I know it well. Great place if you love endless grey days and endless rain.

You should check out Winter Harbour, I would suggest that it is more remote than Thsis!

Thanks for posting.... I spent about 20 years there... and been a long time since... was good to see! I hope you got to see the rest of the town... the valley and all the houses... the school! It's sad to see the Mill missing from your shots... the town is so empty... but glad to see not completely! Great to see... thanks again!

After I got home from Sudan Africa in 1986 I was hired on for sawfiling supervisor, the union went on strike so us supervisors had to take turns at fire watching over the whole plant. A small log sawmill was in the process of being built. Soon after the cedar mill was closed and all that was left the the large log mill and the new small log mill. Our entertainment was fishing and going up to the dump watching the bears. Some good old days for sure.

Same here , It brings back memories ! I used to live there on and off from 1974-1978 working at the Hemlockmill as an electrician. Moved back to Switzerland in 1987. : . Peter

@fraserca I know what you mean... I miss it too. I went back briefly in October 2009... at Halloween and I could not BELIEVE IT... the Fire Department put an incredible fireworks show... seriously one of the BEST I have seen in over 10 years... include even ones all over the Island (Victoria as well)!! There was a bonfire for the kids at the REC center... hot chocolate and hot dogs... lots of candy and even more laughter!! IT WAS SO COOL TO SEE... there is life in Tahsis still!!

So I know there are two 15 degree twisty, windy hills on the road to Tahsis. Do you remember, was there also an 18 degree hill? That's a really good video, just how I wanted to see it, just driving through Tahsis. We've been to Gold River, but my old lady didn't want us to take the road to Tahsis as I know anyone who takes that road on even a somewhat regular basis seriously needs a 4WD. Rollovers are common and there have been deaths and going over the side and whatnot. Locals are often stranded in Tahsis during portions of the winter due to the road. What's really interesting is that Zeballos is really only about 10km away, but I know people who say forget about even taking an ATV between them or even walking. Completely overgrown and swampy.
@foodquig2 жыл бұрын
@@PouchMaster I'm sorry... I was not paying attention to how steep the hills were almost thirteen years ago when I made this video, and I doubt that I would remember now even if I was paying attention then. Still, little remote towns like Tahsis and Zeballos interest me should I choose to get away from it all in my retirement. I guess it's important to stock up on everything like a survivalist in the Autumn.

I have always appreciated a more rural environment after spending all my summers growing up outside a small town, more of a village actually, in the Laurentians of Quebec. Getting older only makes me appreciate it more, and I think it would be better for my mental health to live someplace like that,..

The little house was a prop? Is it left over from the X-Files shooting, the first season or so I thought was done there in that area of Canada- the mountains are beautiful to see and the water, we used to go fishing in Canada when I was younger and we had a great time! ( Just to let you know Andy- real life got me here and I am very behind on watching videos, but I want to catch up - hope all is well with you and Cindy)- Badbearwatch

That outhouse had a lot of power lines going into it from the top. I think it was a transformer shack made to look like an outhouse, and the lines go underground from there. I'll have to look at my footage more carefully...

Hi from New Zealand, thanks so much for the video, so many memories for me. I arrived in Tahsis via the UChcuk in 1970 worked as a mechanic for the East Asiatic Company, wow has it changed since then. Was in Vancouver a month ago I should have made the effort to go back!! Will do next visit to Canada. Where is the sawmill etc? cheers Richard

I think it was more of a prop to sell the land that it was sitting on than a TV show prop. I did a bit of research, and found that the realtor who's trying to sell the land specializes in selling remote and secluded properties to people who want things very private. Those people must be just as eccentric as I am, but far richer :)

LOL The liquor store is the first thing when you come into town. I like it when you don't need to hunt around for the necessities. I mean, what else is there to do in a small town like that one? Too bad I've been mostly dry since May...

LIfe goes on and all kinds of things happen... Take your time and watch something when you're in the mood. All is going well with us and we keep getting on together better than ever before... We must be doing something right! BTW, I believe they shot the X-Files in the City of Vancouver rather than on Vancouver Island. THey shoot a lot more TV and movies here in Victoria than they do in places like Tahsis...

Am I ever dreaming... There are properties for sale in that town at very reasonable prices AND the town doesn't have a taxi. I have two four-door sedans... Am I ever dreaming now, but I'm not quite ready to leap and Cindy needs convincing even though she got excited about the little house, which incidentally is a prop. The two acre lot that it's sitting on is for sale, though...
