The Pelikan Style is a well made, lower cost fountain pen. In this video I discuss the good things about it, but also point out a weakness that may be unique to my specific pen.

I have one in white. Got it as a gift a couple of years ago. I have it at my desk, always with some sort of permanent black ink for signing documents. Mine is wet, but its not even close to a fraction of the wetness that you show in the video. The rubber on mine still ok after 2 or 3 years. Overall, a good inexpensive pen for work.

Good to hear your rubber is lasting. Maybe I'll be lucky with this one! And, yes, if I can make it less wet, I'd like to use it at work.

Hi from Germany. The Pelikan Style only comes in M as far as I know. It’s a typical kids school pen here in Germany. All kids learn to write with fountain pens and use them throughout elementary school. It shouldn’t be that wet or scratchy. Pelikan 4001 Königsblau is Standard erasable school ink. Sorry you got a dud.

It happens. I'm liking it a little better with a converter in it and a different ink. Still very wet, but kind of fun now on good paper.

1. That is the wettest pen I have ever seen. And I believe that 4001 is supposed to be a dry ink? 2. The looks of this guy would fit perfectly into my collection of Beginner pens for children/learners. I call it the Kiddie Aesthetic (a good thing). 3. I would love to see a video in which you work on the nib to make it LESS wet.
@WaskiSquirrel

1. Yes, 4001 is usually a dry ink! That's why I use it at school. I'm having better luck with a different ink and paper, but it still soaked through my notebook. 2. It is a nice looking pen for kids. I see this as a teenager's pen. 3. I'm considering that video. I know how to make a pen more wet, so less wet should be a challenge. Maybe useful for a couple incontinent vintage pens...

I was thinking that it's not worth giving away either and that it belongs in the bin. After reading your comment, I had to reconsider my thinking. Maybe you are the person that this pen needs to be given away to.

It looks wet to the point of being unusable. Also, low end pens, particularly older ones targeted at the European market, are not designed for use with converters so the ink window "issue" isn't really an issue.
@WaskiSquirrel
@WaskiSquirrel Ай бұрын
That's probably true about the converter. But I only own one Pelikan cartridge, and it was in the pen. But you're right, the normal user probably wouldn't use a converter.
@paulll47
@paulll47 Ай бұрын
I don't think that's true, I live in Europe and basically all pens I know that take a cartridge also take a converter (with the only exception of the one made by Bic but that is a piece of crap), I've used Lamy, Faber Castell and Pelikan pens that are 20 years old and take converters just fine.

Hi from Pahrump,NV. Interesting pen, guess it should work on the long road but thanks to your reviews, we'll see. The fact that you do use for years your pens, gives a true reliable honest reviews. Hey I emptied my wallet hehe bought Pilot Custom 823 Signature nib...my opinion so far is that for a person that doesn't sign too much, the ink capacity is too much but of course I can also not fill all the barrel. About the nib it is to me a different writing experience meaning smooth, line strockes thickness but I wish it was less broad...maybe because it's meant for signature only and dumb me wish to use it for daily writing which it is possible if I write letters A5 or B6 notbk size. Anyways, thank you, love your squirrel shirts, have an awesome day and hey, have not heard about your gardening and food yet! 🎉😊

I am doing better with this pen on Tomoe River Paper and a different ink. I'll show it during Pens in Use. Thank you for the information on the Pilot Signature nib. I've been curious about it, but not curious enough to buy it. You're right, it's a specialized nib and not really meant for daily writing. There is a gardening video coming out today. Don't expect to see much yet: it has been cold here.

I also have the problem of acid sweat that breaks down the rubber bands over time, a curse... As for flow, it is a problem inherent to this specific pen, since the 4001 series is characterized precisely by being a dry ink, such maybe the nib is somewhat open. A very Tron-like design. It's more like you're painting than writing. I like wet inks but this is ridiculous. Do you think a fine nib would be better? At this point, you're probably not willing to buy another one.

I don't think there are choices in nib size. It will be an opportunity to play with the nib. But, on a happier note, with a different ink and on Tomoe River Paper, it actually laid down a nice line!

I have two Pelikan Twists which use the same nib and feed. Both of them have average wetness and I believe your Style is simply defective, seems like an air leak. Maybe try a different cartridge/converter.

An interesting look at such a "wet noodle" of a pen. I saw a different inexpensive pen in one of Chris Saenz videos that interested me. It turned out to be a Schneider fountain pen. They make a few different models and the one I ended up getting was the Ray. It's a really nice writing pen, and wet, but not nearly as wet as that Pelikan!! Maybe you could take a look at a Schneider if you don't already have one.

Regarding the pink/purple version: Have you tried the German Amazon site? It’s readily available here. I don’t know about shipping costs from Germany to the US, but when I ordered some books from Amazon US it came free of extra charge. Maybe that works the other way around as well? And regarding the converter issue: this is one of those Pelikans that is primarily meant for schoolchildren and they almost exclusively use cartridges.
@WaskiSquirrel
@WaskiSquirrel Ай бұрын
I have ordered from other versions of Amazon, but I usually try not to because of shipping. I only make an exception if it's something I really want. I liked this color too...I just need to make it less wet.

As they say, "I don't like your Style!". The neon purple version would have a real "Tron" look, if you can remember that Sci-Fi film. I am sure your wet example of this pen is an exception and not representative of the majority. I read a few reviews of the Style on Amazon and excessive wetness didn't seem to be a popular problem. My favourite inexpensive Pelikan pen is the Stola. I would like to try the Twist but haven't done so yet.
@WaskiSquirrel
@WaskiSquirrel Ай бұрын
I do remember "Tron"! I remember being dazzled by the special effects. This has to be an exception. I have the same nib in a Pelikan Style and it's nowhere near as wet. And, yes, the Stola is a wonderful pen! I liked mine a lot, but gave it to someone who liked basic fountain pens and was thinking about upgrading.

Wow, that was really wet! Definitely not for students (imagine that in the hands of a 10 year old!😂) Still should have a place with someone. I feel ya about eating rubberized stuff. Think it's because of acidic sweat. Also makes me eat through the finest string on a guitar in about 2 weeks (when I could still play one...) Not completely through, but rusty enough to affect the tone.
