2:55 Nigerians didn't immigrate to Cuba. Santeria came about after Africans were forcibly brought to the Caribbean during the slave trade! Cuba wasn't a part of Spain, it was a colony of Spain.

Despite the 57 year long blockade that has been imposed on Cuba by the United States that was meant to cripple their economic development, it is amazing what they have managed to do with the resources they possess. Cuba is curing types of Cancer and diseases that the rest of the world doesn't have cures for, for example.

Ended up meeting 8 others who we traveled with for a week and it was the most amazing trip we've ever been on (and we've been all over the world). Fascinating history, wonderful people, outstanding music and so nice to be disconnected from the world for a week.

Cuba is definitely a very complicated place to visit. I have very close family friends and childhood friends that parents escape when the revolution started and have grown up hearing their stories, some have shown me pictures of when they lived on the island...the glamor of the buildings and people are so stunning to see now when compared to the decay and ruin we now see in color. I hope to visit one day, but it will be some what of a bitter sweet feeling to finally see Cuba.

Learn history, African tribes sold most of "slaves" to European nations like England, Portugal, and Spain. It was a big thing back then. It had a market. (I personally don't agree with selling people), but what you call slaves, were pretty much classed as cattle to their own tribes)

I went to Cuba last year for my March break with my sister. We were staying in Varadero, people were so nice. I noticed the poverty. I loved the colourful structures and vehicles. We got offered a trip to Havana. We took the opportunity, we learned A LOT about Cuban history, about the Havana club, the government, the currencies. We stayed for 3 days didn’t regret a thing. Would totally recommend for everyone else to go there and looking forward to going back. There was one thing I noticed there. The place we stayed at had internet cards. The people that lived in Cuba would ask tourists to buy the cards for them and just sit around the building for internet. The weren’t allowed to come into the building for some reason. I’ve also learned that the house in Havana are breaking down because the government chooses not to do anything. They are beautiful buildings falling apart. The people there will go up to you ask for things, but they are respectful when they do so. The wage in Cuba are all the same all around. The cars are vintage because they’re not allowed to change it. For us it is beautiful vintage cars, as for them they want to upgrade.

Cuba had been the USA's major export market for cars up till 1959. If you owned a car as of Jan. 1, 1959 (the day Fidel Castro took power), you were allowed to keep it, but not sell it (till about 2012). It could only be transferred to a close family member. Once the USA embargoed Cuba, cars could not be exported there anymore, and a new European car could only be purchased by a handful of people. So anyone lucky enough to come into ownership of a car has worked to keep it running. All those '50s American cars have long since had their engines replaced, and there's not much left on them that was original.

I am from Cuba and I love how people are going there to learn about the culture. It’s a little bit hard knowing how much poverty everyone there is suffering, bread was recently limited to any family that has kids up to the age of 13 and if you don’t then the bread is restrained. BREAD. One penny will buy you 5 pieces of bread but it’s hard when in a month they make around 10-15 dollars maybe less (those who have professional degrees). Everyone in Cuba is struggling. Those who work for the government are overlooked and get privileges like touring people like when the Kardashian’s went. It’s not that Cuba is ‘vintage’ and has beautiful old buildings (they are ALL breaking down, they never have electricity) citizens are just not ALLOWED to progress like the rest of the world otherwise they face years of jail. Cuba is absolutely beautiful and needs all the help they can get. Oh and Santeria is Cuban witchcraft, just thought I would add that. LOVE YOUR TRAVEL VIDEOS!
@donnamanitu83726 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for posting your comment and mentioning that you are from Cuba. If possible I hope you can answer a few questions for me. We will be visiting there via a cruise ship next week. I have read online on how even simple things like toothpaste can cost a tenth of their monthly budget. We have already packed toiletries like toothpaste , toothbrushes, deodorant, floss. I went to the bookstore and picked up children's books which have spanish/english translations and also some spanish bibles. We are bring soccer balls, barbie dolls and some first aid items. We will be taking all the items to La Milagrosa and since we don't speak spanish I thought I will write out a letter and translate via google to take with us. I understand that we are bringing gifts, was told not to say donations, and wanted to know other than an additional cash gift what else would be good to bring ? Thank you for taking the time to read this, we will probably only be going to Cuba once so I want to show our appreciation in a helpful way.
@ilovu77776 жыл бұрын
Donna Manitu they will be so thankful for all those things because they are in need of ANYTHING. I say be careful with how you take things and definitely try saying that it’s for gifts for people you know, otherwise most of the things will be taken away from you at the airport ( just noticed you said cruise ship so I am not sure if it would be the same) when you arrive and they will keep it for themselves. People there really need clothing, children need shoes (you will notice many many kids running around the street barefoot because they can’t use their only pair of shoes that they need for school to play and protect their feet). Small things for us make a huge difference for them, and everyone will be extremely grateful. I recommend going more into the deep towns and not just staying in the city where everything “looks nice” because it’s touristy. Once again, Cuba is absolutely beautiful they really just do need help.
