Yay. I can now do Geekhouse Laundry with a Magic Chef 2.6 Cubic Foot Portable Dryer. :-D
A tad out of order as far as Quick O Flicks goes, but I wanted the most recent upload to be content instead of an announcement. :-)
Link To Telletell's video on this dryer, which influenced my decision to get one for myself. :-)
• Magic chef 2.6 portabl...
...and yes I find it funny that something called "Magic Chef" is used for laundry lol. :-D

Double packaging with a secondary unmarked unlabeled outer box is a bonus for ordering from Walmart if you don't want your landlord up in your business.

Robin Luther Yes!! My landlord has a washer and dryer on sight but they suck!!! It takes 2 and a half hours just to dry and the washer doesn’t really clean anything, the washer needs cleaned or jus a whole new one. He pays water but I’m not really concerned, I need a good washer and dryer.

our common machines went up to three bucks per cycle and some of the people living in here do not know from clean up after yourself ; mgmnt thinks nothing is their job. Feh,6 loads now living with my new portable washer,don't know how I lived without it. I love my used rca 2.1 top loader,even a model from a few years ago works like a charm.

Great review! I was wondering why our breakers had to be constantly reset. we use this dryer in our 5th wheel. Got ours from a store that sells from bulk for $100. Also found Magic Chef 1.6 washer for $168 out the door because it had a minor dent on bottom. Gotta love it! My Midea 2.1 washer I ordered from Walmart was not double boxed and very damaged. Worked out fine though as I was able to return and found great deals elsewhere,

Thank you so much for explaining the issue about "amps" and not plugging into circuits with other appliances. I WAS considering but it will never work at my crappy ol 60 yr old place. I can use 1 oil heater...and 1 lamp but nothing else on most of the circuits in my house. So I can stay warm IN THE DARK without issues with the breaker. LOL!

Multimedia Jay, thank you for the clarification of the electrical component of the dryer. I had considering a purchase of this item but have changed my mind. I will not use an 1875 watt hair dryer because of the draw on Amps. I'm very appreciative of your "scientific" explanation of this dryer. Keep making videos, love your tone and humor😇😇

JB Tillman Gald I live in the U.K. where every outlet will happily supply 3kw all day long. Our circuits are 240 volts 32 amps, so 7kw plus. We don't have to worry about dedicated sockets for high draw appliances, we can plug anything in anywhere.

Great review, do you have an estimate on how many Watts are used on the 'WARM' setting vs HOT setting, which I assume is 1500 watts? I am an 'electricity' novice so I really don't intuitively understand the lingo, I just know I have 1 circuit in my apartment and want to calculate what other electronics I can use with the dryer. Also if I have just 1 circuit breaker, thats spread out to all my outlets no matter how many I have right? Each outlet doesn't have 1800 watt capacity if I understand correctly?

WOW! I did NOT know that piece about the aluminum dryer hoses. I had picked up a kit for my big guy in the garage, to be redirected from under the back of my house, and had absolutely no idea. Well, Miners will be on my to do list tomorrow. As for the beginning of your video, you got your appliance from Wallys and so did I.. however, 4 years later (2020) mine didn't come double boxed and especially late. Had nothing to do with this covid crap. Walmart in my eyes has dropped the ball quite a bit in the past 3-4 years. More than a handful of times the delivery date is one thing PRIOR to submitting payment, but it's funny how it changes right after payment is submitted. It has gone from 2-day delivery (that they advertise) however it mysteriously turns into (regularly) 1 week or more. Bait & Switch .. makes one not a happy camper. Thanks for the correct information, though. Kudos!

Use a laundry spinner, like the Panda, first to get most of the water out. It just takes a few minutes and it shortens the time you use the dryer to a very reasonable amount and you get much less condensation.

So, I've been using it for a few months now. Advantage: It dries clothes well. The biggest capacity I could load of wet things is my California King beddings (for your imagination: 2 pillowcases, fitting and regular sheets; or about 5 big terry towels; or 3 pairs of jeans, so on) Disadvantage: 1. Drying time depends on the amount of load. And of course, it takes about 1.5 hours for few big items, which is not nice. 2. Cleaning lint from the soft filter on the back is not the easy way. I have to vacuum it after each load. It is annoying. It would be better if all lint would be collected into some hard filter which easier to grab by hand like it produced in the big enterprise machines. My filter got all disheveled, and now I need to buy a new one?

I'm looking at more videos like these where I as a friendly neighborhood nerd chime in on home gadgets and other devices, as well as Tech Casual videos that are about technology but designed to help people who want to get over any technophobia they may have. :-) Thank you everyone for convincing me to make more than just tech videos. :-)

@lilacserenity
@lilacserenity 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Jay! Thanks for the review! I read mixed opinions about the vent on this thing (some say it's an indoor vent, some say it must be vented outside), but was actually under the impression that the biggest problem with indoor venting was emitted heat and humidity, which is no problem for me. Thanks to your review, I now am undoubtedly going to vent it outside! Can you please elaborate on the "all-metal duct" you mentioned though? Seems like everywhere I look all they have is the aluminum foil ducts (that is "fire resistant" and "will not support combustion"). So what should I look for, where can I get it and what exactly is the name of the one you have? Thanks a lot in advance!P.S. Also, when you were shopping for your portable dryer, did you happen upon the Haier model (HLP141E)? Seems like the Haier model and Magic Chef (this one) are pretty much the only options of portable dryers out there - what made you choose Magic Chef?

Mine included a plastic piece that hooked to the back with a right angle bend. It was shaped and sized so close to the same size as a standard rain gutter's downspout, that I used a few pieces of steel down spouting to custom build my own rigid vent. To slip the end over the 90 degree bend, I had to straighten-out the bends on the downspout with a pair of pliers, then taped it into place with stainless steel muffler tape. Very cheap, very effective.

This is the first time I understood the issue about eco and amps. The eco seems to run and after 120 minutes starts the heat. So, how much electricity does it end up using if it is still using heat for 2 more hours? Sounds like it is not a deal. I am disappointed in this thing not allowing us to just set the time, set the temperature, and let it stop when you want it to. I cannot fathrom why they did it this way.

is it OK to put a nylon sock up on air pipe, to catch all lint?
@spencerwilton5831
@spencerwilton5831 5 жыл бұрын
fantamas06 No. it will reduce the airflow, possibly causing the dryer to overheat and catch fire, although it is more likely the thermostat will simply cut out.

Is it compatible with regular (4'') vent hose?
@MultimediaJay
@MultimediaJay 8 жыл бұрын
+Derya A I think it would need an adapter. I went with semi-rigid aluminum duct though. That aluminum foil looking stuff is actually paper with metallic paint and still combustible. There's demos on KZbin showing that.

If you are venting through a window here is an idea. Mine included a plastic piece that hooked to the back with a right angle bend. It was shaped and sized so close to the same size as a standard rain gutter's downspout, that I used a few pieces of down spouting to custom build my own vent. To slip the end over the 90 degree bend, I had to straighten-out the bends on the downspout with a pair of pliers, then taped it into place with stainless steel muffler tape. Very cheap, very effective. Should you not have a window to vent through, you can get a Lint Trap Kit to hook-up to the dryer. It works like a water filter on a Rainbow vacuum cleaner.
