Hi Jason - love Wooden Wednesday ! Your views and insights into quality of kits / parts and variations between different suppliers is excellent. Gives those of us who are pretty new to wooden ship modelling great insight into the benefits of various companies models and the accuracy of the kits.

Yes, delivery charge free every purchase over Euro300 to Hong Kong, It is quite an advantage compare with other model ship supplier. Unfortunately, they don’t have wood decorative parts, only photo edge which is quite flat!

Great choice of kit: I started mine a week ago. This will be my third Occre model. Personally I like the mid-range of Occre as it is really easy (and inexpensive) to make your own improvements which makes it feel like you're a great modeller. Also they are very generous with the wood strip provided so it is easy to do extra lining etc within the kit. The instructions are a bit sparse. Occre gave more help with their San Juan which is sold as a beginner model. The Beagle was also lacking but there is a full set of build videos available, but only for some kits and not the Revenge.

Very good review. I'm in the process of building her and am almost finished the hull - 'only' the railings and related finishing left. I substituted the PE windows and doors with the windows done in plastic w/ grey screening super glued overtop to simulate diamond pattern leaded windows of old, and the doors made with the 0.6 x 5mm sapelly strips laminated onto brown construction paper (it took a while but all looks much better than PE). There is a lot of extra 0.6x5mm sapelly and 2x5 lime strip allowing for mistakes and adding changes. You will need to be carful with assembly of the framing because Occre has dimensioned components compensating for the sanding to create proper hull shaping - but some tapering sanding (primarily the stern area below the poop framing) should be done before, not after, assembly. Dry test fitting is essential here. Also, there is about a 2mm gap between B10 and B11 - this is because the ship's framing structure is 2mm longer than the B10+B11 length. All you'll need is some spacers to fill the gap (no need to reshape B10 of B11), and then trim/fit B14 to suit. I agree with your comments on the plywood that is visible. For me, I will substitute the more obvious pieces with walnut, but keep the rest. Overall, I really like this model because it captures the classic galleon form so well.

Thx for the great review. FYI, I am working on the Revenge now. Occre must have listened bc my kit has solid wood for the keel (not ply)and wooden cannon trucks. I think I’m going to plank the inside instead of leaving it stained though. 👍🏻

Hi Jason, I have thought of doing a wood kit on the side. Problem with that is that I'd likely get discouraged and it would not only be a waste of money, but worse would be the time it took away from completing what I've got here now. Good review! Thanks! 👍

Hi Jason, I really like the history yo included on your video. This looks like a really well designed kit, to bad they went with the lower quality materials. I guess the higher quality materials would really drive the cost up. I'll be looking forward to seeing the build. I ordered the Eduard 1/350 Arizona Special Edition kit last week. It should be here today! Have a great day. Jeff

Really good review, tempts me to have a good at a wooden ship kit! Do you by any chance have the Occre Endurance kit?
@ModelkitStuff2 жыл бұрын
I don’t sorry, having looked at it I think it looks similar quality. I note they sell sails separately. If you go to the Occre website you can look at the instructions.
