We were there 4 days ago. Hectic! Those are nothing compared to the crowds we had to fight to see anything. Later found out it was school holidays in Indonesia and Ramadan. Took a LOT away from the experience. We stayed on Ceningan island (just off Lembongan) that was quaint ideal and amazing! Unlike Penida. Top tip: check the local calendars!

Nusa Penida..... Great memories there. Great to dive and see the mantas, but the plastic soup is so sad. Once you have seen it all you can always go to teletubee hills :)

I travel to fuerteventura and they have a clean ocean project shop and they go and clear the beaches.Not sure if its only in fuerte.They also have sculptures that you can put plastic bottle toos in.they get emptied so hopefully they get recycled?

Some people visit as a day trip! Personally I think you'd want at least 2 full days to really explore. There is so many spots to see!

Absolutely none at all. I just got home from Bali 3 days ago and I had no problem getting a scooter anywhere i went and I had never driven one before.

unfortunately there are many boat available that allow tourist to do days trips from Sanur to Nusa Penida, this has caused huge trash and over crowding problems , I was there several years ago and it was mostly an unspoiled paradise , not so now ...the main spots such as Klingling Beach and Natures Billabong have been totally overrun with crowds , trash and traffic..., the only areas that are still pretty nice are on the far east, southeast areas or if you are staying on the island, go early or go late in the day avoiding all the day trippers

Very sad indeed ☹️ and yes, very much less of a thing in the Philippines. Particularly the fact that you can always get free, clean, filtered water in almost every hotel/hostel in PH. In Bali, they are much further behind with this initiative.

I obviously can't speak to this region/religion but I know for some Indigenous people here in Canada, for example, it isn't actually about a woman being "unclean" or anything like that, it's actually that a woman is almost too powerful at that time and it can interfere with ceremony. The energies from her almost clash with the sacred energy of the place or ceremony. (hope that makes sense) Not saying that's the case here because I haven't looked into this location but just in case you run into this practice elsewhere.
