I want to thank you for this great video. I got off my ass and did a ladder test 2 tenths of a gr increment with the Speer Impact. .308 190gr for a 300 Win Mag 40 thousands off of lands found the sweet spot pushing it 3005 3008 3014fps. Was able to get 3 boxes loaded 4 days before my Elk hunt Once again, thank you for inspiring me to play with this bullet.

Fantastic job! I love speer bullets. I prefer the Speer over Sierra and Hornaday but thats just me. Not saying that Hornaday or Sierra doesn't have great bullets because they do I just Like the Speer better especially the GD bullets, I wish Speer would offer the GD bullets in more cal. and more weight choices for ea. cal. Keep up the great work sir. ❤🎉

Speedily bouncing around, so maybe I missed something, but aren't those velocities for 'max' a bit on the low-end for a 23" barrel. I see those same mid 2550s with my 18" and 180 gr factory loads. So I'd think upper 2600s at least, since that's what I see with my 22" with 175 gr factory. I've not used Varget, but is your max ~45 gr? The book for that shows ~2700 fps for a 175 grain. Is it something about THIS bullet and being what looks like a good 100 fps slow? Nice video & certainly acceptable groups.

I don’t remember specifically the details of this video, but I know I eventually got 2850 fps with the 172 Speer Impacts in my Savage Axis 2 Stainless using CFE 223 powder. It has a 22 inch barrel.

How was the terminal performance? Expansion? Penetration?
@afader689811 ай бұрын
Complete penetration on broadside and quartering shots, antelope, mule deer, and elk, insides jellied adequately, straight line penetration, haven't observed any deviation in wound tracks, 50 cent piece exits, deepest penetration depth so far has been 26 inches and it exited, elk, minimal bloodshot, from 50 yards to 420, 140 6.5 from 264 at 3120, the 30 cal 172 from 06 at 2850, from 300 win at 3148, the 190 at 3050 from 300 win, average 10 shots for velocity figures, 5 antelope, 4 mule deer, 2 elk so far with the impacts, they perform better than some of the other bonded out there, for the price, I'm not sure that there is better.

.284-.277 = .007 soooo why? I mean really. If you had done it with the 6.5 prc case maybe? Idk.
@Accuracy1st11 ай бұрын
Well the same can be asked why have a 270 win and a 280 rem and why do we have 6.5mm and 7mm? It’s only a half mm difference Using a 6.5PRC would be minimal difference than a 270 win also. Basically a lateral move To asnswer your question, because I want to and can. The 7PRC case is optimal in my opinion for the project I want to pursue.
@jacktrout580711 ай бұрын
@@Accuracy1st there is measurable difference between 6.5 and 7mm especially in regards to projectile wt and bc etc. .5mm and .007 mm is the difference there. If you have a specified projectile in mind that you have run data on I guess it could make sense otherwise it's pretty much just " I did the 270 prc first" kinda deal. 😉 At any rate I hope it works out f for you.
@Accuracy1st11 ай бұрын
Oh no it’s not about being first. I think it may be done already from some forums I’ve read. For me it’s something I’ve wanted before 300 PRC or 7PRC were even available. Just been waiting for the right parent case. In terms of measurable differences there’s no numbers or math that makes any difference whatsoever on game at the distances I shoot. I could part with every rifle I have and keep one 270 win but I like a variety

I ordered 10 boxes of the 190 grain from Speer, and for a while, Midway had all 3 of the impacts for $20-$30! I was a little disappointed with the jackets, as most of the bullets had indents, but it didn’t seem to matter with the accuracy. I should say, there was no visible, negative effects on the accuracy. It’s a soft bullet, more like the bondstrikes. Much softer than accubond, and way way not like a terminal ascent. If you’re shooting at distance, or low velocities, like 308 win or the 140’s in a creedmoor, you’ll really appreciate how softer they are than the accubond. I’d say the lead is maybe, 30% softer than the accubond LR?? At 860ish yards, they expanded all the way down to the boat tail. That was a custom throated 300 wsm.
