Regina is the capital city of Saskatchewan, but it's actually not the biggest city in the province. Top attractions like the Legislative Building, Wascana Park and the Royal Saskatchewan Museum can all be found there. But as someone who has lived in Saskatchewan for most of their life, I strangely haven't visited Regina that many times and it was very long ago. Join me and my Dad as we tour around the downtown party of the city and get our first impressions about how the city has changed!

SafetyWing (best for younger travelers + digital nomads): www.safetywing...
I use both of these companies depending on the destination and requirements of entry. If you are going to be abroad for a long time and/or don't need as much coverage, I would recommend SafetyWing. BUT you cannot purchase SafetyWing WHILE in Canada or USA. You can only purchase once already abroad. Hey Mondo is more expensive but offers a higher level of coverage including plans that have trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Hey Mondo would be the better insurance to use if you need travel medical insurance when applying for a visa. Both companies cover covid. I've always thought Regina is a nice city. I'm from N.D. originally, just across the border, but haved lived in San Diego, CA now for the past 25 years. I think the Fargo metro area has now surpassed Regina in population, but I think Regina seems much more like a real city. The downtown is more developed than Fargo and of course the Legislative building with Wascana Park are spectacular. Canadians are truly nice people too.

Fargo has 230,000 ish...reginas core alone is 275 and metro is about 300...but moosejaw would be included from a commuting standpoint and usong american metro standards bumping us up to 330-340. The regina REGION is probably 360. Censuses in Regina arent done the way most other cities are in Canada and the states, idk why, sp realistically 325-350 id say, but officially anout 300.

Great video! You’ve covered all the cities I’ve lived in Saskatchewan now. Interesting facts about Regina is that every tree you see, someone planted it there! Also, the lake in Wascana Park was dug out by hand during the Great Depression as a make work project, about 20 years ago it was deepened by machines. Some of the soil was used to build an island.

Regina is a wonderful and underrated city in Canada. An interesting fact is that the Queen Elizabeth statue in front of the Legislature has her name and title displayed in French on the other side of it. I haven’t visited but I’ve loved seeing the city in JJ McCullough’s, Sprouht’s and now your video of the city. Wonderful as always.

I always thought Saskatchewan had nice cities, even if they’re comparatively small to most others in Canada! I’ve lived in Saskatchewan all of my life and the beauty here is very underrated. The Royal museum is one that I’ve been to multiple times and it is great! Really recommend! For those interested, here are some places in Saskatchewan that you should definitely visit one day- 1. The Great Saskatchewan Sand Dunes. (A desert in?? In Canada??? It’s just gorgeous as it sounds. It’s not actually classified as a desert though!) 2. The Badlands. Haven’t been to them yet, but I hear it’s beautiful! It’s on my bucket list! 3. Saskatoon Exhibition (Only available during summer months.) This place is amazing for the food, the exhibits, the tradeshow, and the entertainment that they bring every year! 4. Western Development Museum It covers the time of early Saskatchewan and features a full-size replica town! Absolutely amazing, and you can get in for free if you have a student card!

I'm from Edmonton but went to the U of R for a specific program in the early 90's and I have to say it was the best time of my my life. There are no people as friendly as Sask people and I made lots of friends right away, many of whom I still have 30 + years later. I get very nostalgic when I think of those good times, it would be nice to go to the Lazy Owl for a beer and a Deadly Chedly burger.

Hi Alina and Gordon! Thanks for the lovely tour of Regina - the first capital of Canada's Northwest Territories (until 1905)! Although I lived in Saskatchewan (Saskatoon) for 3 years, I made only one visit to Regina - to a Roughriders game. The Rolling Stones played a great and memorable show in Regina in 2006, but this was after my time. Regina is a beautiful provincial capital!!!

Yes, they did! It was a huge success. It was held in Tayler field, in October. The weather was good. People came from the western provinces, bordering states. They put on 3 or 4 shows, before they pulled out. Mick Jagger really liked the place.

Welcome to Regina! 🖐 We have lived here for the last 21 years. We are both from Saskatchewan. We are very familiar with many areas of the province as my husband's career as a Conservation Officer with the Sask Dept of Environment has taken us to many different areas of this great province, each beautiful in their own way. You missed seeing Mosaic Stadium, home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police/RCMP depot/training center and museum, as Regina is the home of the RCMP, our national police force. Perhaps you need to make another visit and stay a little longer. 😊 So happy you have been able to visit with your parents on this trip back home to Canada and to have your dad with you on this road trip. I love following your posts as you travel the world. Happy travelling! 🚙🧳✈

@@AlinaMcleod --- It might be worth mentioning that former Saskatchewan Premier from 1944 - 1961 (the elected leader of the province) Tommy Douglas, who also led the moderate-Left Co-operative Commonwealth Federation Party federally from 1961 - 1971, which morphed into todays NDP Party, was voted in a widely known and popular CBC-TV National Poll some years ago as "The Greatest Canadian Ever" due to his stalwart promotion of many of the social programs that have made Canada famous world-wide, such as universal health care. I support aspects of the moderate right, left and center, and it is true that people of all political beliefs hold him in very high status. Both Saskatchewan and Manitoba Provinces are very strong in developing some of the things that make Canada famous for what it is, such as Universal Medical Care for everyone and Social Programs such as Pensions and helping people who are temporarily facing financial hardship.

I was underneath that building digging out a new basement while helping to reinforce it. Apparently tin sleeved piles built decades ago were not enough to support the 60 million lbs of granite above, it was sinking. So Dominion construction called in a company that hydraulicly puts in piles from California usually for docks. We fabricated 6" round 130 MPA reinforced concrete screw piles, cured 30 days, and that company set up plates that were grouted to the underneath of the Ledgislative building were huge hydraulic pistons were bolted to, and a massive 9000 psi pump. They pressed down those 1 meter long piles some 17- 20 meters deep using the underside of the building. That was 1st phase of the project, before digging out the lake to create an actual lake. I was underneath that left staircase for a week removing clay/soil/dirt. Afterwards, shotcreate was used to fill in voids after pouring basement concrete walls. That was my first construction project, I was 17 years old.

Really enjoyed your tour around Regina. I do remember liking Wascana park by the lake and the Royal Saskatchewan museum with great displays and history. Been quite a few years since I have been there. I have never been to Moose Jaw so looking forward to seeing your next video :)

Great video. It’s pretty cool. I also enjoy visiting Regina. Downtown Regina, I find is a lot cleaner than downtown Winnipeg!

Very good tour I been through Regina as a long haul trucker from America several times it is a beautiful, and well laid out city with a nice size downtown for a city so small.... And Alina your a very beautiful lady I like the Canadian accent.... Your dad seems to be a man of few words but when he does talks you need to listen... God bless you both.....

Hello Alina, I did not know, that the meaning of Regina is queen. I knew it as a female first name and also for a species of cherries, which is my favorite. Now I know why. Because it is the queen of the cherries! Looking forward to Your next adventures. Best Regards, Ralf

Yes most people know the name Regina for it's Deadpool reference which does make for a good chuckle but only cuz it is done by a fellow Canuck.

I have lived in Regina for last 10 years. It's a good place to live if you are not willing to spend too much on housing. It has the cheapest average house price in Canada. Only downside is the high property taxes

Does it have a night life and good job prospects? I want to move to Saskatchewan but people always say Saskatoon is more ideal.

@@kaybrown2201 both Regina and Saskatoon are good places to live. Saskatoon is bigger than Regina. There is decent night life in both cities. Can't compare it to bigger cities like Toronto or Vancouver but considering the city sizes and population, You won't be disappointed

I live very near the park in the vlog and walk or run there nearly every day. It’s a wonderful park and makes this city very pleasant to live in. You did a nice job to reflect the best sides of this city. Like most cities, Regina has its rough edges but you rightly point out that it is worth a visit for those traveling around in this country. Keep,up the good work! :)
