I own 6 Wood Jewel knives by now and I have to say besides the sheath issue and the asymmetrical grind I'm very happy with them. Of course all received a scandivex reprofiling. I live the steel too. The first steel I was able to give it a hair splitting edge. Thank you for yet another great video!

6 wow that's quite a collection. They are pretty good. Like I said they are very popular with the guides on the farm and they don't seem to have any problems with them. I think I can fix the sheath issue. Thanks for watching mate.

They are quite pretty and you can't go wrong with a Lauri blade. The sheath is a bit of a nucence but I am pretty sure I can fix that. Otherwise it's a really nice knife for the money. Thanks for watching mate. Hope you have a fantastic weekend.

I have several Kellam's from the Wild Finn line. The Tracker and Fang. The sheaths have the same issue. I solved it by using a whipping knot with leather shoe lace around the problem area on the sheath. 👍

The Wild Finn line I believe is made by Reino Kamppila of Ahti knives. Interesting that the sheaths have this issue as I have never heard of Ahti knives with this issue. At least it is easy to fix. Sounds that you found a great solution. Thanks for watching the video.

They don't have a particularly good resell value as there's a rather small(er) market for traditional genuine puuko and leuku, but these knives will last you for life, today everyone wants a 700$ folder (???) And or a fix blade a 1/4 an inch thick for processing the entire forest (again ???) So those crowds will pass by these knives but they truly are a gem and have been made the same way for hundreds of years, for a reason--- they work, no frills, no silly aesthetics, simple knives for those who actually use knives
@KuukkeliBushcraft Жыл бұрын
I think it's partly a cultural thing. Many people use a folder for utility tasks. To my mind a puukko is far more comfortable in the hand (expecially as there is no pocket clip). Also here it gets seriously cold in the winter. Much easier to deploy and use a belt knife with large mittens on. A puukko will also do some of the work of the quarter inch forest clearing knife 😂. In Finland there are axes to do the rest of that work. Thanks for watching
@brianlash154 Жыл бұрын
@KuukkeliBushcraft I've definitely used puuko knives for things I probably shouldn't have and they are more than worth their weight in salt, heavily recommend a look into Ahti Knives

"knives for those who actually use knives". So incredibly point on! Almost all the idiots I run into in our forests couldn't last a week without their REI tech, most of which is junk. I carry a Metsa or a Jarvenpaa Leuku if I expect to get involved in heavier work. They are both fantastic tools.
@anthonyclark9159Ай бұрын
I've owned several wood jewel knives, and most have the issue with the knife running alongside the blade guard. I just take the blade guard out and make a rectangular pancake sheath around it using a 8/9 oz veg tanned leather, and I use a brass d ring with the same thickness 30mm wide leather dangler. The knife is great, the sheath works but leaves a lot to be desired. For the price they are top.
@KuukkeliBushcraftАй бұрын
They are very good value for money. There are plenty of similar puukkos available here in Finland for a similar price that don't have the same sheath issue (maybe less elsewhere). They do tend to be a little more plane than the Wood Jewels though. I really like the knife in this video, really nice to use and the sheath issue was simple to fix. Thanks for watching.

I think that's spelt right, but what would I know, I can't even spell in English half of the time. They make very attractive knives with basically the same Laurin blades that so many knife makers use here in Finland. So you should be getting it tomorrow. If you remember me, i had the stromeng ks9 that broke. Knives of the north couldn't do anything about that knife. But they did send me a knife out of there scratch and dent section. I chose the wood jewel bear leaku. Its a very nice knife. Smaller than the ks9 of course but way better edge geometry imo

I remember,I wasn't expecting too when I read "if you remember me" 😂 I do answer a lot of comments. I generally remember about kit failing, useful information for someone who does reviews. I love the higher scandi grinds. Thanks for watching and for the comment again.

Thanks buddy, I think that the style and materials are pretty traditional. Maybe not so much as Järvenpää but the mix of reindeer antler leather and wood along with the shape of the handle is pretty common in older knives expecially from here in Lapland. This one seems to be a great little carving knife, made a spoon today with it and it did great. Shame about the sheath issue but pretty sure I can fix that.
