Hey Chimney cake is Hungarian! :D It's from Transylvania (it was part of Hungary for a thousand years long), more specifically from Székely Land ( which is still a Hungarian speaking region ). But don't misunderstand me, it was a nice Vlog!😄

I understand you're vegans but judging a country's cuisine by vegan foods is definitely far from a truth. Considering that an overwhleming majority of Hungarian dishes contain meat.

First time, and no offence, but you made the usual tourist mistakes. An expensive restuarant in the tourist area, using one of those cash machines with high exchange rates, I've done the same myself actually, but give it time and you'll learn.

@@cjexplores they are everywhere in every European touristic area, indeed. If you really need it, you better get your money through official ATM bank machine Personally, I rarely have my cash with me since you can just tap your card on almost every tenants in Budapest :)

During the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, the Austrians spread the word that Hungarian belongs to the Finnish language family. This was necessary in order to take away our history.

Is that a fact or a myth? I thought that it was determined by linguists that there were similarities. Also we heard that warring tribes from Finland expelled the losing tribes and those were the ones who finally settled in Hungary in the year 96 and declared Hungary a new nation

@@cjexplores The truth is that no one knows the truth. This Finnish theory spread in the 1800s. Based on similarity or grammar, we could rather be Turks. But we are not Turks either. The Turks firmly believe that we are a brotherly people. We officially belong to the Finno-Ugric language family, but this is not a fact, just like anything else. The current government invests serious energy in uncovering the past, but it is not easy, as our 1000-year-old European history is about staying alive in the Vienna, Berlin, Moscow, Istanbul axis without being a Slav, a German, or a Muslim.

@@cjexplores Perhaps if you remember the citadel on Gellért Hill, it was built by the Austrians. And it is no coincidence that the cannons overlook the city. After that, it's an interesting thought to believe them.

@@BalazsNagy-ce1xk we didn’t visit the citadel as it was closed for restoration. But of course we saw it on the hill. Very imposing presence 👀 I think the truth should be heard and not some narrative that serves the country well in the current political climate. Great job that the government is investing so much in this research! Maybe it will never be known for certain due to the lack of written evidence from those tribes.
