting for me when got to second floor. The return was very efficient and while did not walk in planning to walk out with the livescope unit, he did a great job laying out facts/considerations. No pressure at all but did what a sales guy is supposed to do - on behalf of Scheels and for the customer. Is no wonder their lots are always full

When I do a full walkthrough video on this trailer coming up in the next couple of weeks I will show and explain in detail, but the short version is the reason the floor towards the front of the trailer is raised a bit is because the water holding tanks are under there, that area is all inside the trailer in the heated area. So as long as I keep the propane or gas heat keeping the inside above freezing the tanks will be good to go. With how well insulated these houses are that is no issue at all, and when I have it at home I just plug into shore power and run the electric heater really low.

Just curious what you do for a living? How can you afford something so luxurious for icefishing?
@AlexTimm
@AlexTimm Ай бұрын
Good question - I don't own this, I am borrowing this ice fishing house for the season to see how it works and potentially buying one down the road (in the next few years I will be buying one to call my own and just trying to figure out what I want to spend my money on, brand, style, etc.). One of the benefits of creating online content is companies that believe in their product are actually excited to let you borrow their products with the chance of getting free content out there and spreading the word. I get no money from Core Ice, they don't review any of my videos, and I can say anything positive or critical about their products or anything I want. A truly no strings attached offer, I get a shelter to use and check out, they get free content as they hope I use it a lot and put it in videos (I don't actually even have a requirement to make videos on it). Hope that helps answer the question on the ice shelter, on pretty much everything else in my videos though I buy myself just like an average consumer would. I will always make it clear if I was given anything. And I never accept money or products in exchange for videos from fishing gear or tech companies, as then they are 'ads' and not honest reviews.

100% the way I'm feeling right now, I have a few comparisons and tests and videos to do with it and trying to keep an open mind. We will see what my final thoughts are on it. The first impression is that the OG version with the pole was better than this pole-less design, but it is still not what I'd spend money on vs. the other options out there as of now
@everything-outdoors
@everything-outdoors Ай бұрын
@@AlexTimmI think if it was priced at $1200 it would be okay. It worked fine for 15ft of water. Not having a pole was a huge downside. I spent more time trying to figuring out what way it was pointed and tons of time messing with settings every time I moved into shallower and deeper water.

@ZickJohn yeah, pros and cons to each for sure. I'm honestly excited to use this one this year, will be good to have a full season with both setups and be able to compare and do a review at the end of the season to hopefully help people that are stuck between which model might be best for their needs based on my experience at least
