folks - first thing to do in the tropics ( with what has been a wet boat) is buy a humidifier. start the very long process of pulling the water out of the boat. saves on smelly stink, saves on growing your own bugs in what effectively is a glass house

Honestly the previous owners were Italian communicating with them hasn’t been the easiest so we don’t know the full story. What we do know is what is included in the video. At night a ship t-boned our Amel, the anchor of the ship that was hanging off the bow got wrapped up in the rigging of the amel and brought down the main mast, then the ship not knowing about the crash proceeded to drag the amel for a time frame between 1-5 min at which point the amel captain sent up flares and then the ship came to a stop. Untangling of the vessels occurred and the amel limped to the nearest boat yard.

Hi Guys what a great buy. You should see if you can catch up with Sailing Nandji - Frothlyfe (from Australia) they have being in that area the last couple of years and have fixed up there old boat and just purchased a new boat and fixed up. The two of them worked out how to get stuff done over there and import duty free etc. Have fun fixing her up.

I did something similar once. With a home that sat empty for 9 years. Mold, a bad a roof. Etc. I should have emptied the place of every last thing, fix the roof, and scrubbed it clean. I spend so much time bottling all the crap that was inside moving it around and trying to save it. Took me almost 2 years to do a 10-month project. I wish you better luck. I hate heat and humidity 😵 I'm so excited for you. such a wonderful vessel. Imagine the stories you'll have to tell on some beach far away. This is living!!!

Sailing Aquarius has some good tips for your Amel...how to service the bowl thruster and service the propeller shaft...their tips on tuesday cover a lot of service items on their Amel Super. You have a lot of work ahead, best crack on!!

it was enough to see Isabelle's enthusiasm to realize that there will be no problems big enough to stop you. In fact there is a lot of cleanup work to be done to figure out what needs to be repaired, before putting the boat in the water you will need to check all seepages, cracks, and drain valves, then you can put Merewether II in the water. However, you have made an incredible bargain for a boat that is an elegant villa. I was moved by Iasabelle's enthusiasms. If I were not disabled I would gladly have come to help you. Why not make 2 videos a week iprimi 3 or 4 months? Until we leave for the world. Good work Bye

Definately a stinkfest going on there lol but after getting her cleaned up you'll be able to get to work on the critical steps of getting her watertight again. Still quite concerned about her structural integrity though. The crack in the keel and rudder especially along with the hull/deck joint. Have you reached out to Amel to discuss this? Looking forward to how this project proceeds. Remember, to take it in small increments mentally so as not to get overwhelmed. Its a big project but worth tackling. Congrat on youre engagement. You are a lovely young couple.

Doug, thanks for the lovely comment. We’re working through some of the issues now and as far as I can see it’s not as bad as we first thought. The rudder is in good condition, just requires some new packing. The keel isn’t cracked I believe, there’s a seem between the keel and boat which I just need to strip back and then epoxy I think. Nassi Goreg means fried rice. Bami goreng (fried noodles) is also tasty. Try some sambal oelek (traditional Indonesian chili paste) to spice it up. Stay away from uncooked food like salads.

Hey guys. This vid caught my eye and am now a subscriber. Be cool to watch this refit. Id say they used Balsa core on the decks when it was built? If so, some advice I have that I can give in regards to any balsa core rot or trapped moisture through my experience in replacing it all on my boat is not to inject it with epoxy but rather rip the top or bottom layer of skin out and either dry the good core out completely and replace the rotten core or replace it all together before sealing it back up. I replaced mine with structural PVC foam and thermolite board to avoid any future rot problems. Fair winds 👌⛵️

Unfortunately in Indonesia you are not allowed to work on your own sailboat. That is why we have to move the vessel up to Malaysia to start the repairs properly. Also the leak is not that big and we can manage it. Thank you for your question and for watching!
